When I do choose AvisSynth_Script_File for the Source AVS File it tells me
Avissynth open failure:
AvisSource: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourccxvid

Did I do something wrong?
This is in the FAQ at the end of the tutorial. You can see which codec you need when you load the AVI into SimpleAvis2Dvd. It looks like you need the xvid codec. You can download it here http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml. Let me know if you have any other problems.

Q: I get this when i try to preview my video in dvd2svcd "couldn't locate a decompresor fourcc". How do I fix this?
A: You probably don't have the correct codec. Check to see if you can play the video in Windows Media Player and/or load it into GSpot to make sure you have the codec.

Hello kyuuketsuki,

Thanks for making such a great tutorial and providing support for it. I've been browsing d-addicts for a while but decided to register and post in part because of your tutorial. A few suggestions about the tutorial:

1) I think you should list the required software and one-time setup at the beginning of the tutorial. It seems to be clearer and more logical this way.

2) I think you should include the Xvid and DivX codecs as part of the required software programs since most AVIs use these two codecs. As you probably know, it is perfectly possible to watch AVIs files using VLC player or another player without having any codecs installed. However, in order for your tutorial to work, these 2 codecs are required in most cases. I know you dealt with this in the FAQs, but they should be listed as part of the required software. I was having the same problem as vi3tgirl (no decompressor found) but I figured out that I did not have the Xvid codec installed. After installing the codec, everything works fine.

I think it's great that you even include the optional steps for making a simple DVD menu using Paint and DVDAuthorGUI.

Now I also have a few questions:

1) You said it takes your 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 system about 3-4 hours per video, but for me, on a Pentium 4 2.4GHz, it takes about 6-7 hours per 1-hour video using TMPGEnc Plus v2.524.63.181 (video card is Geforce FX 5200 AGP 128 MB). My system is free of viruses, spyware and unnecessary programs running in the background. So are you using a dual-core system? Or is there something else that I do not know about?

2) The conversion from AVI to DVD works great, but I'm wondering why in the dvd2svcd_log it says "AVI to SVCD Conversion" and not "AVI to DVD conversion," even though I check the right box according to your tutorial.

Thanks for the feedback. The reason I did not put the one time setup at the beginning is because I think people may come back to the tutorial later on and once they have the setup done, they don't ever want to look at it again. I'm not against changing it though because I can see your point. If you feel strongly about it, I will move it to the front.

I will add these codecs in the setup as "recommended".

It was a while ago that I timed this. I have since upgraded my computer. But, I believe at the time I had been converting 45 minute AVIs using 4 pass CCE. The computer I had used is not connected to the internet, so I have no firewall, and turn off the virus scanner. I also set "highest process priority" on the dvd2svcd misc tab. Your video card doesn't matter. Other things that could make a difference are the speed and size of your RAM, if your harddrive is fragmented, speed of your hard drive, and how much hard drive space you have available. One thing that you should check is your TmpgEnc settings and make sure you are using MMX, MMX2, SSE, and SSE2. Besides that, TmpgEnc on the highest quality setting is slower than 4 pass CCE.

It should say "AVI to DVD conversion", then below that "AVI2DVD". I think this is just left over from Dvd2Svcd. It is an old program that started out converting to SVCD so they probably never got around to fixing that. It will not cause any problems.

I encoded fine but I cannot get the DVD Author to make a correct image. I got it to make an image of 3 episodes but there is more room on the DVD so I am trying to get an image of 4 episodes and when I try to author it, it gets this error:

kyuuketsuki,

Thank you for your reply. I will try some of the things you mention to see if I can increase the encoding speed the next time I do this. Thanks also for taking my suggestions regarding the tutorial.

neogaia,

The error you encounter has to do with DVDAuthorGUI. It looks like you're using a very old version. Uninstall this old version and download the latest version of DVDAuthorGUI here: http://download.videohelp.com/liquid217 ... p=download.

Hey yeah I sent an email to the person who makes it and they told me to:
Make sure the 'first play' option under nav commands is set to <default>

and that I should probably upgrade my version. I did both things and now it works great.

Thank you so much for this tutorial and the program! Its amazing quality and now I can backup the many GBs of videos on my computer to real DVD videos. This little program is priceless!
neogaia wrote:I encoded fine but I cannot get the DVD Author to make a correct image. I got it to make an image of 3 episodes but there is more room on the DVD so I am trying to get an image of 4 episodes and when I try to author it, it gets this error:

kyuuketsuki wrote: It was a while ago that I timed this.
I've gone back to check all the things you mentioned above. My dvd2svcd misc tab is also set to "high," which is the highest possible. I also check all MMX, etc. settings in TMPGEnc and they are all checked by default. I have 512 MB RAM and plenty of free hard drive space and the hard drive is not very defragmented. Anyway, I went ahead and made a couple of changes: I defragment the hard drive and in TMPGEnc I set the Task Priority under Option to "When active - High priority." Then I did a new AVI to DVD conversion but the time is only reduced by about 30 minutes per 1-hour video and it is no longer possible to use the computer while TMPGEnc is running (TMPGEnc basically hogs all the system resources when Task Priority is set to High).

Then I tried again with Cinema Craft Encoder SP 2.5 and it is signigicantly faster. Instead of 6-7 hours per 1-hour video, it now takes about 3 hours. However, CCE hogs all the resources and the computer is not usable while it is running. Like you said, CCE is not as flexible as TMPGEnc.

There is another minor problem that I forgot to mention last time. The picture screen of the DVD video is slightly stretched vertically in comparison to the original AVI. This happened with both encoders. It is most noticeable because the faces of the actors looked slightly more elongated in the DVD video than in the original AVI. Is there anyway to fix this? What settings can I change and in which programs? Can you incorporate this fix into your batch file?

Unfortunately, to get the highest performance, you will basically need to have the task priority set to high and not use the computer for anything else. I try to run most of my conversions over night when I am sleeping, or when I am at work during the day. I understand though that most people probably have their computer in their room so they don't have this option. I don't think that there is much more that you can do that you have not already done.

The stretching of the images is actually a "feature" that is implemented in SimpleAvis2Dvd. The problem is that AVIs are not the same resolution as DVDs. So if you take a typical AVI of 640 x 480 and transform it to a 720 x 480 DVD we are stretching the image. Things become more complicated with overscan because we want to make sure there is a border around the edges. In the end a 640 x 480 image is resized to 656 x 448. This is not bad, and for the most part we can't even tell. It becomes a problem however when there a video with a resolution like 200 x 100. The image has to be stretched to fit 720 x 480 and has a completely different aspect ratio. The choice is either to stretch it, or have huge black borders around the image. I did enough tests and decided it was best to stretch it and provide an option to add borders.

If you have a strange resolution, you can go into your SimpleAvis2Dvd setup, and can "Add Additional Border Blocks". Each block will add 8 black pixels to the width. To check to see what your image will look like, open up the AVI in DVD2SVCD and click "Misc / Go / Preview Video". If you modify the Frameserver parameters you can see how many blocks you will need to add.

Thank you for your explanation. My AVIs all have 640 x 352 resolution. When I use your batch program and does not change any settings, the resulting Avisynth Script File has the following parameters:

0=LanczosResize(656,352,0,0,640,352)
1=AddBorders(32,64,32,64)

Are these parameters correct according to your automated program? Like I said, the DVD video looks slightly stretched, but it's a minor problem and not everyone will notice it. I then changed the above parameters to various proper settings and test with a 30-second AVI clip but the picture still look slightly stretched. Can you suggest the correct parameters so that the picture does not look stretched?

About aspect ratio, I read on another website that video resolution does not necessarily correspond to aspect ratio. Here's the explanation:

"Most computer graphics modes (and, consequently, most computer graphics files) assume that pixels are perfect squares. In that situation, an image's aspect ratio can be inferred directly from its dimensions in pixels (ex., an image with 300x300 pixels will be square, whereas an image with 400x300 pixels will have an aspect ratio of 4:3). But most video formats do not use square pixels; they use rectangular pixels. Normal (4:3) video uses pixels that are almost (but not quite) square, whereas widescreen (16:9) video uses pixels that are much wider than they are tall. So the difference between 4:3 and 16:9 video images is not the number of pixels, but rather the pixels' aspect ratio."
from http://dvd-hq.info/FAQ.html

Is this correct and do you take this into account in your batch program?

This is correct what is said. There are several different things going on here, though and we don't want to get them mixed up. First, there are computer monitors and computer image files. These are image files like JPGs meant to be displayed on computer screens. Computer screens are square 1:1 pixels. Our source is stored as square pixels and our destination is square pixels so this is not a problem. Next, there are video files and TVs. If we record from NTSC to AVI, we have 4:3 pixels. When we display this on the TV with DVD, it is still 4:3 and the pixels are still rectangular. So let's assume that our AVIs are NTSC and our TVs are NTSC and this is not a problem.

Here is where the real problem lies. NTSC DVDs are 720 pixels wide. Your AVI is 640 pixels wide. What do we do about the 80 extra pixels?
There are 3 choices.
1. We can keep the image exactly the same and put a big black border around the image.
2. Stretch the image so there are no borders at all.
3. Stretch the image slightly and put some borders there.

SimpleAvis2Dvd does #3. It tries to keep the aspect ratio the same and fix the overscan problem. It does this by stretching the image and adding small borders that usually are not noticeable. It also does things in 8 pixel steps for speed optimizations.

Now to your issue. It seems like you would like to do option #1. So we want to make sure our input and output sizes are both 640.

This would be:
0=LanczosResize(640,352,0,0,640,352)
1=AddBorders(40,64,40,64)

Put these numbers into Dvd2Svcd and the preview your video and it should look the way you want. We went from width 656 to 640. 656 - 640 = 16 = 2 additional border blocks. Go into the SimpleAvis2Dvd setup and put in 2 for additional border blocks. Run your test avi and check the SimpleAvis2Dvd log file. If you don't get the correct resize that you expect, then send me the test avi, but I expect it to work fine.

I did according to your instructions using the 30-second AVI clip, but when I check the SimpleAvis2Dvd log, the parameters are not what I input. They are instead:

0=LanczosResize(640,336,0,0,640,352)
1=AddBorders(40,72,40,72)

It appears that SimpleAvis2DVD override the manual setting that I input in the Frameserver tab in DVD2SVCD. I went ahead and run DVDAuthorGUI and made a DVD from the resulting MPG file. When I watch this DVD on my TV, it doesn't look stretched, but the screen size is now a slight trapezoid rather than a regular rectangle.

So I tried the conversion again. This time instead of using 2 additional border blocks, I only put 1 in the box in SimpleAvis2Dvd. Now the resulting log shows this:

0=LanczosResize(648,352,0,0,640,352)
1=AddBorders(36,64,36,64)

Again I made the DVD (using a DVD+RW of course) and watch it on my TV. This time, it's nearly perfect: no stretch, but I can still see a faint border from the middle up to the top of the screen, meaning it's still a trapezoid (but it's not too noticeable).

For the third time, I input
0=LanczosResize(640,352,0,0,640,352)
1=AddBorders(40,64,40,64)
into DVD2SVCD but instead of running SimpleAvis2Dvd, I load the AVI into DVD2SVCD and run DVD2SVCD directly. This time, the log file shows exactly what I input. However, when I watch the DVD I made from this method, the screen is again a trapezoid (same as if I had use 2 additional border blocks), but there is no stretch.

So in the end, I think I'll stick with your automated SimpleAvis2Dvd (no additional border blocks), even if the screen is slightly stretched. Thank you for being so patient with me.

You need to install the Visual Basic activeX files.

Reinstall the DvdAuthorGui, and select 'full install'

Hi, I was just wondering if you might help me out with VirtualDub. I have a problem with the audio in VirtualDub. I put it in 'Full proccessing mode' and pressed 'Save WAV...' and it would tell me 'No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format.' Am I doing something wrong? I can use it on other .avi files but not this one (Jumong ep.1).

You probably don't have the codec. It should give you a tag number in the error message. If it is tag 2000, then it is the AC3 audio codec. You can get it here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Filter.htm . If it is a different tag number, you can do a search in google that will tell you which codec to download.

Hmmm. That really should work especially since it says tag 2000.

Download gspot and then load your AVI into it. It will tell you which audio codec you need. It should say AC3 audio. Also check to see if your AVI plays in windows media player.

You might have a bad codec that was installed before that is trying to decode the file. If you send me a short clip about 10 seconds I can take a look at it to see if there is something wrong with the file. Otherwise, check to see if if plays in Windows Media player, check in gspot to see how many codecs you have that will play the file. If there is more than 1, then try disabling the codecs one at a time to see if it works. If you have WinXP you can disable your audio codecs by Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices / Harware / Audio Codecs / Properties.

Hello all,

Up till now I've been using this format to convert avi to dvd with no problem. However, I have some files that I can't convert because I'm getting this error message:

AVISource: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc xivd

I've downloaded the newest xvid already and it still isn't working. Any suggestions as now I'm totally clueless. Thank you.

Double check the AVI in gspot to make sure it says XVID. It should also say the same thing when you load it into SimpleAvis2Dvd. I had some problems playing some XVID AVIs a while back. I discovered that some of the XVID codecs available on the net are not very good. It is the reason I only recommend Koepi's XVID and discourage the use of codec packs. The problem is that when you play a movie, Windows picks a codec. If you have 2 XVID codecs installed, it may always pick the bad one. Some codecs do not follow standard protocols. The only way around this is to uninstall the bad one or disable it.

First make sure it is not a problem with your AVI. Load it up in Windows Media player to make sure you can see it. If it plays, then your AVI is probably fine. Then I would download and install Koepi's XVID and load your AVI back into gspot. If it shows 2 codecs, try and disable the bad one using the method in my previous posting.

nothing goes right w/o a glitch :(

Here's my issue:
Transcoding goes OK, then i have the dvd2svcd window that pops up and initialize CCE. After that, i have the CCE SP window that pops up and save as the Avisynch_script_file.avs and CCE Project File automatically w/o me clicking anything. Encoding seems to go Ok, but then nothing happens. The CCE window is still open, but there is no activity. I look at the progress bar in DVD2svcd and there is only 5% done. Total time from transcoding to encoding was less than 5 min. Btw, i tried to convert the first episode of Unfair, if it matters.

I'm guessing it is your version of CCE.
Try one of these:
1. Use a different encoder - CCE 2.5 and QuEnc will work for sure. TmpgEnc should also work.
2. Try using eclcce. This is supposed to work with the latest version of CCE and dvd2svcd, but I have not tried it myself and I don't know the last time it was updated.

kyuuketsuki, is it possible to change the title of this thread to include the phrase "With Selectable Subtitles" so that other members will notice it more? I still see people posting in the other thread, "How to Burn w/ Subtitles", asking how they can improve the quality because they follow the bad advice of encoding the subtitle into the AVI (hardsubbed it), then re-encoding it to MPEG-2 DVD.

Thx for your help kyuuketsuki! its working now :salut:

Just out of curiosity, have you tried using D2SRoBa?

edit: Another issue :glare: At the end of the conversion, i have a mp2 file and mpv converted to mpg. The i get an error that says that simpleavis2dvd cannot find defaultmenu1.m2v. The directory it's searching in is in Documents and Settings. However, all the defaultmenu files are located in the simpleavis2dvd program directory. Any idea?

Lastly, when i load the simpleavis2dvd into dvdauthorgui, i also get an error saying that it cannot find the mpv file., but isn't the one that has been converted to mpg? Any way around it?

Thanks

I still see people posting in the other thread, "How to Burn w/ Subtitles", asking how they can improve the quality because they follow the bad advice of encoding the subtitle into the AVI (hardsubbed it), then re-encoding it to MPEG-2 DVD.
I tried, but it won't let me because there is a limit on the number of characters in the title.

Thanks
I have not tried D2SRoBa. The guys at doom9.org really like it, but for me, I am more interested in the best quality even if it takes longer, because I just let everything run over night. It would probably be something to try though if you want quicker results. If you get some good results, let me know and if it is not difficult, I will make sure my program works with it.

Just for clarification, you will have several output files for each AVI. The ones that are used are the MPV and MP2. If you have pulldown, then that MPV is used. The MPG is not used at all. The reason I don't use it is because I let dvdauthorgui do the multiplexing. It creates MPGs that are smaller than dvd2svcd. You can use the MPGs though if you use a different authoring tool.

Something goofy is going on with the dvdauthorgui files. What is supposed to happen is that the default menu is copied from the simpleavis2dvd program directory to your output directory.

1. Make sure you have the latest version of simpleavis2dvd
2. Make sure that your hard drive is not full
3. Make sure that your output directory exists under File/Setup

You seem to have a lot of problems which are uncommon. I wonder if your output directory has too many characters in it or something like that. Can you post or email me the log files from your ouput directory and the dvdauthorgui file?

Thanks.

Sorry, the program I wrote doesn't support PAL output only PAL AVI input files. But there are probably plenty of apps that do if you check over at www.videohelp.com.

HELP please!!!

The last 4 dvds i made (all were asian dramas) played on my dvd but it lags during the episodes, the images freeze and unfreeze all the time. How do i fix this so that the next dvds i burn dont have the same problem?

Ahhh just an info...i'm using nero vision to create the menus, encode and burn the dvds.

Sounds to me like incompatibility between your DVD player and the DVDs, but you will have to run some tests to find out exactly what the problem is. I recommend buying some DVD+RWs so you can rewrite some DVDs for testing.

1. Is your DVD player ok? - Test the DVDs in your computer and on another DVD player. Check videohelp.com to see if other people have had similar problems with that DVD player.
2. Is the Nero Vision creating incompatible DVDs? - Play the DVD on your hard drive - point to the VIDEO_TS / AUDIO_TS folder or a VSO file and play with a Windows DVD player. Also author a disc using DvdAuthorGui and play this in your Dvd Player.
3. Are your MPGs ok? - Play the converted MPG using Windows Media Player.
4. Is the AVI ok? Play it in Windows Media Player.
5. Are your DVDRs compatible? - Some brands of DVDRs don't work with combinations of certain burners and DVD players. Try a different brand. Also check a site like Amazon where the people rate the DVDRs and see if other people have had similar problems.

Are you using the MPGs or the MPV+MP2s? I always get better results when using the MPV+MP2. If you do, make sure you use the "pulldown" MPVs if they exist. If you can verify that the MPGs are ok, then you won't have to spend the hours encoding. Also, try to author to your hard drive. This should create a DVD compatible folder with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories. This will keep you from burning DVDs and wasting time with the burning process. After you author to your hard drive, point to that DVD compatibile folder and play it using a software DVD player on your computer. If it works, then you know that the conversion is fine and there is a problem with Nero, the DVDs, your player, or your burner.

I didn't realize you did the complete conversion using Nero Vision. You may want to try the steps in the this tutorial especially since you are getting bad DVDs. You will almost for sure get better looking movies, but it will also probably take longer than Nero Vision to convert.

MPVs are the video files created using the tutorial. MP2s are the audio files. MPGs are the 2 files put together into 1 after multiplexing.

Hi Kyu,

I'm currently trying to convert the drama Demi Gods Semi Devils 2003 to DVD. I'm having a little problem with the converted video and audio extending out about 2 minutes each episode. For example, the original AVI version of episode 3 is 41:25 minutes long, but the converted mpg is 43:07 minutes long. Both the audio and video are insynced, which is fine, until I add on the subtitle. Could you tell me how I can make the final video and audio be the same length as the original AVI? I really don't want to have to go through and redo the timing for the subtitles. I've done a lot of conversions so far, and have been quite successful. Even managed to fix my audio problem from last time, thanks to your guidance. But I've never seen this problem before. Haven't even seen anyone else post this similar problem either, so was wondering if you know how I can corret this. Thank you.

VOB and MPV are not the same. VOB are DVD files and MPV are MPG DVD format Video files.

Well, Nero Vision is good for many people. It is a "quick and easy" conversion which is usually good enough. I prefer "best quality and easy". Also, the fact that the conversion in the tutorial is done with all free tools is nice for many people. Furthermore, I have been converting for many years and have found a way that works every time for me.

What happens when you add the subtitle? Is it out of sync with the video, or are there errors when you convert?

It's just out of sync with the DVD, but is fine with the original AVI file.

Can you check to see if the AVI is PAL? You can load it into gspot and it will report the fps and resolution.

It's 25 fps. Know which options I need to select in virtual dub to convert it to 29.970 fps?

25 fps is PAL. The conversion should be done automatically to NTSC. I don't know if I've ever tried converting PAL to NTSC with soft subs. Is it an AVI that I can download? If so, I can try and dl it and see if I get the same results. Otherwise, if you can send me a short clip with the subs file I will test it.

This is almost always because you don't have the correct codec installed. You can also check your dvd2svcd.log file to see what errors are there. Make sure you have the codec for the FOURCC that is shown when you load the AVI into SimpleAvis2Dvd

It showed the codec is Xvid , which I have already installed the codec with the software you recommended.

HI! i'm sorry to ask this question but i dont know where else to go for help :( please give me some suggestions i'll really appreciate it!!

so i used the windows vista DVD maker to burn onto dvd my first drama ever-1 litre of tears-that were .avi files and hardsubbed. and i did it painlessly without having to convert the files into mpg! is it normal to be able to burn .avi files onto dvd? well anyway, i used bittorent to dl it from jpopsuki, the kioku subbed ones, and everything ran smoothly. but i recently tried burning kurosagi onto dvd but it says the file "is not valid or is corrupted". kurosagi was kioku subbed too but i torrented it off of here, d-addicts. so i compared the properties b'wn my 1LoT videos & kurosagi videos and other than the size, total bit rate, and data rate, nothing is different. i dont understand how i could've burned 1LoT and NOT kurosagi. any suggestions to help solve this prob kyuuketsuki? :[

Don't be sorry for asking questions. It is never a problem.

I have not used Windows Vista DVD maker, but I read it may have many problems. Check here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_DVD_Maker .

"Windows DVD Maker will only work with Microsoft's own formats like WMV and AVI. Windows DVD Maker will crash and unload if other formats are used like XVID encoded files. Windows DVD Maker is very unstable and unreliable."

If it cannot support XVID, then I would not use it. Many AVI files use the XVID codec.

I see no problem with loading AVI files and having a program convert to DVD for you. That is basically what my program does. If it is a DVD Video, then the files are converted to MPG, but it is done in the background so you probably just don't realize it.

So to the problem with the file being invaild. First check to make sure the AVI is ok. Play it in Windows Media Player. If it plays, then the file is good. My guess is that the file is fine, but it is "not supported". I suggest using a different program to make the DVD for kurosagi.

BTW, I loved 1 litre of tears. So sad though.

Ok, I analyzed your files. Your AVI is being reported as 12 seconds. Is this correct, you are doing a test clip of a 12 second file?

Please look in your output folder and tell me if you see an MPV file and an MP2 file.

It actually looks like everything worked, but it is just misreporting an error. If this is the case, then I will send you a new version that will fix that.

I downloaded everything you told us to, including the Koepi's XVID codec for my XVID AVIs.

But when I hit "GO" on SimpleAvis and after BeSweet Transcodes (about 1min.), these two pop up:

The bbMPEG file does not exist! (I have to press "OK" before anything can happen)
Bad parameter = mepg2 (lasts for a few seconds then disappears on its own)

And then the Quenc starts up and does its thing. Will the files still be alright?

Thank you for spending time to analyze my problem. My file is a nearly 700 MB file of an episode which is 45 minute long , but the mpv file is just about 45MB. I hardly know why.
Is there any possibility that it's because my laptop have only about 13 GB left ???

Seems like I have no choice but watch my drama on computer only

The bbMPEG file does not exist! (I have to press "OK" before anything can happen)
Bad parameter = mepg2 (lasts for a few seconds then disappears on its own)

And then the Quenc starts up and does its thing. Will the files still be alright?
I have 5 episodes in a batch, but only the first could be converted. the files for the first one are in DVDOUT. There was another pop up after it finished:

EIniFileException Unable to write to C:\Documents and Settings\Christy\My Documents\DVDOUT\AVISYNTH.INI

but i checked DVDOUT and there is a file called AVISYNTH.INI

my problem is that the other ones won't convert because my Simple Avis 2 DVD is frozen. So I can only convert one episdoe at a time--mulitple dvds instead.

Thank you for spending time to analyze my problem. My file is a nearly 700 MB file of an episode which is 45 minute long , but the mpv file is just about 45MB. I hardly know why.
Is there any possibility that it's because my laptop have only about 13 GB left ???

Seems like I have no choice but watch my drama on computer only
13 GB should be enough space if you delete the intermediate files. I believe we can get this working, but it may take some investigation and time. I had a little trouble reading your log files because there were multiple runs.

1 .Can you delete all the files in your output directory and run a single test with the file that doesn't work? Then send or post the new log files again.
2. Play your AVI in Windows Media Player for at least 1 minute to make sure it is working.
3. It would help me if you could create a clip of your file in Virtual Dub that is about 10 seconds and email it to me. Check the FAQ at the end of the tutorial on how to do this. You may have a strange resolution that I don't handle correctly. I can also check to see if the AVI headers are ok. Not sure why it was reporting 12 seconds in the log file.
4. Try converting an AVI from a different series. If it works, then we know something is wrong with the original AVI.

I believe bbMPEG is needed by DVD2SVCD. Make sure both the output directory and the dvd2svcd directories exist and are set properly in the SimpleAvis2Dvd setup.

You can ignore the BadParameter = mpeg2. This is in the FAQ at the end of the tutorial.
If you still have problems, please post or email me your dvd2svcd log file.

What exactly are you trying to do? First check to see if you can play the AVI in a program like Windows Media Player. If you can't play the AVI, then most likely you don't have the codec. Another possibility is that the AVI is corrupt. It could be a file that was not completely downloaded.

Download gspot and see what it says about the file.

I'm not sure what vobsub is. Does it open AVIs? Are you trying to open AVIs or a different type of file?

Download gspot here http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.htm.

You may have a bad codec. If you have more than 1 codec to play XVID files, then some programs will pick the good one and some will pick the bad one. We still need to determine what the problem is.

1. If you have problems opening all the files with a certian program, uninstall that program, make sure you have the latest version, then reinstall it.

2. Make sure the file is good. Gspot should tell you if the file length matches what is expected.

3. See if you can play DIVX AVI files. Load an AVI into gspot and it will show the DIVX codec. Make sure that you have the latest version of DIVX. Load this AVI into your program and see if you still get the "bad decompressing" error. Try the same thing with an XVID file. If the DIVX works, but the XVID does not, then we know you have a bad XVID codec.

I run Simple Avis 2 Dvd, and after transcoding, I get several errors:
Missing MPEG2Dec DLL (I know I have this. I've looked in the Program Folder)

AviSynth open failure:
LoadPlugin: unable to load ''''
(C:\Documents and Settings\***\My Documents\AviSynth_Script_file.avs, line 1)
I've also checked the logs. The audio .txt doesn't show any problems, but the SimpleAvis2Dvd and dvd2svcd_log txt files do. The errors, respectively, are as follows:
ERROR: Invalid File C:\Documents and Settings\***My Documents\200 Pounds Beauty.mpv

and

Executing MPlex. Commandline:
"" -f 8 -o "C:\Documents and Settings\***\My Documents\MPlex_Muxed_File00.mpg" "C:\Documents and Settings\***\My Documents\Pulldown_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv" "C:\Documents and Settings\***\My Documents\200 Pounds Beauty.mp2"
Createprocess failed.
MPlex failed. Please verify your Multiplexer tab.
I can't continue without fixing this problems. Otherwise, the process takes about half an hour, which can't be right. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, and if it helps any, I opened DVD2SVCD and manually found where all the files were. For example, on the Audio tab, I had to find where BeSweet was located in the program folder and then double click. Same for MadPlay and PullDown. I assumed I had to do that for MultiPlexer, but it won't recognize WinSubMux as a file at all. Of course, there's a high probability that I've been doing something wrong...

I've attached my logs to make things easier.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. You should not have to set the paths for BeSweet, MadPlay, etc. These are done automatically during setup. The only thing you have to set is the encoder and set the tab for AVI to DVD as shown in the tutorial.

Uninstall DVD2SVCD and then reinstall it. Then open it up and make sure all the paths are set properly as you expect. Also, make sure to download the lastest version of SimpleAvis2Dvd. You are using an old version.

Please read the FAQ at the end of the tutorial.

If you are still having problems, then email or post your SimpleAvis2Dvd and Dvd2Svcd log files that are in your output folder.

Hi kyuuketsuki,

When I tried to preview the video before encoding on DVD2SVCD, I get this error:

Script Error: Expected ')'
C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\TEMP\preview.avs, line 3, column 19

Anyway for me to encode this video? When playing with Window Media Player, it can play with no problem. I use GSpot and both audio and video codecs are installed.

Thank you.

I uninstall and reinstall DVD2SVCD and everything worked. Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I've encoded so many drama series from your tutorial into DVD's.

I downloaded the witch amusement w/hardsub from torrent. When I want to convert it using Tmpgenc, it says file cannot open or unsupported. I checked with GSpot and noticed this codec ITU H.264 is not available. What codec is this? Do I have to install this codec?

Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Yes, you will need this codec. Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264
Scroll down to "Prominent software implementations" and you'll see there are a couple of freeware packages that include this codec: x264 and livabcodec.

Codec packs are notorious for creating incompatibility issues when playing videos. This is especially true if you have more than one codec installed for a given video type. It is never a bad idea to install just the codec you need instead of a full package. This way if you have problems, you can uninstall the single codec that is giving you problems. You can usually find the codec simply by doing a google search.
