OP and ED Songs vs. Quality (File Size)

Post by thetenken » Mar 26th, '05, 22:11

About to start encoding a new series and was wondering how people felt about Opening and Ending songs.

Cut OP/ED to save on file space/quality, or leave it in?

i'm not familiar with the encoding process but does cutting the OP/ED songs make that big of a difference? how much time/memory will u save by doing so? i think it'll b ok to cut it, mayb just leave the 1st ep as is with the OP/ED song so ppl that watches it will know what the theme songs r. since u're cutting the songs just at the beginning and at the ending, it'll b easy to change timing for subs if some1 subs the drama with the songs. ok, that was my 2 cents worth. :D

I think you should leave at least one op/ed in the first/last ep because I love watching those. And just cut the rest of them out so there is better quality. :-)

2 minute OP, 4 min ED. Both are filled with lots of action and will probably be allocated a lot of the action under a VBR scheme. That's 6 min for each episode, with each episode only having about 42 minutes of real content.

I guess the OP/ED could be separately released, and can probably be added every other episode or something.

As for the subs, I don't know if the decision has been final to go soft or hard subs. Or maybe both.

i think we need another option to keep just one OP/ED for the first episode and not the rest ......

That is a confusing title tenken. I thought you had a op-ed piece about sound quality, as in opinion-editoral section of a newpaper/magazine.

I vote for cutting the opening and ending except for the very first ep.

Sorry, just using the Japanese notation structure.

To be honest, I like watching the op and ed for every episode. I voted NO.

I really like to see the op and ed for every episode, these songs are part of the dorama watching experience, and after hearing these songs so many times, just hearing them again makes you remeber the story all over again.

I still feel a need to cry when I listen to the beautiful life ed song 8)

Personally, I'd leave the OP/ED of the first ep and cut the rest until a new season with a new OP/ED appears (usually anime), but since majority favor leaving it in, this is a futile post.

Opening and ending each in separate files.
All episodes with op/ed cut.
softsob(srt) subtitles release.

I don't like the idea of doing all eps in diff format though.
Either have them all cut and op/ed in sep files
or keep the op/ed in all the files.

Probably keeping the op/ed and having softsubs(srt)
would keep the vast majority of leechers(myself included)
happy enough. (though i still prefer them separate :roll )

if it comes down to a matter of quality, i'd say:

leave op song in ep1, delete ed song (if it's the same throughout the series).

delete all op, ed and previews in the middle eps.

delete op song in last ep (if it's the same one), then leave ed song.

the way i see it, if i wanted to hear the songs, i can either go back to ep1 or ending ep, or dl the ost. i also don't think the previews are necessary, since you're gonna watch the next ep anyways. you don't want ANY spoiler info!

Heh, somewhere along the road we started down the previews path. For those who don't like previews, here's good news. There were no previews to begin with. =)

IMO, OP/ED are a part of the whole experience and unless you're doing a marathon, watching and singing along with the OP/ED are great fun!
So, please keep the OP/ED for all episodes

/my 2cents

I rather like the OP/ED left in, it just feels to me more like watching it as it was aired rather than later. But it is not that big of a deal, if at least one playing of them is left in.
Pioneer use to do something like that on thier anime tapes, on each tape the first episode had the OP and the last episode had the ED, then they jammed all the previews for the next tape's episodes at the end.

I agree !

Just want to add a note here: If the op song change halfway through the series (in case of the Heaven Sword Dragon Sabre 2003), please keep it. that's all :-)

^^they changed op songs half way? Not mine! There are two versions out there. The taiwan op/ed and the china op/ed. Video is all the same just different songs.

Yes. People can always watch the op/eds if they want to on their own. For dvds they only put one op & ed but I know I watch them over and over again. Also, how much quality is really sacrificed? If its not much then it doesn't really matter I guess.
