Wow I love this series. Maybe its because I've been in love with Misaki Ito ever since she was the Shiseido cover girl. Seeing her in CM's on big screens all over and on posters musta hypnotized me or she really is a 'kyobijin' (btw, is it just me or has she had a nosejob since '02). But she kinda had a shallow part to play tho. It was always her getting heart-broken then mountains moving to show her the reality of the situation or the same for the lead actor. And the lead actor reminds me of Chris Catan from SNL. While he does do the role well, I hated his stuttering voice. Kinda wished he'd improve that over time more. Up to episode 10 atm and I eagerly await leaving the library and connecting my external HDD to copy the last episode over so I can watch. But 2 exams tomorrow...decisions....
BTW this place rules. Some random guy on a forum for a fansub group I tl for told me about it. I love raws, nothing to obstruct Misaki's beauty!

there was always one part that i was always curious about, wheneve they out to dinner or mett up to go to something, Yamada always caries a bag, and i thought it was a present he was suppose to give, but end the end he always walks home with it. can anyone tell me why? this is the first time i've seen something like that, so i'm don't really know if thats just something normally done.
I’ve read this entire thread over the past couple days and now want to add a few brief comments.
Densha Otoko was one of the best TV series I’ve ever seen – from any country. I originally found the series because of Gokusen, in which Itoh Misaki has a small role as the high school’s English teacher. I wanted to find another drama she was in and D.O. sounded the most interesting.
I actually just watched the episodes over the past couple weeks. I wanted to make sure I had them all lined up beforehand because I hate cliffhangers. It took me a little while to get into it because Tsuyoshi really is almost completely socially dysfunctional, at least at the start of the series. But the laugh out loud humor and the amazingly beautiful Saori (she looks way better in this show than she did in Gokusen) kept me coming back. Also, despite Tsuyoshi’s annoying stuttering and crying, the guy slowly began growing on me. The more I watched, the more I wanted him to succeed, probably I saw a little of him in myself when I thought back on my own pathetic first attempts at talking to women and dating.
The scene from Episode 4 on the beach is what completely hooked me. After that, I was watching two episodes a night until I finished it. I had no idea Densha Otoko would turn out to be such a hilarious and genuinely moving show, and I’m so glad I found it.
Over at a dance discussion board I post on, I wrote up a pretty big post about the show, hoping to generate some more interest. We’ll see.
One other thing, I want to offer a huge THANK YOU for all the people involved in subtitling this show. The Japanese class I took a couple years ago left me able to understand only a few words here and there. I would have been totally lost without you guys! Keep up the great work!!

heyhey all,
new member, bounced around from wikipedia and ended up hurr.
Just finished the series, it RULES! absolute best **** ever. I love the various references to anime & junk.
Skimmed a bit of the thread, here are my thoughts...
- Yes, there were so many times I Wanted to smash my face into the monitor cause densha was being such a tool. But I had to resist, the little guy is hard to root against.
- Damn, he's short. hahahaha
- "otaku" = "house," and refers to fanboys of anything in general, be it movies, games, anime, porno, sports, etc. Its a derogatory word that became such because of the stereotype that anime fanboys in particular spend their days locked in their rooms watching anime, etc etc. (dont know if anyone cleared that up).
- Sambomaster song = woot!
- I don't like the movie actors as much as I like the ones from the show. But I attibute that to bias.
- Jinkama & Ryoko = hot!
- The opening is fuckin dope as hell. I hope they have a "creditless" version on the DVD or something.
word, I'm done! SOmeone PM me when a subbed torrent of the movie is available.

It doesnt have the Imperial March, tho. LOL
Oh, I was watching the broadcast of it here in SF on the teebee, and they EDITED OUT THE IMPERIAL MARCH.
SO LAME.
It almost removes Jinkama's "cool" factor cause instead itp lays some lame-arse stuff.
Just thought I'd mention that.
I really thought this series was the best drama show I've ever seen, even after showing my friends, I've yet to hear anything negative about it (besides the guy with the beret who always says "details requested"). I'm just amazed by the storyline, the catchy and touching lines along with the performance by all the actors. I voted for a life-altering, not because I'm an otaku and want to change, but the show made me realize that anything can happen, if you want it to... There are many difficult choices in life and the decisions you make will open new paths good/bad, which is ultimately decided by you… and with great friends to guide you, you'll never go wrong.
ya know, i really didn't think i'd like this drama.. but it's actually one of my top favorites.
it's very clever and i LOVE little details - which this series is full of.
haha, i remember just cracking up the first time i heard the darth vader theme song for the character Jinkama (Shiraishi Miho). so awesome.

movie's released on DVD in Taiwan and i just happen to have a copy of it.
DVD specs?
- non anamorphic widescreen (1:85.1)
- Japanese dolby stereo 2.0
- trailers to Densha Otoko, Nana and etc
and that's pretty much it...
and i just finished watching the movie....
i can now join the rest of the people here and say that i liked the drama series more than the movie. i thought the movie was very boring. i dunno why....i liked Takayuki Yamada since the tv version of "Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai Wo Sakebu"" but i don't think he's right for the role of the train man. he's too good looking and i don't know if it's just me but you do see Itou Atsushi and Itou MIsaki after the end credits and the scene looks kinda different from the tv series. they got the drunkard from the movie and Takayuki Yamada was dressed differently. and Itou Atsushi wasn't stuttering.
does anyone have English subs for this movie so i can convert to divx and give this to a friend? the chinese subtitles were making dizzy. the grammar's too taiwanese for me.

completed the drama - it was awesome!
although most of its content was close to unbelievable, exaggeration probably. Why would any woman make it so obvious that she likes you, and still you don't have the courage to tell her, sif hold hands before you ell her u like her and ask her out . lol.
And Hermes character is just plain HOTNESS in the show, too hot for yamada to handle. I'll be waiting for the day where there are hot woman who are trully looking for honesty in a guy... only.

Oh, some good news for Densha fans!
I just got word from Viz that they're recently obtained the license to the Densha Otoko manga! I emailed them a few weeks back, suggesting they release the novel, and they told me they haven't obtained rights to it, but they did obtain the license to the manga!
I dunno about you, but I'm excited. ^^

Dear Marybeth,
Thank you very much for your inquiry and THANK YOU very much for your being a great fan of VIZ works!
Yes, we are trying to release popular Japanese novels based on manga/anime or vice versa.
We recnetly acquired a licence for "Densha Otoko" manga, but not for a novel at this moment.
We will take your opinion into consideration.
Thank you.

Which manga? There are four of them out there. I hope it's Hara Hidenori's version...that's probably the best one, and it's the most popular one. I would think Viz would have the license to that version. I guess a listing for it will show up on Amazon soon enough, knowing Viz.Schala wrote:Oh, some good news for Densha fans!

I've just finished watching the first ep and I think this is going to be an awesome drama! I can't wait to get home and watch the second ep, maybe I should skip out on work (work sucks)? Anyways, I think that there probably are some people that are that geeky, I think I like the series because I'm also very much into anime. Not as much as the guy in the drama but more than everyone I personally know, I don't think I'm a major geek though. I am into computers, anime, japanese culture and dramas (just recently), hmmm maybe I'm in denial. Can't wait to watch more of this though!!!
Hey everyone... just recently stumbled across this site and I suppose this will be my first post
I got into Japanese drama a while back with Good Luck!! and although I loved it, I found it difficult to get my hands on other drama episodes. Obviously there's not a big enough demographic on the regular torrent sites. But then my new girlfriend (who's Japanese) kept bugging me that she wanted to see Densha Otoko and, well, with necessity being the mother of invention, I decided to try my best at trying to find jdrama torrents. Needless to say, I found the best place!
Anyway, my girlfriend and I are working through Densha Otoko at the moment (going to watch the final couple of episodes together either tomorrow night or the night after) but I thought I would take the opportunity to share some photos with fellow Densha Otoko fans.
I regularly visit Tokyo for business and I pointed out to my girlfriend while watching Densha Otoko that many of the places I recognize. I've spend many months combined living out of a hotel in Shinjuku (the Hilton Tokyo) and know Shinjuku and most of Tokyo like the back of my hand (which surprised my girlfriend, who's from Osaka).
Anyway, I took some photos (photography is my hobby) of:
the LOVE sculpture (and you can faintly see the light tower behind it, this is where Yamada-san waits in the rain)
a ground view of Akihabara (the tallest building in the back right is where the first episode starts off, I'm pretty sure)
Oh and although not as important, a pic of Tokyo Big Sight
Hope you enjoy
Oh and PS - Densha Otoko is partly responsible for me and my girlfriend getting together Thus, I'm pretty sure it'll always be in my heart heh

But tell us how Densha Otoko helped you get together with your girlfriend? I'm just curious...
Well my girlfriend is Japanese and only recently made the move from Japan. She doesn't speak English very confidently and in an attempt to make the transition a little easier for her, I thought I'd break the ice by mixing a bit of column A with a bit of column B; Some nights I'd take her along to hang out with my English speaking friends and go see English movies, other nights I'd make her speak to me in Japanese and force me to respond in Japanese when we went out to dinner or had a quiet night in. Then I remembered I still had episodes of Good Luck!! and that she might feel a little more at home listening to Japanese/watching Japanese TV. She hadn't seen all the episodes so it made for a good enough excuse for us to stay in and snuggle up on the couch I should perhaps note that at this time, we were hanging out a lot but we still hadn't really addressed any feelings we might have had for each other heh. Call us shy, I guessaya wrote:AWESOME PICS! Thanks for sharing!thumpr wrote:Hey everyone... just recently stumbled across this site and I suppose this will be my first post

But tell us how Densha Otoko helped you get together with your girlfriend? I'm just curious...
By the time the final episode of Good Luck!! was upon us, we got to talking about other Japanese drama and it almost became a staple part of our diet; we'd always spend time with each other and many nights would end with us going back to my place and watching a couple more episodes of whatever drama we were currently watching
Anyway, one afternoon she asked me whether I'd seen Densha Otoko; I had heard of it only in name and had never read the book and didn't even really know what it was all about. She'd wanted to see it when it was on TV in Japan but never got around to seeing it. Thus I downloaded the episodes and in an obscure sort of way, it acted as a bit of a catalyst when it came to our feelings for each other. I guess she empathized with Aoyama-san a little with regards to being somewhat shy and reluctant to enter into a relationship for fear of getting hurt and in some obscure way I related a bit with Yamada-san with regards to just biting the bullet and chivalrously going after the girl I liked. Don't get me wrong, my girlfriend and I don't go together like chalk and cheese like Aoyama-san and Yamada-san do, nor am I an otaku by any stretch of the imagination But just the image of an unlikely couple that actually works out seemed to feed both our imaginations. Both her and I were a bit hesitant due to the culture difference (she's only been partially exposed to Western culture and my exposure has been predominantly work-related) and language barrier (I'm not fluent in Japanese and she's not fluent in English), but watching Densha Otoko seemed to make us warm up to the possibility that hey, sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and go for it no matter how awkward it might seem. So our first steps in the relationship were a bit stilted (not unlike Yamada-san's stuttering heh) but with a little TLC and honesty we've been able to start something pretty damn special
Oops, I seem to have gone on a lot longer than I expected. And just looking over my post, I'm a bit worried that I might not have even answered the original question heh.
I hope my post made at least a *little* sense

Oh and this is the best pic I could find out of my collection to give people an idea where the LOVE sculpture is in Shinjuku.
This is a view from my usual hotel suite at the Hilton Tokyo. You can't see the sculpture, but you can see the halo intersection at which it's located (the intersection about 1/3rd of the way up the photo). You can just faintly see the trees with the blue-lights which are also in the first picture I posted. Shinjuku-eki is in the background. It's about a 1 minute walk from the Hilton Tokyo and about a three-minute walk from Shinjuku-eki. Yodobashi camera is there, so I know the area very, very, very well

Yamada-san's excessive stuttering sorta makes me cringe from time to time, but overall it's sweet and you can't help but root for him hehaibakaneko wrote:I really hated it at first... can't stand it to be honest. but i stick with it cuz Shun, Hayami, and Maki is in there. hahahaha ... then after liek half of the show i got use to the main character.. i'm okay with it.

Oh and although not as important, a pic of Tokyo Big Sight
Hope you enjoy
Oh and PS - Densha Otoko is partly responsible for me and my girlfriend getting together Thus, I'm pretty sure it'll always be in my heart heh

I'm just sorry that it took me so long to find this forum and share the pics! 50 pages on the series before I even joined heh
As for Itoh... I have to admit that I said to my girlfriend at the start of the series that I thought Itoh was a bit too thin and not really my type but I have to admit that as the series progressed that I started to like her more and more. She definitely is my type when it comes to her character's personality though... I like the sweet, quiet type heh.
That's wonderful! I did admire Yamada-san's courage to act on something he wasn't comfortable or knowledgeable in... a trait which I completely lack. I hope you guys watch more dramas together for a long time!thumpr wrote:Well my girlfriend is Japanese and only recently made the move from Japan. Call us shy, I guess
Btw... I love the last pic you posted (the view from the Hilton Hotel). The lights were wonderfully captured.

wow this pictures nice! its like all empty too.thumpr wrote:Oh and this is the best pic I could find out of my collection to give people an idea where the LOVE sculpture is in Shinjuku.

I was just wondering... my girlfriend and I just finished watching episode 11  and I was wondering in which order to see the other two 'special' episodes. There's the NG Special and the other one titled "another finale SP"... I'm going to assume that the NG Special comes first and then "another finale SP"... mainly because they advertised the 30-minute encore at the end of episode 11 and although I haven't downloaded it yet, I have downloaded the "another finale SP", and that's much longer than 30 minutes.
Can anyone give me a rundown on these extra episodes? Did they air in the following weeks after episode 11? Did they air on the same channel?
Sorry about all the questions heh... I just want to make sure I don't miss anything and that I see the episodes in the correct order

Actuall you have it in reverse, he snaped the picture in slow speed, with the shutter open for a period of time.he snapshot the pic at a high speed, everything just blurs out and becomes a slick thin line so u can hardly see the traffic.
The area in the photo is probably the most boring part of Shinjuku there is at night, a bunch of high rises, hotels and the government office building.
Its a lot more exciting and colorful on the other side of Shinjuku Station.
wait would it be high speed, because he open the lens for long time which is what created the car lights in a "line". sorry I am novice at photography.avexdevil wrote:he snapshot the pic at a high speed, everything just blurs out and becomes a slick thin line so u can hardly see the traffic.
-don't you just love asian cities at night... so lively. Walk out at 2am, street is filled with people eating and stuff, lovely.
hey the alternative ending (or another finale as you call it) doesn't 'really' seem like an alternate ending as it suggests. Rather, it seems to extend on the storyline even more, concentrating a bit more on yamada's friends, who turns out to be another otoko who was encouraged by densha's experience, etc. And it tells one or two stories of the ppl who participated in densha's thread as well. So no, it's not really an alternate ending, so I believe you should watch episode 11 then the SP episode. Damn densha @ ending of SP, you will know what i'm talking abt soon enough ^_^. Oh NG is just a 8minute interview + some bloopers.thumpr wrote:I was just wondering... my girlfriend and I just finished watching episode 11  and I was wondering in which order to see the other two 'special' episodes. On the contrary, I don't think it's boring at all. I have had countless nights where I've just stayed up, watching Shinjuku stay alive all night There's a reason why I choose the same hotel suite every time I'm therespacecommand wrote:Actuall you have it in reverse, he snaped the picture in slow speed, with the shutter open for a period of time.he snapshot the pic at a high speed, everything just blurs out and becomes a slick thin line so u can hardly see the traffic.

Here's another photo... I don't know... I just love Tokyo
I know what you mean about East Shinjuku though... it is a lot more lively but it's a different atmosphere. It's full of shops and stores and if you include Kabukicho, there's also theaters and stripclubs Example - here's a pic overlooking Kabukicho:
So of course it will always be buzzing with movement and noise. But that's what makes East Shinjuku sparkle; even late at night, past midnight, there are always people working away in the office buildings, always cars zooming from hotel to hotel, everything still buzzing away heh.
Shibuya is probably the most lively, especially near Hachiko:
Oh and here's a tip: If you ever want a truly unforgettable solo Tokyo experience, grab yourself an mp3 player and walk around Shibuya past midnight on a Friday or Saturday night listening to the Blade Runner Soundtrack by Vangelis.
NO EXAGGERATION - You will feel like you've just fallen into your very own sci-fi/detective movie. Hauntingly beautiful and completely submersive. I walked around in the rain once and wow... it was just... it felt like I'd walked right into a chapter of Neuromancer. Just surreal... so surreal.
Oh I didn't think it was an alternate ending... I just assumed it was an extension, perhaps filling out some of the gaps in some of the storylines.avexdevil wrote:hey the alternative ending (or another finale as you call it) doesn't 'really' seem like an alternate ending as it suggests. All I was confused about was that I don't know which one is the "30 minute encore" that was advertised at the end of Episode 11
Oh and I apologize if some of the photos might seem washed out... I take photos in RAW and have to post-process them... I have an LCD screen so I don't have entirely accurate color and contrast rendition. If I had a normal CRT monitor, I could process them more accurately.

Nice shots man! I shoot DSLR in RAW also, I find that I have to use one of my old CRTs to get the most accurate colors during PP. Still have yet to invest in a Spyder... but I think I will soonthumpr wrote:Oh and I apologize if some of the photos might seem washed out... I take photos in RAW and have to post-process them...
