Tokyo Love Story

Orange Days is super but Love Gen is the best drama for me.

After reading some of the recommendations, I've realized most of Kimura Takuya's are mentioned. I LOVED pride and Engine is my favorite. I recommend these two. One is sporty and deals with this man's problems and team. One is family-orientated that makes u love kimura as a family man.

Shomuni series
Antique
Gokusen
Risou no kekkon (Ideal Marriage)
Suekko chounan ane sannin
Odoru Daisousassen series
Waterboys

Rules on how this list operates follow the list itself...

*MODERATORS - If its possible to move this post to the top of the topic, that would be great! But because I'm not a moderator, I cannot make updates unless the post is owned by me.

As of page 11 - skachild

All other dramas with four or less recommendations are being counted, but I won't display them here (it's LOOOOOOOONG). Once a drama gets its fifth recommendation, I'll add it to the list.

Reason for making this list: Expecting a visitor or member to browse through tens of pages of posts in order to get an idea what to download/watch is really bad. So for everyone's convenience I made this list to summarize the recommendations via a simple one-post recommendations list.

Members who already made recommendations (# in parenthesis is the # of posts made by the member):

Rules for your recommendations being counted on groink's list:

- I'll be updating the list whenever I feel like it. Could be monthly, weekly, daily, hourly...

- Do not change an existing or previous post. I will not look back beyond the point I last left off. Note the last post I read at the top of this post. If you would like to make more recommendations, create a new post.

- Be very clear on your recommendations. I'll be reading into the context of your post deciding whether or not you're actually making a recommendation.

- It doesn't matter how you name the drama. I'm quite familiar with the entire Japanese drama catalog, so I can figure out both the Romaji and English names and make the correct match. You can write the names using kana, but I can only read about 50 Kanji, and all hiragana/katakana.

Recommendations I didn't/will not use:

- Posts where the member mentioned he's seen xxxxxx, but really didn't clearly say he'd recommend it.

- Posts where the member was wishy-washy in the way he wrote his choices, i.e. he beat around the bush but didn't actually make a recommendation or made it clear they were recommendations.

- Posts that went along the line of "any drama starring xxxxx" or "any drama that are in the xxxxx genre". If the member does actually list dramas he specifically recommends, those dramas will count. However, if it's clear he's listing EVERY drama starring xxxxx, I won't count them.

- Posts that I see as spam. My list -- my interpretation of what's spam.

- Posts that talked bad about a drama. These didn't count against the drama.

- Posts where the member said he didn't finish the drama.

- Posts where he said "Yeah, I like everything member xxxxx liked!"

- Posts where a member pointed to a list posted outside of D-Addicts but no longer exists or can't be found. I'm not going to Google it or make a huge effort to correct the URL or such.

- An existing post changed by a member AFTER I already read it. Note the last post I read at the top of this post. If you post something AFTER the point where I last read, I'll count it, but I'll review your previous post so that you don't vote for the same drama twice.

- Posts where a member chooses between a limited list of dramas. These aren't recommendations - they're basicaly giving their opinion on the list.

- Posts where a member is helping another member identify a certain drama or dramas starring xxxxx.

I recommend the following:

1. Summer Snow - great acting from tsuyoshi plus a memorable ending.
2. Densha Otoko - funny drama although it was somewhat unbelievable at times with Densha's acting. But overall, an enjoyable watch.
3. Love Generation - great chemistry between the two leads. Again, a must-watch.

The funniest drama I've seen is Gokusen but the others that were listed are also really great. I think for the most part, you're going to get a mix of comedy and seriousness in Jdorama. Hero is definitely a good choice as well.

While I prefer Jdorama, K-drama has a lot of good comedies under it's belt as well.

I've seen alot of Japanese shows, but nothing can compare to Akimahende.
http://www.henshin-tigers.net/seriesinfo.php?id=131

Nishimura Masahiko and Uchida Yuki's relationship is increddible funny. Expecially the "Titanic scene". It's something you'll never forget.

I also recommend Stand Up!

Majo No Jouken (Recomendations)

Post by loveme23 » Oct 5th, '05, 05:10

Hi everyone, after watching Majo no jouken (Forbidden Love) I thought it was a great series and interesting. I was wondering is there any other drama that are like this. You know the one that have the same kind of theme, "Forbidden Love" (Mom & son, sister & brother, cousin & cousin, father & daughter...) I know this doesn't sound right. But I'm really interested in these kind of stories, because it's not your everyday drama. Anyhow if anyone know of any drama that are like these please reply. Thank you very much for your time.

Koukou Kyoushi. Another one about a student and teacher. The 2003 version stars Aya Ueto. <3

There's also Strawberry on the Shortcake, it's sort of forbidden, but not as forbidden, since it's about a guy who's in love with his sister, but they're not related by blood, so I'm not sure if it counts or not. ^^0 But there's a teacher/student relationship involving 2 other characters in this drama too. (Seems to be popular, eh?)

I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of (have time to think of) for now. ^^0

I know 2 k-dramas that have the teacher/student love theme. Romance and Loveholic. I'm sure there's more. :)

The "mom/son" and "father/daughter" really freaked me out. -_-

Thank you very much for all your reply, I'll find & watch all those that you have recommend. As for the father/daughter, mother/son.... thing it wasn't that I like those type of thing, they are just example of the theme, which is "Forbidden Love" Take "Kimi wa Petto" for example, it kind of lay under this catergory, it's a love story about a 20 somewhat year old woman and a high school kids. It doesn't really have to be teacher & student. Anyhow thank you very much for all your recommendation.

Mmm...If you mean you're looking for unconventional love stories, a couple others I'd suggest would be Kimi ga oshietekureta koto, Pure, and Koibumi.

Kimi ga oshietekureta koto and Pure involve a person with a mental disability. Kimi ga also has the added level of doctors becoming involved with their patients.

Koibumi is about a man who essentially abandons his wife and child, who he still loves, to be with an old girlfriend who has a terminal illness.

And there's this other one that's at the back of my mind about two couples who switch spouses or something like that...I never saw it though, and the name escapes me at the moment...

Wow.. there are many dramas that i haven't watched, but then again, how can people watch so many dramas....

I wondered who are THE Otaku in this forums... I can only watch 1 drama per couple weeks or so....

My favorite one is Summer Snow, i guess just because it had the most memorable ending to it and until this day, i am still stuck with it. :D

I think you should try watching Loveholic (I think someone already mentioned it). When I watched it, it reminded me so much of Majou no Jouken. Another one is Autumn Story (Kdrama). It's about a guy who finds out his sister is not really his sister, then when they get older (and after they are seperated for some time), they fall in love when they meet again. It's a real tearjerker like Majou no Jouken.

Funniest J-Drama by nikoru

Post by nikoru » Oct 7th, '05, 20:53

I'm not a Jdrama person nowadays but back in the day I certainly was - Because the dramas were alot funnier!

Have you seen...?

1. Shiratori Reiko de gozaimasu! -f-ing hilarious -concept, story, acting, direction.
2. Houkago - brilliant story, very entertaining!!!
3. Jaja uma narashi
4. Gakkou e ikkou
5. Toumei ningen - OMG this was boss! Katori Sjingo plays the invisible man.
6. Shomuni - gets a bit repetitive after a while though
7. iii hito

Slightly more serious but still a must see for Jdrama fans. (Quite a pillar in Jdrama history so you can't call yourself a true fan until you have atleast seen these classics). (Just for the record I havn't really)
1. Hitostu no Yane no shita
2. Sono toki haatowa nusumareta
3. Tokyo Love Story
4. Long Vacation
5. 101 kaime no puropozu (can't ignore the status of this one in Japan)
6. Virgin Road

And the only one drama I actually think about from time to time. I don't know why, its probably not that good but it had an impact on me when I watched the repeats when I was 10. 'Koi no paradise'.

Can't be cheeeeeesed.

I wondered who are THE Otaku in this forums... I can only watch 1 drama per couple weeks or so....

My favorite one is Summer Snow, i guess just because it had the most memorable ending to it and until this day, i am still stuck with it. :D

Currently watching: Slow Dance, Eps 10 now, almost done!

Edit this it has a spoiler :O :O :O :O :O :O :O

Umm..what do you guys recommend for someone who just finished watching Densha Otoko? I'm currently watching Slow Dance and want to get into more J-doramas. I've seen a few episodes of Gokusen as well. Is that any good?

Gokusen is great, very funny. I personally love Trick, Im kind of stuck as what to watch next so Im rewatching it and it's still as funny the second time around, everytime I watch a drama I think wow that was great it's my favourite, but Trick has it all IMO, comedy, drama and oh so spooky as I read somewhere else, it's a cross between The X-Files and Scooby-Doo.

Most of them rely on www.jdorama.com since they have a database of dramas with dates on them. You should check it out :-)

Suggestions for new drama

Post by Bluemage » Oct 20th, '05, 04:32

I am looking to watch another japanese drama series. I am almost done with Densha Otoko, and I really must say that it was really fun to watch. I loved the characters, storyline, music, and the ability to relate to Densha on some levels. I wouldn't say I am an otaku, but I do like anime, video games, and etc..
Could you nice people point me in the direction of your favorite series? I'd prefer not to pay for any just yet, so if there are torrents to your fav. drama that would be even better. On a side not, I'm really not looking for a show like Densha Otoko. I'd just like to try out maybe a different one. I don't know what to say, lol..
Thanks alot!

It would be nice if D-Addicts was the reverse - each member have his/her own set of topics. But no, it isn't designed that way, therefore we have to share the topics. Hence, the thread I just mentioned.

Have fun watching future dramas!
