The fact that Juri-chan happens to be in it is icing on the cake.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade; I love the manga and the drama as well but there's only about 7 volumes of material (I've read up to vol. 21) since the SP and the story's nowhere near as interesting. 1 movie is barely doable; 2 will really be a big stretch.flamethunder85 wrote:From blogs (May 26th):
"Nodame movie started its filming today, but Juri-chan's not there..
Shot a 3-minute scene for 8 hours, what a movie!
The conductor is Tanihara Shosuke...."

New cast revealed
Ninomiya was on a maternity leave last year and she was recently diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, so I suspect a large part of the script will be based on original material. One of the best part of Nodame is the music, and this is where Ninomiya's extensive research on the classical genre really paid dividends. Given the fact that the writer of the movies is the same as the one for the drama/SP and his prior work was Last Dance , I'm really apprehensive as to how well he can choose the appropriate musical pieces (I'm sure he'll have help) and integrate them seamlessly into the story.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

So far, he's done really well with his choices, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.zettaiKaren wrote:Given the fact that the writer of the movies is the same as the one for the drama/SP and his prior work was Last Dance , I'm really apprehensive as to how well he can choose the appropriate musical pieces (I'm sure he'll have help) and integrate them seamlessly into the story.

The scriptwriter didn't pick the musical pieces, Ninomiya did (and the incidental music in the drama was chosen by someone else).bmwracer wrote:So far, he's done really well with his choices, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.zettaiKaren wrote:Given the fact that the writer of the movies is the same as the one for the drama/SP and his prior work was Last Dance , I'm really apprehensive as to how well he can choose the appropriate musical pieces (I'm sure he'll have help) and integrate them seamlessly into the story.

I think the script is not completely done yet..From the latest mag interview, Juri-chan said she doesn't even know the ending of the story since Ninomiya sensei is still continuing the manga.... Besides, I thought they expand the movie into two because there are too many things to deliver... No matter what, I hope the movies will be as good as the drama/SP..zettaiKaren wrote:I don't want to rain on anyone's parade; I love the manga and the drama as well but there's only about 7 volumes of material (I've read up to vol. 21) since the SP and the story's nowhere near as interesting. 1 movie is barely doable; 2 will really be a big stretch.

I felt the same way about the anime version: it didn't seem nearly as animated (no pun intended) and lively as the live action version, which is nonpareil.Mwulf wrote:My hopes are high. The live-action adaptation seems to be the best of the bunch. The anime's too low-budget, and I gave up on the manga long ago because, once the gang went to Europe, the story started heading nowhere--fast.

I started to watch the anime AFTER watching the drama and I couldn't finish the anime. For the few episodes that I watched I couldn't help but thinking that it wasn't as FUN as the live action.
Oh man, I just started reading the past few pages and wow have I been out of the loop. They're making a movie?!?!? Two of them?!!? YAY this is so exciting!!!

Sorry I meant Slow Dance, the drama that starred Fukatsu Eri and Tsumabuki Satoshi. Every time I tried to finish it, I ended up so I eventually gave up.zettaiKaren wrote:Given the fact that the writer of the movies is the same as the one for the drama/SP and his prior work was Last Dance ...
I thought the story was still pretty interesting until the end of what transpired in the SP. As per above the writer doesn't exactly instill confidence in me; I love the drama though so I'm also hoping for the best....I gave up on the manga long ago because, once the gang went to Europe, the story started heading nowhere--fast.

Today, there's a report seeing Juri-chan filming in Paris, taken from Mixi blog. I'll just translate what the blogger stated in her blog.
On my way back home, I discovered a tv or movie shooting crew in front of me.
Ah! That.....Wasn't she the heroine of Nodame Cantabile, Ueno Juri san!!
There were also French madam and cheese, also a goat....What?
Looks like they were puzzled by the goat's acting. CM? Or Nodame?
I felt a little lucky at the moment. The picture was taken from a strange view/corner afar.
Seems like the shooting was started from the scene of burying the head under aunt's knee, why was that taken?
I only took this one picture...
Wearing the pink cloth is Juri-chan. (No face shown!!)
More here! One picture that I can't disclose here. Sumimasen.

Other good musical dramas
I just discovered Nodame Cantabile and love it since my first love is classical music. Are there any other dramas out there dealing with classical music?

I can't do torrents, but I badly want a copy of this. Is there anyone who is thinking of releasing it here in the states?
Such a brilliant story.
I am looking forward to the movie too. I have been following the manga.... Chiaki is finally getting his act together, but it seems as if Nodame has moved on. I am hoping very much that this has a good ending finally.

I have seen Season 1 and the SP available there... Probably bootlegs, though.
There's also the DailyMotion site, but each episode is divided up into smaller pieces (for easier downloading, I think).

Ahhhh! I'm so glad to see this thread is alive and well...This is only my second time posting but I just have to because this drama was AMAZINGGGG. Ok, forgive me while I ramble...
First of all, I had just finished watching a reallyyyy depressing drama and Nodame Cantabile was just what i needed to get over it. It's so ironic because I hadn't planned on watching this at all; I read "musicians" in the description and automatically assumed that it would be run-of-the-mill tortured artist scenario. I WAS WRONG. SO. SO WRONG. I searched around for people's favorite happy dramas, and even though everyone raved about NC, I still avoided it. Only after days of putting it off did I finally just give in and watch - with low expectations.
But man. It blew me away. First of all, it was so funny! This is the only drama that ever got me laughing out loud in spite of myself. The facial expressions and just the sheer absurdity of some of the situations made me crack up so much! One example of just how well-crafted and subtle this humor: Other not so subtle humor would be ANYTHING that Stresseman said!
Anyways! The acting was SUPREME; most of the characters had surprising depth, even ones who had few lines/scenes I think the biggest surprise for me though was how much I grew to empathize with Nodame. Usually I don't like these kinds of crazy characters, but she has so many facets that you can't help but root for her. For example Also, the
The biggest thing for me though, was the connection between Nodame and Chiaki; they are made for each other and I love the way they complement each other. I love that there wasn't any third party getting between them either; a lot of their relationship is very mature and focuses on their personal growth. Siiighhhh, my heart is so happy that there is a movie coming out, you have no idea!
So, i'm sorry for the VERY long post, it's just that this drama really affected me and I didn't know where else to post this!

Thanks for your observations... You've discovered along with the rest of us the depth of each character and how well written Nodame is...
And thanks to your support and the support of all the other Nodame fans, we'll be rewarded with TWO theatrical Nodame movies later this year and early next year...

I am looking forward.
Too bad US tv isn't good about foreign movies. This would be a hit, I think
That scene where Chaiki is conducting Beethoven's 7th and everyone is applauding, but Nodame is crying is the best part of the whole series. The phone call between them near her house is the second greatest scene ever.
Of course, Chaiki in Hokkaido is pretty darn funny.

Do you think the movie will reach that point from the manga?Baruch Menachem wrote:Chapters 127-128 are her doing chopin with Stressman in London. I thought the whole arc from 120 on to 130 one of the best parts so far. Would love to see Uri do the scene which leads up to it. It colors my feeling for the music. It now has the feel of "Its tomorrow, and he does not love me now."
From the trailers, it looks like scenes from Paris-Hen: Chiaki working with the Roux-Marlet Orchestra...

the show so far has stuck pretty close to the manga. (they dropped the arc of the visit to his parent's house, which makes sense from a budget standpoint, but lost an important part of the logic behind Chiaki's emotional coldness)
The manga is supposed to end in January, about the same time as the second movie airs. I get the impression they are going to wind up everything together.

I always thought his coldness was from his parents divorce, plain and simple...
Hmm, will that be possible and not be too abrupt or contrived? The manga is supposed to end in January, about the same time as the second movie airs. I get the impression they are going to wind up everything together.
