Help re .ass subs and JDownloader

Post by Chrisandthemum » Sep 6th, '24, 09:56

Hey, sorry if this isn't allowed, i really don't understand any of this. I have a chronic disability which gives me quite bad brain fog and has also reduced my intellectual capacity quite substantially, on top of already being someone who isn't good at this kind of thing. If this is better posted elsewhere please let me know. I've read the FAQs but I can't really understand them.

Basically I'm trying to watch a specific show (Wakakozake Hida Brewery Tour Special) and have found a download for some .ass subtitles on this forum, but i don't really understand how they work or how to find the video of the show which i guess I add them to?

I've downloaded VLC media player which i think can be used to add the .ASS subtitles to once I've found the video file of the episode. I've also downloaded JDownloader 2 to find the file but have no idea how this works and can't seem to find anything that explains it as simply as I need. I also have 7-zip as I think I saw somewhere that I'd likely need to unzip the file after downloading which makes sense considering the size.

I'm just trying to do a nice surprise for my partner who has taken care of me since I've become disabled and doesn't get pampered enough because of it. We love Wakakozake but she doesn't speak Japanese and we've watched all the other subbed seasons together, and I don't think she even knows these specials exist, so I'm really keen to figure this out since the subs exist. I don't need to necessarily understand what I'm doing as along as it works to be honest.

Thank you so much for your patience, any at all help is really appreciated. I'm new here but will do my best to give back to the community, maybe by eventually translating stuff, although the going may be extremely slow.

Hello and welcome! Let's start with the first part.
If you have subtitles in ASS or SRT format, and the video they sync to.
On this forum, it is usually stated in the first post which videos the subtitles sync to.

To Watch
1. Place the subtitles and videos in the same folder.
2. Make sure the subtitles has the exact same name as the corresponding video, otherwise the subtitles won't display.
3. Open with your media player and enjoy.

7-Zip Is used to unpack an archive containing several files.

JDownloader Is a download manager used to download files, often from various file hosts, but other websites as well.

qBittorent Is an app used to download videos from open (Nyaa) or private (AvistaZ, JPTVClub etc) trackers.

Hope this answered your questions.

Hi Keiko! Thanks for clarifying things!

So i don't have the video the subtitles sync to and don't really know how to go about finding it. As far as I can tell the original post hasn't got it, but I also don't know what I'm looking for. The original post is viewtopic.php?t=166318

And would this mean I need to download qBittorent as well? Sorry, I honestly don't understand your decriptions of that and JDownloader. So they arent the same thing?

Thank you again!

@Chrisandthemum Yes, download and install qBittorent.
Check the options, in case you want to make some changes, but I don't think you have to.

After that, go here.

Code: Select all

https://nyaa.si/user/MagicStar-subs?f=0&c=0_0&q=wakako+hida
Click the magnet link (U-shape), and the app will automatically open.

D-Addicts does not directly host videos, only subtitles. You will have to find and download the videos that the subtitles sync to. Usually it is stated in the first post of a topic where the videos can be found.

See Where to Find Dramas and Subtitles for some sources.

You can download things from Nyaa when someone is "Seeding"
Meaning, as long as there is not a 0 by the "Up Arrow".
Seeders are the number of people sharing something, leechers the number downloading.
If no one is seeding, then you can make a seed request here

Name the topic: [Seed Req] Name of Drama

Thank you so much! You helped me figure it out and I've got it working! I really, really appreciate the help, honestly there's no way I could've figured it out on my own. And the fact that I managed to do it without draining too much energy as well. Thank you so much. I'm really excited to surprise my partner with this. Thank you
