Love Story In Harvard (SBS, 2004/5)
Love Story In Harvard (SBS, 2004/5)
I've only watched the first ep. Altogether not very impressive but promising. I still don't know what the heck is going on with Kim Tae Hui's character, who, by the way, is looking gorgeous in this show/episode. (I previously didn't think much of her appearance...)
I might wonder what the use is in setting up this thread on a board where most haven't seen the show, but I suppose I'm bored.

Apart from being about a romance involving two (three or four) law students at Harvard, I'm not sure about it myself since I don't read ahead or anything.

Yeah, the English is atrocious.sweetie wrote:saw the first ep..their english is quite bad, lol...
Kim Tae Hui's English is not that bad, though. She actually sounds East European or faintly Russian when she speaks. Whereas Kim Rae Won's is not easy to understand. But worst of all is that other guy. I actually have to read the Korean subs to understand what he's saying. There is another character, I think the girl who plays the Harvard Business student, who is obviously fluent in English.
Overall, not a bad show. Kind of dry but it's interesting enough for a straight-forward romance type series.
my bad...meant the actors..KTH's english i understood but really had trouble understanding what KRW was saying...i hope people start subbing this series either with english or chinese subs, YYCAF is subbing I'm sorry, I love you with chinese subtitles..i hope they start on Love Story in Harvard!zdoon wrote:

Hi
So far I had watch the first episode. It's very good , even thought without English Sub. I like both main cast. They look cute together . I thought their English speaking skill wasn't that bad. I could understand it, I would give them credit for it, at least they try it . I look forward to up coming episodes.
@ Zdoon, thanks for upload this great drama

@ Zdoon, thanks for upload this great drama
so, i have finally joined the bandwagon and watched the first 2 eps.
thanks for the upldoads!
guessing around the plots and characters buliding, i sense the first two eps
are about profiling the main leads. KRW who i guess got the top billing
for this drama is yet to be discovered. he doesn't seem to have or hasn't
offered anything exciting yet in terms of good virtues which usually is quite
obvious in many kdramas. then we have the omnipresent KTH who seems
to do everything good, never had a chance to study and yet always super
excellent in her med rounds...
the other guy alex huang (?) who is super ambitious and the rich girl with
her excellent english seems to have an interest in each other albeit in a
rather calculating way.
am just guessing though...
i'm not sure what is KTH relationship with the rich man...david something,
the one who had an heart attack in the party. how come she stood next
to him at the balcony during toasting?
zdoon, are you talking about erich segal's love story?

Yeah, I guess. The one with Mancini music in it, made into a movie in 1970.IncaStar wrote:zdoon, are you talking about erich segal's love story?

KTH is with the guy in the balcony cause he has a heart condition and she's kinda there like an escort to monitor his health. Although, I don't know why she would be attending his party or whether she does it often.
I do admit though, that seeing all those people wearing Harvard shirts and the stickers on the laptops gets kinda obvious that they are trying to hide the fact that it wasn't shot at Harvard. I know at my school, I don't see everyone wearing UVa shirts.

just released episode 1 with subs. I'm not Korean but I found his translations to be very entertaining. I'm not allowed to bittorrent the file, so if you want episode 1 with subs, you'll have to get it using clubbox which is 10x faster than bittorrent anyways..

since everyone's raving about it, caught a new episode of it on tv now. Horrendous English and Harvard memorabilia (I think they really pushed that to cover up the fact its filmed in sunny warm USC) aside, the story is developing nicely.
Actually, did you know they had to rewrite the script because of the actors lack of English skills? Even Kim Tae Hee was criticized for bad English acting (I thought she was pretty good!). They wanted to focus more on the student life aspect in Harvard.
Engrish Good.
Possible Spoiler?

How come no one is talking about Jung Sol Hee's Timberlake/Jackson-esque "wardrobe malfunction"?? Not a breast... but where the light don't shine man!Dunno if how this spoiler thing works. Anyway, the main chars come home 3 eps earlier than planned. Can't wait! Their freaken sweater vests, English, and the lame professor is killing me!

That was anticlimatic. I've only watched up to two episodes so far, but I suppose I'll keep an "eye" out for that scene when I get to the corresponding episode (presuming I haven't already passed it). You suppose it was deliberate?

Touya, where do you get the ratings? I've tried looking for ratings but so far haven't been able to.
IMO, I'm Sorry, I Love You is much better drama than Love Story in Harvard.
Thank you for releasing this.
I've watched the first episode so far and its interesting... I was born in Canada and I was amazed at how horrible their english sounds, I haven't heard such terrible english not even on tvb dramas, but I had lots of fun trying to understand what they're trying to say, in the beginning i thought KRW's english was bad, but when the other guy came out, his english is even worst... but I must say, they both look really good in this drama... also, the white guy "John" I thought he was pretty cute too...

hahahaha let me add on to the english bashing of this drama. I cringe at the sound of every english word they try so hard to pronounce. it's like taking your fingernails and running it across the blackboard. jeez...they just do not take into consideration of the viewers outside korea. Have some sympathy for the US audience !! pls !!!
hahahahaha.. the english accent is somewhat annoying but it's barable. Note that I had several TAs and teachers with a strong asian accent (they are chinese not korean) so i somewhat got used to it. At least we have to give them credits to TRY!
I liked this drama... Kim Tae Hee REALLY mesmerized me.. she'S SOOOO pretty! She reminds me of one of my friends. CAn'T wait for ep2 (translated). Great job Touya!!!!
Btw, didn't anybody noticed that Thomas Moore's name was mispelled?

although their English is pretty terrible, I think they're doing a fine job [although, they could have used a couple of those accent courses for improvement wouldn't be too hard, would it?]
because, if i was to film a movie or a show in Korea where I have to speak Korean, i doubt i can do the job any better than the way they speak English.
mak2k, i have professors as well as TAs that speak English with their Native accents at my University, too. i've learned to listen well and try not to spend my time talking on AIM on my laptop while class is in session. and if worst comes to worst, bring a tape recorder with me and i guess replay the tape over and over again til i understand. but thankfully, that hasn't happened yet.
habukie, excellent point there!!! i was wondering the same thing....unless they were just learning "law" in general as in how to become a lawyer and how to do public speaking and not any specific law in general. but then...4 years...i'm sure KRW should have been taught Korean laws in that time....
lunatuna, saw the articles.......now i wish i knew how to read korean.... and thanks for the lovely wallpaper....i'd just set it as my desktop background

Aside from the horrible accents, especially that Hung guy, he sounded like rolling the words in his mouth, looked like he's reading the script behind the camera(even KRW)
--awful acting, but still funny
-wat really icked me were the caucasian extras....why cant they find better actors dammit...sitcom-level acting...feel like gagging everytime one of them say his/her lines
-it's really funny how u can see the HARVARD label everywhere
I seldom see international students wearing Univ. labeled clothings....but it's Law school in Harvard...who wouldn't
-wat I dont really get on kdramas which have these supposedly fluent-in-english characters..(eg, under their description, either stayed in US half of their lives or they're from "2nd generation family") tell us a different story when they start to speak....
It's still entertaining but the anticipation of hearing each korean actor speak the english language (from decent to dreadful) somehow seized the limelight from the building plot...
maybe, ill get used to it as I watched more episodes...

They've all got what I like to call "English teacher syndrome" - All speak far too clearly and enunciate everything I taught in Chian for awhile, and after a class of beginners my colleagues and I went for a drink, only to realize we were still speaking like that! I swear, it's like they're giving a lessonjaycee05 wrote: -wat really icked me were the caucasian extras....why cant they find better actors dammit...sitcom-level acting......
I won't even comment on the English - but hey, they're actors, not Harvard law students and that's obvious.
That said I think the story is interesting so far... waiting for it to pick up a bit.

I quit this drama in the middle of ep. 3. It's getting too idiotic. I swear I've seen this same exact drama before, except this time it's taking place in Harvard rather than some place in Korea. If I didn't know any better, I would have guess it was some Harvard recruitment program rather than a drama. Can't believe I wasted over 2 hours on this piece of sh@#
BTW, since when have palm trees grown in Harvard?

I agree Hong has the wierst accent.. he'S supposed to have immigrated to the US when he was young so his accent should be better.. but hey, they are actors, i give them props for the effort! It must be hard for them to learn english line and not know what they are saying is right or not

did anyone notice the parts in episode one that just seemed--really racist. Like the part where the girl is going to the hotel and talking to the receptonist, and she goes, "I'm looking for someone--" "Asian!" oh, of course! *rolls eyes*
and how at the party that old guy was talking, "All you Asians are majoring in medicine or law." >.< and when (sorry I'm so bad with names ^^;; ) Kim Rae Won's roomate, and fellow Korean told Kim Rae Won, something like, you better watch out, if you're Asian, you better expect to pull your weight around here. o.O;
I'm wondering if whoever wrote this actually thinks Americans are that racist? or..oblivious, or what. I just thought it was kind of awkward. ^^;
and the English "actors" are terrible! where did they find these people ? >.<

But it's funny how everyone is wearing a cap or sweatshirt with Harvard logo on it, and they all are brand new, just like it just got out of the store
But at least they show some real Boston scenes
Anyone notice how in this show all the asians are Korean? Surely, many of the asians that go to Harvard are not Korean. I'm only on ep 3 so I don't know if this changes at all, but I thought I'd make the observation anyway. Almost as though placing another asian of a different country in an American setting would be psychologically confusing or something.

in Harvard.?
Well I enjoyed all these postings and mostly agree with the sentiments. I really hope that the writers did not follow the story of that old US film with Ryan whatsit etc. 'Love Story'?? It was so bad. I only saw bits and pieces that gave me indigestion. And that ridiculous tag line (Love means never having to say you're sorry) ???What does that mean exactly.
I am afraid that my original hopes for this drama will not be fulfilled as it seems that there is little hope for love to be fulfilled in Harvard. Sigh.....

i believe that americans are racist! if they don't say to your face or do anything it's always out there... =( ... and sometimes teachers behave in a racist way towards asian students too... well... i've seen it happen....not as harsh as what the professor did in Love Story in Harvard... but yea... maybe the writers are just trying to depict what challenges the characters might face in a different environment away from home...hmm...nukegara wrote:did anyone notice the parts in episode one that just seemed--really racist. it's turning into a tolerable show ...more intense...
moving into more serious topics...
maybe, i reached the point where I'm immune with their dreadful accents....although, Hong still irritates the heck out of me....
but the conflicts and even the medical/court-stuffs are duplicated issues found in hollywood shows...straightforward, no surprises....sometimes fun, but still ordinary...
and i think KTH and KRW are well suited together...she fits him perfectly

and i think KTH and KRW are well suited together...she fits him perfectly
I've seen up to episode 6 of this. I think it's a cute show, love aspect wise. A little obvious and predictable, but then again, I think I've just been watching too much. The english, I agree, is pretty bad.
The Business chick actually grew up in the states which is why her english is really good. Rather, you might notice her Korean is a bit lacking. Not so horrendous as the other actors' english, but there's a slight unnaturalness in her when she speaks Korean. Maybe it's just me. Also ... I think she did some surgery to her chin. It looks weird.
I think the law aspect to the show is a bit laughable. Besides that I can't at ALL understand about 25% of what they're saying when they talk about the 'raw' (the other 75% I must put an effort into understanding), it's about the rather silliest thing ever. **spoilers**
Like when, in episode 6, the dude saved the chick with the 'Good Samaritan law?' Oh come on, what idiot doesn't know it? I learned about it in middle school, and there, everyone in the room went OMG THATS AMAZING!!! And I just went >.>;;
Funny thing is, my mom says she can understand almost all of the english. She laughs when I can't understand their english - and by the time I try to read the Korean subs, they're already gone! Bah. She says she fins it amusing that I can't understand and that she can; she says it's probably cuz I'm 'English' and she's 'Korean' when it comes to languages. xD;;

Love Story In Harvard
I think the series is really great so far.
I have only seen episodes 1-3 and since I cannot understand Korean, I am relying on the English sub titles. Even though most of the comments are on the Korean actors, I believe the "American" actors are far worse. Rudy cannot act and there is no way the black guy worked at Wallstreet. I am proud of how well the Korean actors are speaking, especially since this isn't their native language. I hope someone continues to add subtitles to the series because I love Kim Rae Won.
There isn't enough English for me to understand everything thats going on, but its a fun story to watch and I can't wait to see what happens. Please add more subtitles!!! I can help translate the English
Thanks to everyone who has been seeding

just released episode 1 with subs. I'm not Korean but I found his translations to be very entertaining. I'm not allowed to bittorrent the file, so if you want episode 1 with subs, you'll have to get it using clubbox which is 10x faster than bittorrent anyways..
http://clubbox.co.kr/kdrama to download it.
Instruction on how to use it. http://blueworldkorea.com/kdrama/instruction.htm

Just finished the series. I thought it was alright in the beginning, but it loses a ton of its fun spirit after episode 6. The events that follow are really underwhelming, in my opinion.
I thought the storyline, along with some of the acting, was pretty weak. The main characters become increasingly annoying and the theme song is absolutely cringe-worthy. The only person I ended up liking was Hong Jung-Min, even though he initially seems like a bastard. Soo In's father and Hyun-Woo's assistant are cool too.
Overall, I just didn't care for it, but maybe some of you will disagree.

lucky you, those who can't read korean will have a hard time understanding what they're saying. i think it was full house that still subbed min-hyuk's english lines in english. and his i think he was pretty good speaking in english! i hope other dramas had subtitle for the english lines also, esp those that are barely hard to understand.zdoon wrote:Yeah, the English is atrocious.sweetie wrote:saw the first ep..their english is quite bad, lol...
