Shomuni [Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby mtwini09 » Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:52 am

Shomuni
Episodes: 12 + 2 Specials
Viewership ratings: 21.8
Broadcast period: 1998-Apr-15 to 1998-Jul-01
Theme song: Sugao na Mama De by Izam with Astral Love
Synopsis
Shomuni (ショムニ) is a comedic TV drama serial based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Gumi Yasuda (安田弘之 Yasuda Gumi).
The stories revolve around the Office Ladies of General Affairs department 2 (Shomu ni, or GA-2) in a large multinational company called Manpan Corporation.
GA-2 is called "the graveyard for female office ladies", simply because it is the place where female employees are dumped should they mess up big time elsewhere. Jobs include replacing used toilet rolls, changing light-bulbs, organizing company outings among other menial stuff. As an added incentive, their department is located in the nether regions of the company - in the basement, and is in fact a disused store room.

I'm proud to present the first version of Episode 1 English subtitles suited to the DVD rips found HERE:http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_116045.htm
Special Thanks to Avallac'h for the DVD raws.
Notes: This is a transcript of the Jem release, timing and translation may not be perfect. Apologies in advance.
These ass files use the font "Narkism". It should be pre-installed on Windows systems.

Many thanks. Will you be adding the other episodes? Incidentally, my preference would always be for .srt but I can convert these anyway so thanks again.

Thank you for pointing it out, sometimes a few lines can go unnoticed so it is helpful and better for everyone if people can point them out. Episode 7 is now available.

Thanks for these, guys.

Just a question. Jem subbs had several issues like missing lines and names transcriptions (I guess they wrote the names reading the script and didn't actually listen the phonetics). Have those issues been corrected?

Just asking, not wanting to really be a pain in the ass xD

The names have been corrected and most missing lines have been filled in. There is still the possibility of error though as they are transcripts.

When I timing ep12, I noticed the Spell Checker plug-in was turn off.
Ep11 has dozen of miss-spelling. I'm sorry about that

Here is the fixed version of ep.11 and last one (ep. 12)

1st Series complete. Enjoy.

Absolutely magnificent work. Thank you so much.
I wonder if there's any chance of subs for the first and third specials, and for the other two series. Am I being greedy? Perhaps. Am I being overly optimistic? Maybe. Am I very happy that we have the first season in superb quality with English subs? Yes, I'm delighted.
Thank you once again.

Sure. I plan continue transcribing, so second series is a good option. I have old Jem videos, and start to download HQ ones.

Malkie wrote:I wonder if there's any chance of subs for the first and third specials,

I don't know any hard subs version for SP1 & SP3. And I only transcribing hard-subs. My japanese (an english) is not so good to translate from non-native-language to non-native-language :lol

I've had a stab at completing the first episode of the second series earlier today, but only as an .srt. I discovered that I started that one a couple of years ago and had forgotten about it. My timings are a little out but I think that it's probably quite close to being good enough to share, with a little polish and some more attention. Maybe you'd like to start on the 2nd episode before that one, or maybe I could send the first episode on to you to double-check timings and convert to .ass. What do you think?

For me it's OK. Make no sense transcribe first ep twice so I start with 2nd episode. I think the best option is you send me the .srt file, because every time one episode is uploaded, first post must be edit and only owner/moderator/admin will be able to do. And this remember me..
Thank's Keiko1981 for add episodes to the first post. :-)

But Malkie, not hurry. I won't be able to download 2nd series raws until this weekend.

Great! I've completed the transcription, have separated some two-character shared lines into more distinct individual speech where possible, and have retimed about 33% of the subs, so it may take another couple of days to complete. I'm actually working with an .ass file now. You may need to install the common font we're using as my system appears not to have it.

If you send me a PM with your email address, I'll send the file on to you via email when it's done.

All the best,
Malc
