Which manga would you want to see 'drama-tised'?

Post by Corona » Oct 5th, '05, 22:29

I read my fair share of manga's, and I've also seen a few Drama's that were based on manga's (Meteor garden, Mars, Devil beside you etc). There are so many great manga's! I'd love to see more of them in drama-form! Now my question is

Which manga would you want to see drama-tised? And why?
Also extra (free bonus ;) question. What actors would you pick for certain roles in this manga (Be it Korean/Chinese/Japanese/etc mix 'm all together!)

My choice of manga would be Hot Gimmick! ( more info here: http://www.zaha.net/shoujo/aihara/hotgi ... mmick.html )

"When high school girl Hatsumi has to buy a pregnancy test because her popular sister Akane is "late", She runs into Ryoki, who used to bully Hatsumi as a kid, Ryoki promises not to tell the world about Hatsumi’s secret—only if she becomes his slave. Meanwhile Azusa, Hatsumi’s protector in their youth, reappears! He’s moving back into the neighborhood! Despite the budding romance between Hatsumi and Azusa, Ryoki has control over Hatsumi through the secret that could ruin the lives of everyone in Hatsumi’s family"

Bad boy Ryoki should be played by Bi, because..hmm yes, just because, How does he look with glasses?
Image

Main Girl Hatsumi could be played by Rainie Yang, she'd be an excellent Hatsumi (must be those facial expressions)
Image

Strange combination? Yes! :D

I hope this has not been asked before, such a big forum, and so many many topics (I did do some checking)

I agree about Bi for Hot Gimmick. After Full House he seems quite able to play the petulant and abusive Ryoki, and think Rainie could play the victim quite well.

I'd love to see Perfect Girl Evolution/The Wallflower. Insert hot guy of choice for Takenaga, Ranmaru and Yuki and Kyohei. No idea for Sunako. I think this would be really hard to film.

I'd also quite like to see W-Juliet and I'd have Kame as Makoto

The Wallflower, excellent choice! And who can object against many goodlooking guys in one drama?

I wonder who could pull of a good Sunako, someone who can have nosebleeds in a flash. Appearance wise (After cleaning up Sunako) she reminds me a bit of the bad girl from Devil beside you. Could be the hair though.

In each and every one of these manga/anime -> live drama topics, I always choose Ai Yori Aoshi. And each time I mention it, people chew it up into pieces because of its sexual content. Although it does have the "fan service" element like most sorta-soft-porn anime, this particular one has many elements of a trendy drama. Heck, if they can turn GTO into a live drama (Onizuka looking up young girls' skirts while sitting under a stairway is much more extreme), Ai Yori Aoshi would be a breeze to clean up and be converted into a rated-G drama.

Who says it has to be G-rated? ;)

I never really liked Ai Yori Aoshi, but that's personal taste only, I know many people who do like it. Considering the story, it will probably be a very succesfull drama, also succesfull in attracting a large male audience :lol

You mean there are more topics like this one? *gulp*

Ichigo 100%! Just cause it's got lots of girls and fan service, though its very lacking in the story department.

My vote goes to I's which has much better pacing is IMHO the best shounen romance manga out there.

YAH ichigo I really want to see an Ichigo 100% drama series. The anime wasn't that good unlike the manga
I wonder who would cast as NISHINO TSUSAKA. If there was a drama on ichigo 100% it should be based on the manga than the anime.

Absolutely loved Kare Kano anime. Didn't finish it cause my friend told me the ending was bad.

A young Noriko Sakai would be perfect to play Iori from I's since the character was modelled after her.

Saw the anime like 4/5 years ago and was told the ending was like eva's. Read somewhere the abrupt ending was cause the mangaka didn't like the anime and wanted it stopped. Maybe I should hunt for the manga. The characters in the show were absolutely crazy. :lol

Yeah the KareKano ending was pretty abrupt, but it's still a great series! And if they should ever make a drama out of it, then could put in a definitive ending...Or put in the ending from the manga (which I do not know)

I'd like to see a Kare First Love drama (different from Kare Kano), although I don't know how the story ends yet. My little sister loves this manga, and that's how I found out about it.

One manga doinkies thinks would work perfectly as a drama would be Binetsu Shoujo by Miyasaka Kaho. A synopsis:

Rina is a 15 year old girl who, ever since she was a child, was not very healthy. Since she had been in and out of hospitals and schools all her life, she became a rather shy girl. She gets interested in a boy who takes the same train to school, and one day she finally wracks up the courage to ask his name….

I can't really think of any actors right now but once I think of some doinkies will post them in this post.

PGE/The Wallflower for me.. I think maybe Kou Shibasaki can pull off Sunako  and I've discussed with my friends before who would make the perfect 4 guys and we ended up with four of guys from Kat-Tun & also Arashi hehehe ^^

Hana-Kimi, Hot Gimmick, Wallflower... Othello would really be fun. Loli style, music, comedy. @_@ I know there's a Taiwanese version of MARS, but I always thought that would make a nice tear-jerker movie. Beni-iro HERO. Oh, I'd love for someone (not the Japanese) to make God Child. That would just kick ass visually, but let's just face it. It'd be weird with all Asian people. No offense... e_e' Man, I wish I knew manga from outside of America! I'm sure there's plenty of groovy stuff that I have no idea exists. o_o' A live action BECK would be cool too. Live music! ^^ It sucks they only do things that take place in real life. There's a bunch of cool stuff out there, but it'd require totally new sets and stuff. Too difficult and expensive. -_-

Hmm, and who to cast... Well, for Wallflower Koike Teppei could be Yuki. Oh, I'd try to cast him in anything... He's so cute! And Kame could be one of the guys, I guess...and...and...Abe Hiroshi! o_o' I don't know what he'd do, but he'd kick ass in any drama. e_e'

Personally, I think the chances of seeing Hot Gimmick in drama form, are not that low.
The same goes for Hana Kimi, but indeed what cute girl can play a boy too, it has to be possible, somehow :D *thinks*

I'd love to see MeruPuri (mangaka: Hino Matsuri) in drama form, but then again; since it's a fantasy-romance kind of manga, I think it would be near impossible to do and it will probably turn out extremely tacky. Hmm, maybe with a gigantic budget.

...Maybe not.

Then again, who wouldn't want to know the real life drama counterparts of these two:

Image

Any suggestions? ;)

"Miss Modern" or any of Waki Yamamoto's (or is it Waki Yamato?) works
"Popcorn" - forgot who wrote this and what the original Japanese title is.

Paradise Kiss. Well, continue where the anime left off. The anime was put in a drama time slot and got huge rating. No brainer.

I really want to see something like, FUSHIGI YUGI was really really GOOD!!!!!. it made me brought the whole series!!!!. i think about $800-1000 bucks, but tolally worth it! I didn't buy a box set because they tend to cut some parts off, i buy indivual DVDs when it was first release!.

-Fushigi Yugi(fushigi Yuugi)
-Ceres
-Golden Boy
-Yakitate Japan
-Suzuka (mostly this will come out in Dorama...)
-Monster
-Rounin Keshin

i think parfait tic would be pretty good, but it's a bit hard to sustain a love triangle for a long time. i think that manga does a good job, but it might be hard to adapt. that's why i liked hyd so much because it wasn't just a love triangle. it was also about reaching inside yourself to discover that your life isn't going to be perfect and the way that it was planned. if someone loves you so much, the circumstances don't matter.

ichigo channel would be fun. and i don't think it'd be hard to make a girl look like a guy. lots of guys in dramas look pretty feminine, and even in the manga she didn't look very boyish. tajima mimi's other manga koi suru 1/4 would be good too.

also ueda rinko's historical stuff would be good as well. tsuki no shippo is great. the only thing is that they'd have to do tsuki no toiki, ai no kizu first.

Yes i do agree with steam.boy that Goong would be nice if it was made into a drama, but i was also hoping that they will make an anime of it first.
Anyway, i hope that they will do a good jop, or they will be killed since i love that manga.

My picks would be Beniiro Hero aka Crimson Hero, Koukou Debut, Samurai Baby, Hot Blooded Woman, ShiWhaMong.
The last 2 would be a little bit difficult cos HBW has spirit/ghost in it and ShiWhaMong talks about a identical triplet. So one actrice needs to play 3 different rolls but with blue/green screens it should be possible. And if they film it cleverly they don't have to use many blue/green screens.

Haha, when I saw the title of the thread, the first manga that popped in my head was Hot Gimmick. I just started reading it (a friend got me the first 2 volumes for xmas), and I think it'd be quite an interesting drama. ^^ The plot is so strange. Lol. It almost seems similiar to Kimi wa Petto...but not quite.

As for actors...no idea! :lol

I never read Hot Gimmick but I guess so many ppl can't be wrong, eh. lol.

Of the ones I read, I also think Kare Kano would make a good drama, but it might be hit or miss if they get too introspective.

I'm also thinking Aishiteruze Baby would make a cute drama.

i would like to see...Hana Kimi (but with a different ending), the wallflower, host club, love monster (though it would be hard), fruits basket (it too might me hard), koukou, parfit, a thousand years of snow (this too will be hard), and so mcuh more that i love!!!....it would be hard to pick actors for the roles....if you wanna know or read this manga let me know they're all go great i love it!

I think Nodame Cantabile would make an awesome drama.

It would be really easy to adapt straight into a drama, and it wouldn't need a huge budget or special effects or anything...maybe besides renting out all those orchestras...XD

Others I would be interested in would be Death Note, 20th Century Boys, Beck and Hikaru No Go.

I would love to see Planetes turned into a live action Sci-Fi show but I doubt that would ever happen.

So to be more realistic, perhaps Genshiken and Monster.

Man there's nothing linking those manga together...

Ok lets see, the mangas that would be perfect for dramas are:
1. Hot Gimmick (Haha Ryoki should be played by someone who can look smart, bossy and still so funny)
2. Hanakimi (True where are they going to find an actress that will play both a cute girl and be believable as a guy, oh and whose going to play the guy)
3. Hot Blooded Woman (its possible, the spirit part doesnt really matter as long as the main point of story is same and actors can act their parts well)
4. Kare Kano (This manga would be so hilarious right well since the beginning of the anime made me laugh so much)
5. Kare First Love (This is possible too, like any typical shoujo or romantic comedy stories)
6. Skip Beat (once its finished of course)

Maybe not:
1. Tokyo Crazy Paradise (prefer anime for all the action scenes)
2. Yakitate (huh maybe not, unless they can find very talented actors who can show skills in cooking or have really believable or unbelievable acid trips :goggle: )
3. Or anything that cost so much and just plainly impossible

If anything, these not made into dramas can be animes instead because that would be easier to do right and look much cooler?

and i'd also like to see pi-chan as ichigo from bleach, if i wasn't sure it would turn into another saiyuuki, bleh... but if it could be done halfway decent, i'd love to see bleach...
and paradise kiss is another favorite... so those would be my wanna-sees...

I would love to see "The Wallflower" by Tomoko Hayakawa. But who would play those BEAUTIFUL BOYS? (A NEW F4)

"Sensual Phrase" by Mayu Shinjo. It would be great if they used a real J-pop band. But who? Yes I know they had a real band by that name for the anime. BUT I WANT TO SEE LOTS OF CUTE GUYS.

The Kare Kano anime ends abruptly but that's just the anime and the anime only covers about 1/4 the manga.. The manga continues well into their high school years. I think the Kare Kano manga is ending this year, probably in the May or June release of La-la, not sure. But yeah, it is ending.
I think the reason why the Evangelion director left the show was because he wanted Kare Kano to be more comedic and the mangaka wanted it to be romantic. I dunno. Somewhere along those lines. But yeah, I think Kare Kano would make a great drama.

I"s - I would heart it if it ever became a drama, though the story may be a bit single track
The only other one I can think of is Pastel... or kashimashi girl meets girl =P

Evangelion =P =P =P
Gunda.... nvm

And somehow I think Marmalde Boy has been done, but as a TWDrama

Isn't Evangelion Live Action already in production? I think I read that somewhere.

yamato nadeshiko shichihenge/perfect girl evolution would be great!! *_* Plenty of japanese pretty boys to choose from (I can't imagine it being made in anything but a jdrama, it's just the style...). Like someone said, Koike Teppei makes a perfect Yuki. I wonder who's cool enough to be Kyohei?

One manga/anime that I actually think could be a drama already is Prince of Tennis o_o it's so popular in Japan, I wonder why they didn't make a drama. Of course, those special moves would be hard to be made in real life..but they could adapt the story. Plus it could include a huge casting of pretty boys, hahahaha

Anyway, as some have said, Hot Gimmick is my number 1 wish for a drama closely followed by Kare Kano. Though, I have been reading some of my old manga lately, and thought that Kodocha would make for a real interesting drama since it's focoused around younger people than normal dramas are. :lol

Isn't there a musical of it, because I've read a few places about people gushing over how cool it is. Could be as close to a PoT drama as it's going to get unless someone takes a real particular interest in making one. x:

who knows
they say one thing, then another
even if it is, it won't be out until 2020 *shrugs*

The only one I'd really like to see, though, is I"s, though there's nothing groundbreaking about it, so it's probably already been done in some other drama that I don't know about.

Ranma 1/2!!!

Yes, I realize it would be next to impossible given the whole premise of the show... but I still think it would be funny to see it as a live action, minus the nudity of course. Though I have no idea who should play the roles. Maybe someone new and undiscovered, like they did for Goong. :P

Ooooh, I absolutely LOVE Kare Kano! And Hana Kimi's pretty good too. My favorite manga is Fruits Basket, but I supposed that'd be hard to have a drama with people transforming into animals. Still, I'd love to see a Kyou or a Shigure played by some hot Asian guy.    Another manga that could be dramatized would be Skip Beat. Hilarious. Parfait Tic would've been nice, except now it's just long and boring. Let's see....what else. Well, there's Good Morning Call. That's decent.

I really thought NANA would be a drama and not a Live Action but.. well.. anyways.. I wanted NANA to be a drama.

I think I'd also like to see a japanese version of MARS.

Aishiteruze Baby could be such an adorable drama too.

Has anyone of you seen The Outsiders?? Does it relate to the book by S.E. Hinton at all or does it just have the same title??

I really want Sarah Dessen's book This Lullaby to be drama-tised. *sigh* That'd be soooo awesome.

Sorry if this is off topic.

I agree that Hanakimi and Perfect Girl Evolution (Wallflower) would make interesting dramas. Actually I'm really surpirsed Wallflower hasn't been picked up, especially since it has the making of a huge following with all those male characters! Especially with the sucess of Meteor Garden.

My fave manga is Ryo by Ueda Rinko and I think it would make an awesome historical drama. But I don't think it has enough following to ever be picked up. :-( Hmm... I also I recently read some of the Korean manhwa Chocolat and I think that would be pretty interesting too.

perfect girl evolution would be interesting, but that might be a long drama, there are soo many volumes! I would also like to see Snow Drop, and Hot Gimmick. It might be difficult for a drama but, I would like to see Fruits Basket also.

Red Lion would be doable

Post by dsldtiger » Mar 13th, '06, 04:02

For manga/manhwa that I'd like to see into a movie (Aside from the other awesome ones already suggested) would be:
1. Red Lion - girl jjang tries to lead a normal life, but trouble keeps finding her.
2. Hoosamguk gokyu - granddaughter of a rich and prestigious group goes to prove that the prospective contenders who want to marry her for her inheritance are not worthy and are incapable of beating her in a matches of wits, strength, and skill.
3. Special A - About a non-stop competition btwn two top students one boy and one girl (akin to Kare Kano)
4. Hoshigari Love Dollar - Rich child prodigy falls for outspoken girl
5. Love Monster - but that'd be super hard to make into a movie.

So many great mangas out there :D Sorry I probably didn't do the synopsis justice, but the story lines are really great!

has anybody ever read Salad Days? its a bunch of short love stories about young people who all live in the same world.. but as the story progresses, it gets more focused on a couple named Futaba and Yuu. its really good, even though its fairly old. seems like a reasonably easy series to make into a drama as well. :roll

It would be funny to see a Naruto live action series imo =P..but that would be a lot of work I guess..ohwell I also really want to see Kare Kano 'drama-tised'!!
I really love the manga and a drama would be so awesome..Dunno who should play Yukino though..maybe Sawajiri Erika?! And then Soichiro can be played by someone from Johnny's?!
Ohwell that's my first thought about it..
Fruits Basket would indeed make a good drama as well..

When it comes to Korean manga,I would wanna see a drama series of Kill Me,Kiss Me or Snow Drop. They both have really good love stories so..

PoT Live Action movie will be out around May. They are using the new cast from the musical for Seigaku and some of the original cast members for other teams. Echizen is played by a real child actor though.

Ok, I'm definitely going to read some of these mangas. You all have piqued my curiosity too much! XD My choice would probably be Deep Love. I think a kdrama could do it justice, but it might be a little risqué for that venue. ^^;

Oh, and I'd like to see Akuma de Sourou (Devil Does Exist) made into a kdrama instead of twdrama. :mutter grumble: The story's really not as lighthearted as they make it seem in the drama.

Mangas that I want to see as dramas:

Monster by Naoki Urasawa :thumleft:
Dr. Tenma is a Japanese man working in Germany. He has it all, incredible medical skill, a great job, a beautiful fiancee. He becomes disillusioned with the hospital politics though, when one day he's ordered to forgo operating on a critically injured man in favor of someone who was more famous. After this point, he decides he will do what he thinks is right, regardless of politics.

One day, a young boy and his younger sister were brought in. The boy had a bullet in his head, an operation that the doctor knows only he is capable of completing successfully. But soon after a politician was brought to the hospital and the high ups in the hospital want Dr. Tenma to leave the boy to operate on the politician. Dr. Tenma decides that he'll do what's right and save the young boy's life.

The young boy's operation was a success, but the surgeons operating on the politician fail, prompting his life to fall apart. Dr. Tenma is passed over for a promotion and his fiancee becomes cold to him and eventually leaves him.

But soon after, strange murders begin to occur, ones that benefit Dr. Tenma greatly and though he becomes the #1 suspect, they have no evidence against him. But it seems that the boy whose life he saved has a hand in things, and that he is much more than he seems...
