Oh, MisS Lonliah, glad you like the drama. Our crazy bunch is completely addicted to it^^
Well, me not liking JYJ album too, but what can I do? Buy a ticket to Korea to get their autographes I guess... There is no going back together, which is good, cause... well, you can keep Yunho, Chaos chan^^
At least SM Ent (*curse*curse*) withdrew the claim for broadcast stations.
Link to Melon Charts 2010-12-18. Not usual 100 but 156 tracks^^
Happy listening, and below are tracks names, in Korean though.

Loads of them, my dear. And even I was born as a pure rocker girl, when I grew up I decided to listen to (almost) everything that appeals to me.
So my musical taste (not only in Ksection) varies from musical performances on stage, via classical/traditional songs to 2NE1.
Yiruma, Deli Spice, Lee Seungyeol, Lee Seouncheol, Buhwal, DBSK, Hong Kwangho, Tearliner, ZIA... oh, you don't wanna hear the whole list. I'm spamming my blog with those.

I can add Crash, Crying Nut, Moon Hee Jun(not sure, but I remember that he was quite rock-ish) and Trax, PIA too. If reffer to those who play guitars etc themselves then CN Blue, FT Island too.esmer86 wrote:Damn Ethleen! You just gave me some homework! Now I have to go to YouTube and do some searching! Im kinda new to Korean music but what I do LOVE is Big Bang and 2NE1. Anything to do with Hip-Hop and rock. I do wonder how the rock world is in Korea?! Any good rockers?
As for hip-hop and rap -> Outsider, Supreme Team, T.O.P., G-Dragon(both from big bang), Kongmyeongjeongdae(I just romanized, not sure what it means).
If you like 2NE1, then you can try 4minute, f(x), After School.
For about last 3 days I've been hooked on to one quite old but good song.
Ok, I feel like giving out utube links with some good songs so fasten your seatbelts, ladies(and gentleman of course).
From oldschool kpop :
The link I posted above.
Quite epic but considering that this song is nearly 10 years old... : H.O.T - We are the future |
I totally love this song but on this performance they lip-sync : Shinhwa - Your man |
Shinhwa - Perfect Man |
Shinhwa - Throw My First |
P.s. - there are few more from Shinhwa but not gonna post them all but only name them - Never Can Rewind, Wedding, Brand New.
G.O.D. - Friday Night |
G.O.D. - 바보(translation - fool but mostly it's just known as 바보) |
P.s. - Yes, again there are few more - Crime, Sadness, I need you.
From Oldscholl kpop I think that's it. Now, from more recent past(generally songs I like and consider good).
First kpop song that I desperately loved(and liked, btw I still love it) : 2PM - Again And Again |
First song that I romanized for 한굴 learning purposes(about year ago) : 2PM - I Hate You |
P.s. - of course there are more - 기다리다 지친다(tired of waiting), Without U, Hearbeat, 너에게 미쳤었다.
Big bang was the first korean group I heard and listened to a little bit but I like this song the most : Big Bang - 하루하루 |
Big Bang - Lies |
P.s. - there are more - Tell Me Goodbye, She Can't Get Enough, Baby Baby, Always, La-La-La, Gara gara Go, Love Club, 멍청한 사랑.
I think my first this-kind of song that I loved : December - Learned My Lesson In Love |
I knew him even before 2PM : Outsider - Loner |
Outsider - Like A man |
P.s. - Acquaintance is good too.
As Last.fm says - #1 Track(overall) : DBSK - Wrong Number |
P.s. - As for DBSK, I like Mirotic, Purple Line, The Way U Are, "O".
I'll take a new song for example : 2AM - With Or Without You |
P.s. - I liked Confession To A Friend, Even If I Die, I Can't Let You Go, I Did Wrong, 사랑한단 말 못해.(Not a fan of 미친 듯이 or 전활 받지 않는 너에게)
I'm even a Fanboy now : Rainbow - Mach |
Rainbow - A |
P.s. - I don't know why but I like all of their songs, every one of them but the most I love those 2
Beast - Shock |
P.s. - Mystery, Bad Girl, 슴, Easy
I love these girls as much as Rainbow, but discovered them about the same time as Big Bang(even before 2PM) : Kara - Mister |
Kara - Wanna |
Kara - Lupin |
Kara - Jumping |
Kara - Umbrella |
MBLAQ - Y |
P.s. - Oh Yeah is lovely too!
F.Cuz - Midnight Sun |
P.s. - I liked No One, too.
One of those most-loved songs(like Wrong Number and Again and again) : Rain - Bad Guy |
P.s. - Rainism, 나에게 너는, Love Song, It's Raining, Touch Ya.
Taeyang - Just A Feeling |
P.s. - Wedding Dress, Where U At, I'll Be There.
T-ara - Lies |
P.s. - Crazy Because Of you, Bo Beep Bo Beep, I'm Really Hurt and both new songs.
Supernova and T-ara - Time To Love |
I'm just fascineted by his voice : Chung Lim - Face |
4minute - Hot Issue |
P.s. - I liked I My Me Mine and Superstar too.
Few more which I am too lazy to get youtube links for :
Homme - 밥만 잘 먹더라 ---------------- loved the part in Secret Garden where the guy mentioned it, if anyone has seen it.
SNSD - Gee, Genie, Hoot, Wake Up
Baek Ji Young - My Ear's Candy
PSY - Right Now
Nine Muses - Ladies, No Playboy ---- by the way, No Playboy is still only MV I consider as sexy, many have tried, pretty much all of them - failed. IMHO.
Gain - 돌이킬 수 없는
ZE:A - All Day Long
U-Kiss - 뭐라고, 시끄러!!
Teen Top - Clap ---------------- this should be up there with MV but I'm getting even lazier
Super Junior - Sorry, Sorry, Bonamana ------------------- this is in right place even though I like Sorry Sorry quite a lot.
SS501 - Love Ya -------------------------- not a fan of Love Like This, which was their Hit song.
Sistar - Push Push, 가식걸 ---------------------------hated Push Push at first, but then end up liking it
SHINee - Juliette, Ring Ding Dong, Obsession, Lucifer
In big - that's it. I've probably forgotten something anyways.
AND YES - KARA DESERVED TO GET YOUTUBE LINKS FOR EVERY SONG. They are just sooo lovely.
If you want, then you can check out my Last.fm profile -

Good thing that Ethlenn already knows that I like to write long, long, very long posts. But there is nothing much to read, it looks quite big because of the spaces.
P.s. - ****, I think that I wrote way too much.[/b]
@arakira- i did just a quick search on YT of the bands you listed and I loved all of them. I'll look into it more this weekend but I also found 뷰렛(Biuret) and Vanilla Unity which were really good as well.
@ Neliets- I've seen only a couple of episodes of MCountdown. I know there is more but I just havent had the time to download them and watch it. I some times use am-addiction but the more links the better. thanks! I still gotta look into the list you posted! Im gonna be busy this weekend

http://www.kpopella.com/ <- pretty much everything, but everything is done through Megaupload.
http://pikeyenny.wordpress.com/ <- Only English subbed stuff is published here. Youtube links, Mediafire links and Megaupload. There are quite a lot there and quite fast.
http://weeklykpop.wordpress.com/ <- Unsubbed stuff, quite a lot, I'd say that everything. Visit this if you are interested in watching everything online, not download.
http://kpopflash.net/ <- they stream M Countdown, Music Core, Music Bank and Inkigayo every week, but check out the time difference, because it's Live.
As for music download links - http://www.ihoneyjoo.com/ <- they have a lot but not everything.
Anyhow, yesterday while watching 2009 MBC Gayo Daejun, I found a song from Super Junior that is good. Most of their songs are just catchy but this one is indeed good. Check out below.
I have no other place to talk about music... I could make a blog but no one will read it anyways ;DEthlenn wrote:Good to see Neliets so active here^^ Thanks for those links,
And Huckleberry Finn and Broccoli are great indeed.
You may want to check also Humming Urban Stereo (indie) or Loveholic, and their later project: Loveholics.
This is how my desktop looks like, yesterday I made little changes, felt like singing along(THE RIGHT WAY) -
Maybe later... when I will have something to write about except repairing my 26 years old car ;D
By the way - http://www.allkpop.com/2011/01/mblaq-un ... eo-for-cry

DBSK - Keep Your Head Down
I'm just wondering, since the Korean title for it is "Whe" (means: "why"), how come English title is... well, who would notice a song titled "Why", ok, I got it.
Yes, Korean pop has so much to offer, I'm not biased.
OK, maybe I don't distinguish other boy groups that much, and girl groups (apart from 2NE1) are exactly the same for me, but still, it's a nice journey!
And said that me, a person who grew up listening to Queen...

and I agree 2NE1 only girls group have good voices and songs
To be honest, there are quite a lot and 2NE1 is not included. Sorry. Voices my be considerably good but... songs? No way! Most of them are just bizzare and catchy. And those two don't make a song good.
As for girl groups - mostly they are meant for looks and after that we can talk about voice. And voice is something that you can train, if you're hard-working then that is no problem for you.(yes, I have the experience to say that)
I have to admit - Park Bom's voice is quite good but sometimes it just gets annoying. If they would dress better... Park Bom is always in very, very short dress, others - just random clothes they could find(it seems so).
I am not an Anti. I even liked the song Can't no body, at least a part of it, and Go away.
I'm eternal Rainbow and Kara fan, so be careful. You can count T-ara in too, even though their new song kinda fails a bit but Lies and TTL makes up for it.
Out of nowhere I remembered this performance, which I loved.
Aww, those legs... are calling for me...don't you think?
Not really a big fan of SNSD but... I wish I had SNSD just like SME ;D
oh, I'll tell you how it went with that Latvian guy who was interested in Korean stuff. Ok, I gave him a bit, he responded and gave me some Chinese and Japanese songs that he liked. As some of you may already know, I can't stand Chinese language. I just feel like punching myself in face and stuff like that. Ok, I tried to listen to his songs and you know - I thought that I listen to bizarre stuff but... he listens to a bit more bizarre. Slow Chinese songs(and slow Japanese) and few quite traditional(like Trot for us). But in every song he gave me a girl was singing. So I replied back and gave him some of our girl stuff. I didn't advertise my dear Rainbow or T-ara(I gave him Kara's song) but gave him Loveholic, Davichi, Baek Ji Young, SNSD - Gee to laugh at and few more I can't recall.
Ok, I worked out quite a lot today, I'm a bit tired and gonna end this with this song, because I have to get up early tomorrow so I can get a ride to gym for a work out.
Well, everyone has one's own opinion. I can't stand SNSD, After School and so on.
And catchy and bizarre make if not a good song than memorable one. And this is all those groups need.
And I can't agree on the fact that you can train your voice. You can train it under one condition - you can already repeat the sounds, that is - you have basic singing skills. If you have wooden ear, no one, even Freddie Mercury wouldn't be able to turn one into a singer. If you can't sing, that's the end, you just can't. Because singing is not also making sounds, but also hearing sounds. For me, most of girl groups can't sing. And singing clearly on the studio albums and hitting the right notes on the concert is not a big achievement. Every under big companies can do that. They are trained.
There has to be more into it. This is why most of those girl bands fail in ballad songs or I'm not brave enough to find any acapella songs (they have any?). Because when you sing without heavy musical beat in the background - you have to create the music with your own voice. And that's a gift. That's a talent.
For girls it's BOA who can sing, in my opinion.
But as always, we agree, we disagree. Normal stuff.

Think I'll have a word re groups. I do not like Korean girl groups. Mostly don't sing well and mostly wear atrocious or skimpy costumes. I watch them sometimes just because they are there on a show but do they know that they are looking like strippers?? All they need at times is a pole. Not being catty or prim, but it is not attractive to see young girls behaving like low class Las Vegas backoom dancers.Movements are a bit vulgar at times.Just my opinion.
Now the boy groups are more interesting. Many have good voices and they all obviously have to practise their dance/gymnastic moves. I love 2AM because they can really sing. They all have good natural voices but at the same time they blend together so well.
I love SHINee. How do they move so well..practice of course, and the songs are catchy and have a good bounce. They don't overdo the rap either.
I like 2PM. I am always looking for Nichkun but he keeps in the background and also keeps changing his hair colour. Very distracting. They also have a good rhythm and are so athletic. Don't know if it can all be called dancing but it looks good.
I do like Clazzique and Alex. also Alex alone is dreamy time. Love his album 'My Vintage Romance' Sigh ..He writes the best lyrics.
I really like Ahn Jae Wook. He has lots of albums. Don't know why he stopped singing lately.
I could go on...

I don't really think you can build a singer if they can't hear that they have no ear for the notes. I mean... yes if someone can hear the music and know when they are in tune, then their voice can be trained so they can sing with a group or choir and possibly alone.
Some people have perfect pitch and they always sing the exact 'middle' of the note being played. Ask them for a middle 'C' and they can give it to you right away. That is a born with talent. Others ...mostly the 'crooner' type, can aim for the note and approach it from below or from above and land in tune but they have to really practice to sing in tune.
I think that only people like classical or opera singers have the voice already and they can be trained how to produce their best voice.
I used to sing in a group and harmonising was fun as long as you could hear the melody in your own head to start with. Now of course, I can't even croak like a frog. If you don't use your vocal chords they get slack and that is the end of singing.
I still think many of the Korean girl groups don't sing they SHOUT!

Peggy, just before I go to sleep, I have to agree with everything you wrote!
That was exactly my point (distorted by a bit of gin today, ekhem), both about the singing (and training of the existent voice) and dancing. I wanted to add, but forgot somehow, one question - have you noticed the angle from which all SNSD's MVs are filmed? I call it: "knee perspective", because directors and everyone in their agency know their strong points the best. And it's not the voice.
We back again to kpop...
And it's not like all kpop stars sing bad, and all indie bands sing good.
It depends on individual talents.
This is why I also like SHINee (from the younger generation), and I still like DBSK, and I think there is no boy group that can be on the same level. Sorry. 2AM, yes, they can sing, true.
Oh, and there is Seven too.

It's tough to dislike any performer really because you know that the Korean groups really work hard for a long time before they make a debut. I read recently that Jo Kwon, the lead singer of 2AM, has been working for over eight years and last year was the bigbreak time, so it's good that all that hard work has ended up with good things for him and the group. I think he is 22 years old. they do dedicate themselves to get to their goal.
My opinion is that the Korean pop music industry is in the business of produces catchy jingles rather than 'epic' songs. Like the music you hear in commercials, it gets stuck in your head but forgettable. Sometimes it feels like people try to over analyze these songs.
There seems to be a double standard in this thread: girl groups = bad, boy groups = good. Frankly, I think both are in the same boats. However, it isn't surprising because women are usually the harshest critics of anything girl groups wear.

No, I don't care what girl groups wear, seriously, because my player is only mp3 player, I don't watch videos on it. But I do notice that. I may like it or not, but not comment until they look too promiscuous as for me. I'm not a teenager to comment on skirts and leggins.
And you missed something, we said that bad and good bands are on both sides, not just on one of them. Seriously, I can't stand both groups, I have at most 2 I can listen their one or two songs and 1 that I'm a fan of. Bias? I don't think so.
I'm open for anything that catches my attention. Kpop, rock, indie alike.
Without punk, ok.

Too much to quote...
To start with - musical hearing(I don't know how it's called in English, I just translate from Latvian) is not a talent, most people have it, many even don't know it. I'd say that everyone who even thinks about going to an audition, has it. And it is certain that everyone who gets a contract have it. And there is absolute hearing too(also translated from Latvian), that's a talent. It's like that - you ask a person with that kind of talent to give you a note "la", for example, and he can easily sing the note for you.
Generally everyone who can get to trainie status, can train their voice. That's a fact - get over it. As Peggy already mentioned, if you stop, then it gets pretty bad and you need to start to train again, pretty much, but it's not the end.
Acapella songs are little bit harder but not as hard as you may think. I've sang a lot of them, nothing you can't get used to. Ok, solo acapella song may be quite difficult but without anyone to sing with, no one will notice that you don't get on a right note sometimes.
And it's not that those girls can't sing, it's just that they don't get songs where they could show-off.
I don't like SNSD too. I just admire something that they are good of - looking good, not the music. But Rainbow can sing(most of them), they may not be too popular on TV but they are on radio, where they sing and quite a lot, I've heard many cover versions and stuff from then(mostly the vocalist HyunYoung) and they know their business.
Girl group stage outfits... yep, there I can agree - they try too hard to be naked. I am a guy and I think that their efforts to try to be sexy`er are just... pointless? You can call me gay but I don't find any of it sexy. 0 emotions. I'm more excited to see cute concept than sexy.
I'm not trying to hurt anyone but you can't really go and point fingers and say that they can't sing. You need to be by piano and get the person to sing for you, even then you need to be quite educated to know if they can or can't sing. And it's quite wrong and dumb to make some kind of statement based on TV.
And you mentioned DBSK, Seven(which I would be against but that's not the point now) - you know? They are in this business for quite a while that's why, they sing all the time and they get better and better so you can't really put them beside new groups. As for SHINee - one guy makes up for the whole group - Jonghyun(or something like that). He has quite unique voice.
Someone mentioned Jokwon - he wasn't just a trainee for those 8 years, he was an kid-singer back then too.
Even though I like(or liked) Big Bang, I can only laugh at the fail that TOP and G-dragon made(Include Heartbreaker and TOP's Turn It Up). Taeyang is serious business, though. And the same thing that was with Seven and DBSK. DBSK song isn't meant for my liking.
Why on Earth I'm the only male here?
About singing you can't argue with me - I have the experience to make my statement.

Well, Neliets, you have few good points.
And you named the only one reason I like SHINee, it's because of this one guy.
Discussion about kpop will be long. Discussion about other k-music, I guess not that long.
It's always like that with pop. But I'm glad we have our opinions here.
I guess we all can appreciate something good even if it's not our liking. You know, Plato's idea of beauty. Whether it is our personal idea of beauty is not relevant, keke.

I used to think the same(not exactly about Korean but generally Pop music). I used to listen to Post-hardcore, hardcore, deathmetal etc. Now? Kpop!(I don't like word kpop, I would like to call it kmusic) cause I came to conclusion - as long as you like it, don't give a **** about what it is. Listen what you like - that's what music is for, right? ;]badcompany wrote:I dunno, for me, the Korean (Pop) Music Industry represents everything that's wrong with the Music Industry today.
Not a popular opinion but nevertheless, only an opinion.
Ethlenn, that's the only thing why I sometimes even listen to SHINee.
And I forgot to point out one more thing - have you noticed that always main vocalist(sometimes someone else too) screams? I don't get it. Ok, they want to show-off but only one who really have showed us something is IU. As you an read it hear - http://www.allkpop.com/2010/12/if-iu-be ... t-december - December too but I don't know why they are not even a bit popular. Even I, a guy who mostly likes R&B stuff, liked the song "Learned my lesson in love", as Last.fm says, it's top 5 overall song for me(DBSK and 2PM is in the lead, sadly).
And damn how much I love Fly To The Sky - Like a man. I listen to it... umm... about all the time?
Probably because pop music is more readily available than other genres. There are tons of websites dedicated to Korean pop music.Ethlenn wrote:Discussion about kpop will be long. Discussion about other k-music, I guess not that long.
Honestly, I'm not a huge Kpop fan. I don't buy albums nor download the music. Basically, most of my knowledge comes from artists appearing on tv shows. For example, I know who Daesung is because he was on Family Outing.
So I won't pretend to be an expert, but from what I've heard I think artists like Lynn, Davichi, Younha have good voices.
Also that lady (forgot her name) from the choir episodes of Qualifications of Men was pretty good.
That program called 'Qualifications of Men' was one reason to think that voices could be trained to sing. They gathered a whole large group of artists from the studio variety shows. Many of them could not sing or had never tried. After several months of being weeded out and given rehearsals and instructions by a wonderful director they put on a really good choir and sang at a special festival. The were very afraid and nervous to do this but being artists they worked at it. They sounded pretty good. I give all credit to the lady who made them believe they could sing. The lead soprano was indeed a trained singer to start with.
I can't remember the choir director's name but she is now doing an interview show called 'Heart to Heart' in the daytime. At least shown in the daytime here in California.

Not sure about After School's music, but I think Kahi is a good dancer.Ethlenn wrote:Well, everyone has one's own opinion. I can't stand SNSD, After School and so on.
Just watched something called Dalshabet on M!Countdown(debute, I think). And it was awful. Buuuuuuuuuuut pretty much all debut songs are quite bad, except Rain.
By the way - when we were arguing about can or cant sing issue, now while watching M!C, I remembered one more think which you could definitely include by your standars - Gavy Nj. But let's not bring up the past and just let them rest.
And I'm amazed by myself. I've been listening to that Fly To The Sky song even know, the ratio is something like this - I listen to it 3 times, then some other song and then again 3 times and then again one another.
I am the only one who dislike Hip Hop, Rap groups(Untouchable n such) and artists(music, not themselves), except Outsider and Supreme Team?
And at last !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Secret's new song doesn't resemble in any of the previous songs, that's a relief, I thought that it would be something Secret-ish. But still the song isn't anything too good.

Have you seen Simon D Oh! My School? I find him pretty funny on the show. At times it sounds like he isn't using Seoul dialect.Neliets wrote:Supreme Team?
I was reminded of Wonder Girls when I first saw Secret's retro concept. But it sounded like a good comeback stage.Neliets wrote:And at last !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course. I watch Oh! My School from the very first episode. I've seen him on few others too. He's quite amusing.Jav_sol wrote:Have you seen Simon D Oh! My School? I find him pretty funny on the show. At times it sounds like he isn't using Seoul dialect.Neliets wrote:Supreme Team?

It's way better than Magic or Madonna, imho, but not really my liking.
Uhmm.... no, I stopped watching all three weekend shows some time ago. But I guess fans made already some cuts^^
All I watch lately is Yu Hoeil Sketchbook, Kim Jeong-eun Chocolate, 7080 Concert and some others. I was happy when I could watch Yun Dohyeon's Love Letter, now he has his radio show... ehh... when I'm at work. Blast.
And yes, I should mention this, I listen to the radio when I don't listen to my playlist. Even Kim Heechul program. I may like him or not, and may like SuJu or not, but sometimes there are real gems in there. Like Kim Hyeongjeong (no, it's not The Tab... I mean SS501 flower leader).
