The best KDrama of 2006?
Most of you who've watched more than one recent KDrama have probably noticed that 2006 was a good, a very good year for KDrama. With many comedies or maturer dramas like Alone in Love or Snowflakes dominating the scene, we've been able to enjoy a wider variety of dramas this year than we have in previous years. But which KDramas were the very best in 2006? I still haven't watched a few recent KDramas I've been meaning to watch (like Jumong), but out of the ones I watched, my list goes as follows...
1) Soulmate
2) Hyena (from what I've seen... a definitive winner)
3) Fantasy Couple
Also good were (among others): Alone in Love, Rude Woman, Goodbye Solo, My Girl, Bad Family...
What's your list for 2006?

2) Hyena (from what I've seen... a definitive winner)
3) Fantasy Couple

What's your list for 2006?
I've only seen 3 dramas from 2006 so far. Here they are in my order of preference.
1 - Alone in Love - my favourite drama of all time... so far. I liked just about everything about this one.
2 - Goong - It was well done but I thought the last few episodes kinda fell apart.
3 - Fantasy Couple - it's ok. I don't care for Han Ye seul's acting but the show is enjoyable.
I'm going to check out Soulmate and Hyena now. I've been Hearing good things about What's up Fox as well.
I thought My Girl was 2005. If it's 2006 then I'd put My Girl in #2 and Goong is tied with Fantasy Couple for #3

1. Over the Rainbow / Goong / My girl
2. One Fine Day / Spring Waltz
3. Bad Family / Great Inheritance
yea... i'm indecisive and i'd put snow queen up there too but the series is not done yet and i don't know how the second half of the series will be so i'm going to leave it out

If you loved Alone in Love, I think you'd like Goodbye Solo. It's another more realistic, adult-oriented KDrama, but I think seeds are hard to get. It's an 'underground' kind of tip, but I think everybody who is tired of clichéd drama targeted at teens should give it a try.TrevorGod wrote:I've only seen 3 dramas from 2006 so far. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try to get Goodbye Solo next... or at least as soon as I can. So much downloading, so little time and space.Néa Vanille wrote:TrevorGod wrote: If you loved Alone in Love, I think you'd like Goodbye Solo. I agree with the author of this thread that a lot of K-series have been outstanding for the year 2006. I've a long list right now, from that, I've listed some that have really put me at the edge of my bed while watching them, as follows:
1) My Girl
2) Lover in Prague
3) Goodbye Solo
4) Alone In Love (Cried a bucket of tears here with Son Ye Jin)
5) Spring Waltz
6) Exhibition of Fireworks
and many..many others. I have yet to watch Hyena and Fantasy Couple. I've heard they're promising.

I actually didn't like year 2006 that much. But there were a few enjoyable dramasNéa Vanille wrote:Most of you who've watched more than one recent KDrama have probably noticed that 2006 was a good, a very good year for KDrama. I'm pretty sure My Girl is 2005... it got awards in 2005. >_> Although it carried over to 2006, it didn't get any drama awards for 2006 (I don't think?), so I count it as 2005.
1. Jumong
2. Fantasy Couple
3. Pure 19
4. Rumors of the Chil Princesses
I have yet to watch Hwang Jini or Snow Queen which I've heard some good things about tho .... we'll see. ^^

Wow, I really can't believe how many K Dramas I watched in 2006, which I think is well over 20. I must not have had much on my hands. My top three for 2006 are:
1) Jumong (Number 2 on my all time list) I'm only on episode 28 so anything can happen with this long series. It could drop or be my #1 all time favorite after the 80th episode. - Thanks D Fansubs for the subs
2) Fantasy Couple - Thanks WITH S2 for the subs
3) Snow Queen - Thanks D Fansubs for the subs.

1. Soulmate - i have one last ep. to watch. kind of sad to see it end.
2. Rude Women (Rude Woman) - not done watching, but it's fun
Sorry to disagree with all you people, but I can't seem to finish Fantasy Couple (1 ep. left) and the last couple episodes I watched I had to force myself through them.. it's just not that fun for me. And What's Up Fox was kinda like that too, although with a bit more interesting characters. It lacks the spark of MNIKSS.
I think my next drama will by hyena as recommended by some =)

I watched and loved it. But I think the big reason why it's not popular on this board is because it has little to do with most of us. The majority of us are teens and twens and less interested in husband-wife and child-care issues, making them less enthusiastic about trying this lovely drama. I agree it's a shame.missatralissa wrote:i can't believe more people didn't watch and love Outrageous Women / Rude Woman, it was so hilarious, and Lee Ki Woo was so adorable/amazinglsexy!

personally, i was not impressed overall with the quality of kdramas from 2006... daily dramas and historical dramas were generally pretty good... not many of them are subbed, though because they are much longer than the typical "mini-series" and i'm sure all that work is way too overwhelming and time consuming for any subbing team, who already are doing an excellent job with many of the current dramas. other than that i'm disappointed with the so-called "trendy dramas." for example, recent ones like 90 Days Time For Love, Snow Queen, Snow Flower, Korea Secret Agency/Invincible Parachute Agent (just to name a few) have failed to catch my interest. i am easily bored of drama with pretty faces, mediocre acting and cliched storylines.
however, 2006 was not a bad year... just that the dramas were not the best compared to recent years, imo. some worth mentioning, in random order:
- alone in love (superb acting, more realistic than the typical drama)
- bad family (fun family oriented drama, great lead actors kim myung min/nam sang mi, although i feel they look awkward as a couple)
- goong (i LOVED the production... the set, costumes, food, everything was impressive but the acting from the leads were far from any good, although Song Ji Hyo was bearable)
- my girl (started out great... fun drama overall, just didn't like how it got a little too dramatic and midway and lost its momentum. LDH is just excellent, and shows her versatility in a more comedic role)
- please come back soon-ae (this drama is highly underrated on d-addicts/soompi, but it's one of the best i've seen all year... exellent actors, good storyline, pacing wasn't slow, loved the parodies of other dramas/films)
- Fantasy Couple (acting was so-so, but i enjoyed the drama anyway... just about anything written by the Hong sisters is expected to be good)
- joo mong (what can i say? i love historical dramas and this was by far one of the best dramas of the year... acting and production was amazing)
- hwang jin yi (ha ji won was perfect in this role... i'm also excited for the film and to see Song Hye Kyo's portrayal of this character)
i've watched many dramas this year, and most were mediocre (One Fine Day, Over the Rainbow, Mr. Goodbye, Great Inheritance/Kindergarten Love, Cloud Stairway, etc). i really expected better of What's Up Fox? and Rude/Outrageous Women, which started off pretty good but just went downhill midway. aside from talented actors, i just didn't care for the plot/storyline.

2006 best drama
It seems like at one point 2006 will never end for me because there were so many good dramas being subbed by WITH S2 and D-fansubs that was made available at d-addicts. It was such a beautiful drama year. Even with all the dramas at d-addicts, I realized that
there are still more dramas at club box which I do not have access to since they are in Korean. But anyway, d-addicts more than made up for it.
Thank you guys for all your hard work
My favorites are
Alone in Love
Goodbye Solo
What's Up Fox
My Girl
Goong
Have not watched Fantasy Couple yet-will watch soon and see where it stands.
I have never thought that korean drama can be boring-the entertainment value is way up there that it kind of made up for any cliche in the story line.

I like hyena too but i've only seen the first two episodes. I like the more adult dramas with a different storyline/different format.
