K-movies discussion
Just a quick question to the people who like Bin-Jip (aka 3-iron).
What's so good about it? I don't understand. Now, I'll be first to admit I'm not the artsy type so I probably didn't get it, but normally I'm very open minded and try to see what others appreciate where I cannot. With 3-iron however, I just couldn't find a single redeeming feature about it. Am I missing something here? Does it have something to do with telling a story without speech? Even so, what's so good about that? Silent movies have been around for ages.

Project Makeover aka Go Go Sister
Don't ya hate it how Korean movie posters are almost always so misleading? When I looked at the poster for this movie I immediately thought it would be some goofball comedy with a LOT of slapstick humor, but it wasn't the case at all.
Project Makeover is one of the better Korean romcoms I've seen in a while despite having a very mediocre time-travel based storyline. The cast is great, with the two scream queens Ko So-Young (APT), and Jo An (Muoi: Legend of a Portrait), who are both very, very beautiful and competent actresses. K-drama fans will also be familiar with Yoo Gun (Hello God!) and Lee Beom-Soo (Surgeon Bong Dal Hee) in supporting roles.
There are plenty of funny moments in the movie without being LOL funny, but the jokes are tastefully done (yes, dont let the poster fool you), unlike many other k-romcoms. But most important of all, it manages to connect with with viewer emotionally which is what sets it apart from the rest. I think the younger female audience would love this movie, and if you don't, I can offer a refund

it was released some years ago now but my favourite korean comedy so far would be "The Foul King" by Kim Ji-Woon. absolutely thrilling. i really enjoyed "Arahan" by Ryoo Seung-Wan too. those two are not really focused on romance but have some through. also, the korean movie version of "My Boss My Hero" by Yoon Je-Kyun is quite good too, maybe not as great as the two previous i mentioned but good enough.
from the movies already mentioned in that thread, i saw some that i actually enjoyed despite their flaws like "please teach me english", "beast and the beauty", "too beautiful to lie", and like everyone "my sassy girl" but i really think some are totally lame :
"my little bride" (wicked script and what with that forced ending ???)
"he was cool" (the worst... i could not understand why the characters are in love)
"she's on duty" (dumb & boring)
"100 days with Mr arrogant" (all is well that ends well dumb ending and zero alchemy between the characters
also, despite its good reviews, i didn't get into "my scary girl" too.

Funny k-movies I recommend are:
1. She's On Duty - when I found out the Kim Sam-soon chick was gonna be in it, you just knew it was gonna be funny - and I was right!
2. 200lbs. beauty - this movie was done rather well.. it's pretty obvious they were marketing it internationally judging by the quality of the production
3. My Wife is a Gangster 1 & 2
4. Two Guys (omg, the bathroom scene in the beginning was f-hilarious!)
Somewhat funny k-movies to try when u have time:
1. 100 Days with Mr. Arrogant
2. Marrying the Mafia 1 & 2
3. S-Diary
A movie I don't recommend in this genre is:
1. Spy Girl - it's awkward, not funny; movements, lines, dialogue... none of them flow smoothly.
I'm probably gonna get a lot of flack for this, but, I only saw half of My Sassy Girl and I could not stand that girl. I mean, yeah, maybe there are some guys out there who think it's cute and flirty when the girls they like get physically abusive on them, but she went overboard

Favorite Korean Horror
I noticed that most of the threads for Kmovies had very little if any mention of horror flicks. I think that's just horrible considering I think Korean horror flicks are the best. Heres a few of my favorites, It'll be great if ppl list their favs too and please only add it if you watched the whole movie. ^.^
Bushinsaba
Gawi
Whispering Corridor
Whispering Corridor2: Memento Mori
Whispering Corridor3: Wishing Stairs
Whispering Corrido4r: Voice
The Red shoes
Muoi
Into the mirror
Arang
The Host
Death Bell
While I love all of them the ones that stand out for me are Gawi, Bushinsaba and the whole Whispering Corridor series. Btw the order of the Whispering Corridor movies are out of order I believe. ><

I think I have seen every single Korean horror produced since 2000 and have generally enjoyed them all, even some of the so-called "bad" ones like Cello, Apartment, To Sir With Love. Sometimes I wonder why such films get bad reviews and I guess a lot of them are very derivative but they all have a very creepy atmosphere and are beautifully shot.
My two favorites are ATOTS and Phone but both of them are a bit old now and the recent ones have been a bit disappointing (but still watchable). I'm sure K-Horror will be back with a vengeance (hopefully not the long-haired type), to give us more scares. You might have heard about the fifth installment of Whispering Corridors? That will definitely be one to watch out for....I think it will be out some time 2009.

Saw and will love for the rest of my life:
1. Joint Security Area
Has my two favorites Song Kang-Ho and Lee Byung-Hyun. Best movie about friendship, ever. Major bromance!
2. The Good, the Bad & the Weird
Has my two favorites Song Kang-Ho and Lee Byung-Hyun, and an extra! Hot and cool Jung Woo-Sung. LBH was also the badassest badass ever.
3. Antique
Visually amazing. Great chemistry within the cast. Didn't hurt that the cast was also very pretty.
4. The Host
Has my favorite Song Kang-Ho. Do I need to say more?
5. I'm a Cyborg, but that's ok
Weird, funny and touching.
6. Welcome to Dongmakgol
Touching movie about friendship during the Korean War.
7. 3-Iron
Saw and liked:
8. Innocent Steps
Dancing and falling in love. Moon Geun-Young was adorable and the dancing very convincing.
9. A Frozen Flower *warning: contains serious explicit material*
Went a little (read: a lot) over the top with all the sex scenes, but still, it was one of the rare movies that were actually able to convey something with a sex scene. I found that one particular scene very touching.
10. Memories of Murder
Slow paced. Has Song Kang-Ho in it.
11. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
Saw but didn't especially care for:
12. Shiri
Packed to the max with action, but no content. Has Song Kang-Ho. Couldn't save this disaster, tho.
13. Show Must Go On
Has Song Kang-Ho in it. He's good, the movie isn't.
I'm sure there's more, but just can't think of any right now. I didn't really list just my favorites, tho...

It is not comedy though. One of my top 5 of Korean Movies. Has witty lines, but it is not that kind of humor you fall from your chair (or whatever you sit on during the movie) with laughter.kazu123 wrote:Try "Welcome to Dongmakgol" , so funny
Try Attack the Gas station, Save the Green Planet, My Girlfriend is an Agent.

#1 is that my fiancé is Korean and since she speaks English I thought I should at least try to learn Korean. She knows 4 other languages and I barely know English as it is!Ethlenn wrote:And what's the first one, keke ?
Try opensubtitles.org or mysubtitles, eventually go to avistaz (asian torrents) and download movie torrent excluding movie. I had so much fun watching this movie!
Comedy (black) is also Choyonghan kajok (The Quiet Family).
And if her parents sez something about moi I will at least have an idea. SHHH!!!!! Don't tell!
Of course there is the standard/substandard otaku level Japanese and New York City Spanish.
What is the quiet family about?
The Quiet Family:
A family decides to buy a lodge in a remote hiking area. Their first customer commits suicide and the distraught family buries his body to avoid the bad publicity. But their luck gets worse, the bodies start piling up, and the family becomes frantic to rectify the situation.
(imdb)
I had great time watching this
Good luck to you and your fiance

That is exactly the plot from the Japanese movie "The Happiness of The Katakuri Family" or カタクリ家の幸福. Must be good.Ethlenn wrote:The Quiet Family:
