The Best Drama of US Television

Post by Sopranosbaby » Jan 7th, '09, 08:12

The best drama of television is certainly The Sopranos. With its six seasons, The Sopranos became the most successful tv drama ever and It will never be forgotten. I liked every single episode of it and every episode tasted like a movie. Characters are drawn incredibly amazing. James Gandolfini is a great actor and he was amazing in The Sopranos. With characters like Tony, Christopher, Paul and others, The show was incredible. I watched not only how Tony dealt with his everyday problems but I also watched how psycologically Tony grew and this character development added really important things. Especially by the help of conversations with his doctor, I could see the way of how he thinks.

"The Wire" hands down has to be the most brilliant show ever created and Season 4 was by far better than any produced show in the history of Television. The series was moving, shocking and superbly written and the actors all showed great range in character development. Great show! wasn't a huge fan of the finale but it still made it's point to cling to the rippling effects of it's intention to leave you feeling dirty, angry and somehow hopeful.

My new favorite is another HBO series "True Blood" hopefully they will continue with the snarky dialogue and interesting characters.

Back when I could still keep up with television...

House MD was my favorite. It is a great show, and even though the current seasons have been less enjoyable than, say, 1 or 2 (it started getting a little...blah around season 3, and I hated 4), it is a great show.

I also followed Heroes for awhile...

Sitcom-wise, I LOVE The Big Bang Theory, and Two and a Half Men

Let's move back in time a little

The X Files (heck I recorded season 3-5 on VHS, but don't have all all the episodes from them left)
Memorable quote - Paper Clip (3x02):

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN: What is this?

SKINNER: This is where you pucker up and kiss my ass.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN: Now, listen, you...

SKINNER: Now, you listen to me, you son of a b*tch! This man's name is Albert Hosteen. You should remember that. Because if Agents Mulder and Scully come down with so much as a case of the flu, Albert is prepared to recite, chapter and verse, file for file, everything on your precious tape.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN: It's a nice try, Skinner.

SKINNER: I'm sure you're thinking Albert is an old man and there are plenty of ways you might kill him too. Which is why, in the ancient oral tradition of his people, he's told twenty other men the information on those files. So unless you kill every Navajo living in four states... that information is available with a simple phone call. Welcome to the wonderful world of high technology. (I love the last sentence!) :lol

Twin Peaks (cult serie!) I watched this when I was 15 years old (below recommended age, I guess), after that much oldest sister had told me it was a great serie.
I don't remember the exact episode, but the scene was something like this.
It was Laura Palmer's home and the view was seen from white couch, you could see a person slowly approaching it from behind, it was Bob. I almost jumped out of my skin when I realized who it was. :fear:

And a little more recent ones.

Six Feet Under

Dr. House I love this drama!

I was really looking forward to Dollhouse as well, but the first episode didn't exactly get me hooked. I hope it gets more interesting during the future episodes.

mmmm little hard to say THE BEST US drama, cause we have different tastes, no?
so to me (more into the medical and thriller dramas) I LOVE House MD :salut: oh man, even if you're not a doctor, you will definitely love this drama. All the medical cases they show, and how they diagnosed it is just so great (I even sometimes find it better to study a certain disease by watching House MD instead of simply reading my books :P ).
Another drama I enjoyed watching was Lost, but somehow I lost interest in it, not sure why

I felt the same way about Lost. I really loved it at the beginning and then it kind of went downhill and got really boring. It's gotten much improved since last season and I'm waiting for everything to come together when it ends next year.

Right now, the only show I've been watching regularly is ER. It's been around for a while, but it's still one of the best medical dramas in my eyes. And I'm enjoying every minute of it's final season.

Can't argue with that. :-) Battlestar Galactica was good too. My friends thought I was a nerd for watching it during the first season. Used to watch CSI but it's lost my interest recently.

Hmm... Most of my favorite shows have bit the dust, but here's what I'm watching these days:

Battlestar Galactica-- Season 3 was a bit of a let-down, but they finally kicked it back up and gave us a good ending. Sad that it's gone now....

One Tree Hill-- Nice to see a show where the high-school kids grow up and act like adults (sort of). Some flakey moments, but such is life.

Terminator: TSCC-- I'm a few eps behind right now, but this one's been enjoyable so far. Wonder how the movie release will affect things.

Heroes-- Still a favorite, though I've been busy and haven't gotten caught up. Hopefully it didn't start sucking since I stopped.

Law and Order-- The original is still the best one.

Not much else I watch these days besides Jeopardy and reruns of Two and a Half Men reruns during dinner....

"Best drama"? It really should be "Favorite drama".

For me, it's Deadwood. Accept no substitute.

I'm watching the entire series for the fourth time. It's a very nuanced series with exceptional depth of plot and characters. Sadly, it ended before its time.

I started watching ER in the middle and then stopped when they kept changing the cast.
Now pretty much all I watch is some documentaries, Fringe, and "America's next top Model. And that's just because I use to be hang out in /X/ on 4chan.
I use to watch Heroes, then I got behind on seeing episodes, so now I just download and keep them to watch sometime in the future, when I get time.

The wire - undoubtedly one of the best of all time. Very bold with its direction, raw, real, haunting, just brilliant.
IT crowd - Though not US, however, brilliant. I repeat brilliant.
Big bang - Brilliant 1st season, just okay currently. They're running out of material so its seems.
Psych - Funny & distinctly American flavor.
Scrubs - Sometimes ok, sometimes not.

House - last two seasons suck. Lost its medical drama luster.
Grey's anatomy - Brilliant medical drama first two sessions, but now just another chick flick.
Heroes - Interesting first few episodes. Now no direction at all, I wonder why this is still popular.

I watch all three C.S.I. series, Lost and House, M.D.. Growing up, I enjoyed weekly doses of Early Edition (I still watch the reruns), The Nanny and Doogie Howser, M.D. ----- ETA: I forgot to mention 30 Rock and Damages. :whistling:

Yep, it's House and Howser. It just hit me... and I'm just playing around. :lol

I rather enjoy 'BOSTON LEGAL' It is funny and sharp and there are some dramatic court scenes. Plus I like the ending scene with the two cigar smoking crosines on the penthouse terrace.

Also somehow hooked on 'THE CLOSER' Not sure why except I like the cast. they are all pros. It is just a detective series which I normally don't go for but this one has quirks here and there.

The only series that ever got me totally addicted - that means rushing home after work and rejecting dinner dates so that I could catch it on TV - was X-Files. Followed every episode of it till the end.

The West Wing - This makes me feel intelligent when I get to understand half of the dialogue. It's so quick-witted and fast-paced that you'll commend yourself if you get the gist of the story in one viewing.

The X Files - Chris Carter's imagination is so vast and intricate, not even my nightmares can keep up. I watched this religiously for 10 seasons, week by week, season by season hoping that the next scene will have the very rare therefore very precious Mulder-Scully PDA.

CSI franchise -Vegas is my favorite although I very much enjoy Horatio Caine's antics with the shades, GQ poses, and deliberate dialogue delivery.

24 - If you want something done call Jack Bauer. This guy has the survivability of a cockroach -- how many times has he been involved in a nuclear leak, blast, chemical and biological attack, torture by terrorists or the Chinese government, drug dependence brought on by undercover work and still save the world all in twenty four hours? Short of a giant foot stepping on him, I don't think anything can kill Jack Bauer.

Lost - Speaking of giant foot, I'm very intrigued with this show especially the giant four-toed statue facing the coast. Once again, I enjoy having my brain scrambled like a laboratory frog with a pin-prick needle substituting for chloroform. I get bored when I could tell what will happen next so needless to say, I don't get bored with Lost because no one has successfully predicted any plot line yet.

Law and Order franchise - SVU is my favorite. I like Munch but he doesn't have much exposure. He did have a cross-over guest appearance on the X Files.

House MD - I like that House is so cynical and crass but brilliantly genius in his field. He's almost like an idiot-savant but very, very rude.

Heroes - I love Hiro Nakamura. I want to have his power. I think Sylar is cool too much more than Peter Petrelli -- goody-two-shoes but can't really tell which side is good and which is bad.

Lie To Me - This is a relatively new one. This will spoil you for other detective shows. Tim Roth's character can read your mind just by looking at your face or listening to your voice. I've actually tried to observe one of the micro-expressions on actual people with some success. It's really amusing and interesting when you get to do it.

Dexter. http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/home.do
At first, I was disgusted, but after a few episodes, I got hooked.
Dirk humor is awesome.

Dexter and his sister are actually dating in a real life.

+1 for Hank Moody. He's my hero.

House sucks though, at least the last 2 or 3 seasons.

Psych - all time favorite. Where is the pineapple?
