Oshin classic japanese dorama

Post by kaname » Apr 4th, '06, 12:12

Well I am considering posting (with eng subs if i can learn how) the entire series of Oshin. Is there interest in this? If there is I will be visiting the forums that offer assistance in learning how to sub and post(basically i've been a leech dl'ng all the hard work of others for my own enjoyment so i thought i might TRY to give back). I hope to see enough positive feedback to get me moving on this cuz its a VERY large project.

definitely worth a try. you may not see too many responses here in this thread, but i'm very certain you will get a lot of leechers when you release. i'm pretty sure the word will spread like wildfire.

if you have the entire series, i would suggest batching it into manageable torrents. like 10 eps at a time or something? wasn't the entire series like 300+ eps?

yeah there were quite a few years of episodes actually, but i am now leaning towards a smaller project as a start-up/learning process. i was also advised that quite a few people are selling this on e-bay now and i'm not so sure i want to do all that work just to see it sold. i was advised that a lot of people probably wouldnt actually watch it as it is more of a "trophy" for some people to have. i understand that a lot of older doramas that have been posted havent been that well received...sad really that people sell them at all and that the older ones are underappreciated.

I remember a dubbed version of Oshin being shown in my country many years ago. I liked it a lot, even though I was only 5 then, so I would really love to see it again.

Wow, Oshin. I guess it was really popular, even outside Japan. In Indonesia, the tv aired like everyday, but I hardly remember it, since I was still in elementary school. But IT WAS REALLY POPULAR in Indonesia.

Right now? I'm not sure if I want to watch it, since it's a very long drama and also, time has changed. But if someone upload it with english sub, no doubtI will download it.

I salute you if you upload oshin. I must say... the show was aired almost half of my chilhood (yeah it was that long). In fact my mum used to tape it but on VHS and the tapes already collected fungi by now. The one that I saw was a dubbed into Malay version so probably I'd be interested to watch it with the original audio

As much as I want to see Oshin (and have no way of seeing it in its entirety or at all probably), if this is done even in LQ w/ English subs, it would be bootlegged HARDCORE. This series is probably at least 75% of the classic/older jdrama collectors' holy grail. Then 20-25% remaining probably never even heard of it :lol Many are willing to pay hundreds and probably more for a complete copy, no matter the quality, especially if it has English subs. Ebayers would have a field day, er, field YEAR. It used to be almost impossible to get on VCD or raw, just a couple years ago.

Like with run-of-the-mill stuff, there's really not much that can be done to prevent it. I've gotten things years back from trading that *were* uncommon....after trying to trade carefully and asking other traders to do so too, I still eventually saw every title on Ebay, soon to be on every other trader and seller's list. It'll still get copied and sold like everything else. I believe now that I probably have nothing that nobody else has. If I got my hands on something like Oshin today, I'd probably hoard it and only show it to good friends. I doubt I'd ever copy it. :alcoholic:

I can *so* picture someone on Ebay trying to sell Oshin with a high reserve :lol Oh well, call me a pessimist. XD

Definitely yes!! I've heard a lot of good things about this drama! I have the entire drama, which is 297 episodes but no English subtitles to go along so it's a shame!

To those who have watched Oshin already... Please explain why Oshin married to Ryuzo? Does she love him? or just because she wants change?... I'm watching on youtube with chinese dub and no english sub... So practically I don't understand much... But I watch it anyway...

Best drama ever.... the young Oshin is magnificent... I've never cried so much from watching any drama.... just by looking at her carries the baby on her back, brings tears to my eyes.

For those who are interested in these jdrama. You could ask Ethlenn. She probably still has these drama. She posted these drama several years ago. They are in Matroska format (MKV) with japanese audio and Chinese, Japanese Subtitles with a total of 297 episodes. Each episode are 15 minutes long. The last time she posted was in Megaupload. You could ask her if she could re-upload the drama in torrents. Good Luck!

Yes, I would be very very grateful to see Oshin with subtitles.

I've only found the first 22 episodes. Oshin re inds me of the dramas I saw on tv when I l was in Japan in the 1970's and especiallyof one wonderful Meiji-epoch drama (title??) whose heroine was Aki-san.

I really would like to watch all eps again from very beginning. It's been over 20 years since I saw it for the first time. This drama has a special place in my heart.

Are the Chinese-subs in hard/soft format?

Sander mentioned about Japanese subtitles earlier, any direction or links where I may find them would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I think the CHN-JPN are with hardsubbed Chinese subtitles (the files in RMVB format).
I'm trying to download the RAWs (in MKV format) 640x480 from Perfect Dark, but I can't find all the episodes.
(The bad thing is PD has uses a "unity" (cache) folder that can get up to the size of 40GB, I'm up at 10GB now. -_-

Hopefully, karla_gemi still have the soft subs and able to upload them later.

As for the RAWs, i don't have all the episodes either.
It will take many months and trips to the video rental shop, get them video capture to PC and encode to mp4 or avi format.

IF I have the dough, sure wouldn't mind buying it from these chaps.

I'm hoping to sub oshin based on the local dub version that's going to air soon. I know it isn't much but it's better than nothing imo.Oshin is going to air starting from 25th of May. It will be telecast five days every week (Monday to Friday) from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. That's one hour of air time. Either they're going to bundle 4, 15min oshin episodes into one ep or bundle 2 oshin episodes into one episode plus 30mins for ads. Can't be sure until it airs. Either way all the oshin eps will be telecast in 3 months or in 7 months.

Code: Select all

http://www.dailynews.lk/2012/05/16/fea24.asp
I've downloaded about 60 episodes from the working MF links of karla_gemi's thread.

Code: Select all

http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_57948_0.htm
And Keiko1981 was kind enough to download the raws for the first 16 episodes and share the links with me. I'll definitely go through this project from beginning to end. But to do that I need the raws. Where can I make a thread requesting raws?

Provided the rental shop have the DVD version, then it can be directly DVD rip. Those I'd looked around at the rental shop are VHS tapes (31 altogether), and video rip or capture to PC would be necessary.

The raw are of the first few episodes.

I have yet to see any clean-cut raws available. Most of them have the broadcasting station logo on it or TV captures with foreign-language-dubbing.

Are you planning to make English-subtitles from the Sinhala-dubbed version? :blink

I think "sudeshsookdeo" (Youtube site user) records the English-dubbed version and post them on Youtube.
**Watch live-stream of Oshin (English dubbed) on Tuesdays 4;45pm Trinidad time (GMT-4;00) at: http://www.ctntworld.com/livestream/

Another Youtube site user "oshinseries2" makes the English subtitles using "sudeshsookdeo" upload which are English-dubbed version, and continued from Episode 15 to Episode 58 (still on-going).

This is a clean cut version.

Yes, that's what I'm planning to do, I know they might not be completely accurate as it's a dubbed version. Dubbed versions are almost always different no matter the language. At least it will be a base for someone who knows Japanese can work on. They'll have to translate and edit but the timing would already be done. Like I said they're going to broadcast 2 or 4 episodes bundled together on every weekday. So the series will end much quicker. As far I know the dub was pretty faithful to the original with minor changes.

Yeah, I've read and check-out this thread, but most DDL links like MU (already dead?) or MF, they don't work at my end. :-(

I see. If it's the subs-timing you're planning to provide or make, perhaps it might be better to check with karla_gemi whether the CHN/JPN subtitles file are still available. I'm waiting for karla_gemi reply.... (*fingers crossed*)

Try copy pasting the MF links to the address bar.
I'm going to sub the files not just the timing. If someone want to edit those subs and make a real translation of the dialogues they're more than welcome to do so. I contacted karla_gemi via her groups blog. She said she'll upload the files but I'll have to wait until late june. If she does upload the files I'll re time the subs to match the video.

The complete batch posted here on D-A with the videos in RMVB format has hardsubbed Chinese subtitles.

Looks like the same batch from emule. Thanks, anyway. :-)

BTW, are the raws from PD (mkv) different from those posted by karla_gemi (mkv)?

Do they have dual audio with embedded dual subtitles?

The problem lies with the ISP at my end, unfortunately.

That may be an interesting study (in English) for me. Having read a couple of English-subs version so far, I shall look-out for your Sinhala-dubbed to English-subs version later :D

Okie, late June is alright. No hurry. :-)

After some searching, managed to find the CH soft-subs from ep.01-106 in srt format. If you or anyone needs it, just let me know.

Hmmm... these batch may be from the CS capture during the NHK re-runs.

I suppose the resolution and audio are of a better quality compared to the dual audio?

Can you send it to me please? It'll help to produce more accurate subs. (I think :blink Google translate) I can compare them to the dubbed dialogues.

Example of a original name:
file (国内ドラマ) おしん 第167話~第174話 (640x480 x264 AAC)(CS放送).mkv

Looks like that, don't know about the audio though.

Audio yes, but I think the video of karla_gemi's files are better because of the aspect ratio. Otherwise they're the same.

Chinese subtitles for Oshin (ep.0-106) in srt format. Found them at shooters.
http://shooter.cn/search/Sub:%E3%81%8A% ... %E3%82%93/

Just re-name the files and use Subtitle Workshop to open it.

I doubt machine translated stuff can do a better job than human. :lol
Anyway, have fun subbing.
