This is the way I do it.
For instance, the file you want has the url: http://www.youtube.com/?v=NdronuRtb3c
Copy and paste that url and change it to the following instead: http://www.youtube.com/get_video.php?video_id=NdronuRtb3c
Then when you're going to download the file, it'll come up as get_video.php, so change that to name_of_file.flv ... (Because it's a video flash file ofcourse!)
There are many '.flv' players out there, and I even used a program to convert some of the .flv clips i've downloaded to avi, and mpg etc using "Total Video Converter".
I hope that was useful :]

everyone uses firefox right? shame on u if u dont
install greasemonkey extension
search for youtube download script for greasemonkey - install it
go to youtube video and low and behold...download link at the top. Rename the file to .swf if u want to play it or use something like xilinisoft encoder to convert to whatever - i usually convert it to dvix / xvid...job done.
Also greasemonkey has some nice ext for google video as well...I thought everyone used this method?

Okay, I've found a way ^___^v (it's a bit complicated, though .__.)
The difference is that once you have seen the video, you have to open the Temporary Internet Files folder. Then you find the corresponding file, and take note of the URL description beside it.
the URL is not www.youtube.... , but there is a series of numbers or letters before, like:
v129.youtube.com/...
at that point, in order to DL the video, the url is not
http://www.youtube.com/get_video.php?vi ... dronuRtb3c
but
http://v129.youtube.com/get_video.php?v ... dronuRtb3c
Then it's the usual (saving the video with the .FLV extension).
... Well, I still hope there's a simpler way to do this >__<

lol, here's the simpler way
Yes, I also use Firefox^^

nameofyourmovie.flv
you change the flv part into avi, mpeg, wmv, or whatever(i havn't tried all of them yet) and then you press the ---->flv encode button
you can change the information on the right side to get better qualities. i usually use
Video:
movie size
640x480
framerate
25
bitrate
768
audio:
bitrate
112
sampleing rate
44100hz
that seemed to work good for me. the result has almost the sam quality and is at a reasonable size.
Ok....step by step guide it is then...
1. Install Firefox.
2. Install Grease Monkey: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... 6.4-fx.xpi
3. Install script. Rename attached file extension to ".js"
4. Open file in browser. Click to install.
5. Thats it.
If you still cant get it to work then u really need to look into how to use a pc. When I was told about this all I was told was GM and that was it, nothing more.
There are other ways to do it, this way works for me best.
1. Install Firefox.
2. Install Grease Monkey: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... 6.4-fx.xpi

Hi just a quick question. i tried to burn the converted flv files (to avi files) from youtube into VCD....but so strange...what happen is the the audio quality is so bad (is sort of fast forward ...faster so its sound like house music...but the picture quality is good...
what happened?? how can we resolve this?? is this normal?? is that means we can burn it into VCD??
thanks in advance...^^

I actually burned off the some utube files for the first time last night. Converted them to svcd format and burned the files with no problems. Also, the using nero vision express, avi files transcoded fine as well...the encoder is very slow in my eyes though but does a decent job.
I dont usually convert avi to mpeg's using the primary app like nero, I prefer using a dedicated app for each thing so its optimized all the way....do become lazy sometimes though and just do the whole drag and drop thing.
Check out some dvd encoding sites,, they usually have a decent list of freeware for doing specific things.
Oh and Nero 7 is the like sooo crap. They really screwed up on the vxd calls on this version...new roxio is even worse. I say always use nero 6...its like the best burning program there is at the moment.

JenBell is correct. This has always worked for me when yanking videos off YouTube. It also works for many other sites that use embedded players. But I'll stay on-topic.JenBell wrote:If u use firefox, look for the video downloader extension...awesome
First you need to be using the Firefox web browser: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
You will need to install the Flash plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/plugins/
Then you need to install the VideoDownloader extension for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/
Once that's done, go to YouTube, find the video you want to grab, and click on its link. Once the video starts playing, click the embedded player's pause button.
Click the VideoDownloader icon in the lower-right corner of the Firefox window. A dialog will pop up telling you that you'll need to rename the file to something.flv. Right-click on the Download Link button, select Save Link As, rename the file, and click Save.
Once the file has finished downloading, you can watch it with FLV Player. But a better solution is using Media Player Classic that comes with the Combined Community Codec Pack. The CCCP uses ffdshow to decode almost everything, including Flash Video. (1)
To convert the FLV to something else, say a DivX AVI, VCD/SVCD/DVD compliant MPG, or perhaps a file for your iPod Video player, the best app I found for this purpose, especially because it is FREE, is called SUPER. It is a front end GUI for several open-source and freeware tools that is bundled with everything it requires to work.
Bear in mind, YouTube videos are (or are supposed to be) 320x240.(1) Almost all YouTube videos are 29.97fps. Make sure the output frame rate is the same.
I know, I know, I've mentioned this program in at least three threads by now. So I sound like I'm shillin' for the authors. I'm not. It's just when I discovered it and found how useful it is for basic video conversions.... Anyway, it does have it's limitations. But for conversions like this, it's perfect. And most importantly, it's free.
The program takes several seconds to come up. But when you see it, you will realize how easy it is to use. When you first run it, right-click on the main window and change the directory where you want the converted files to go. And when you're done converting things, right-click in the upper-right hand corner where it says Right-Click to exit.
Play around. See what the program can do.
Oh, and for those people who want to convert multi-part YouTube files to something else and join them together, I suggest converting to DivX encoded AVIs using the exact same settings for each conversion. Then use VirtualDubMod to put them all together. Or, you could convert to VCD/SVCD/DVD compliant MPG, and use something like TMPGEnc to join them together. But first, you might see if the original is available via IRC, Usenet, or bit torrent first....heh.
Have fun.
M.G
(1)
For some reason some files on YouTube were encoded with a frame size of 320x239 instead of 320x240. These will play fine with FLV Player. But when using a setup like mine (i.e., Media Player Classic & ffdshow) the video will have green and/or blue junk overlaid on the picture. This is because ffdshow does not like to decode video frame sizes with odd numbers. Re-encoding the file with SUPER will fix this.
