open a command shell in windows and enter "nslookup momusu.lunarpages.com" or "ping momusu.lunarpages.com". the ip-address should show up then if your nameserver can resolve the hostname.

sure it helps. thanks!

everybody who has the same problem with resolving the ip-address of momusu.lunarpages.com can apply the following fix temporarily:

add the line "216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com" to your hosts file.
This way the computer don't need to query the address from a nameserver.
Depending on which operating system you use you find your hosts file at:

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000/XP)

Don't forget to remove the line you added later because the ip-address may change in the future.

edit: instructions for Mac users are available at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88158 (thx to darb for the info)

Mine works and below I have copied in how the hosts file looks on my computer when edited in notepad for those who are wondering about the language in the text it is in Swedish.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
#
# Till exempel:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # källserver
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # klientvärddatorn x

217.0.0.1 localhost
216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com

Hope it works remember to save after you add the extra line

ok, again for the users who have trouble...

open the hosts file with a text editor (e.g. notepad.exe or wordpad.exe) and add the following line at the end of the file:

Code: Select all

216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com

Interesting... it does NOT work if you are using a proxy server via Firefox. It seems Firefox has the proxy server do the DNS resolution and bi-passes the local HOST file. But when you turn off access through proxy, then it works.

@ArgSom: you need to change the localhost entry in your hosts file, the current line ain't gonna work. The correct line is:

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost

lunarpages had routing issues on their end but apparently they've fixed the problem already it just might take a day or two for everything else to resolve itself.

Another solution if you still have that problem and that proxy problem is to to replace http://momusu.lunarpages.com with http://xanthe.lunarpages.com/~momusu2/

e.g.
http://momusu.lunarpages.com/bt/torrent ... pg.torrent

becomes

http://xanthe.lunarpages.com/~momusu2/b ... pg.torrent

Hopefully everything will be back to normal in a day or two.

I tried from notepad to Ruroshin's but both dont work for me. I'm having error with Ruroshin and
The requested URL could not be retrieved if clicked on dl :-(
Guess I just have to wait for a sew days. When the page is back to norm do I need to delete the line in Hosts?
Edit:
Ohhh! it works with Ruroshin's. Lo tech me try to copy & paste and left a double forward slash as in http://xanthe.lunarpages.com/~momusu2// ... vi.torrent :P
Thanx

Hi

I tried to input the line using notepad for the file called Hosts.Sam. I even saved it and when I open notepad I find it is there. However I still get an error message that the lunarpages page could not be found and I am unable to download. Will it resolve itself soon or is this the only way going forward to download?

Thanks

i like to say thanks for all the peeps who explained what to do, but i still had no idea what gibberish your'e on about. i just did it the dyslexic mind of a 10 year old and pasted http://xanthe.lunarpages.com/~momusu2/ at the start in the address bar and deleted the unnessary bit before /bt/torrents/file name etc. i'm quite happy to do it that way every time even if it is a real **** way to do it

hi Brightstar
the ending 'sam' means 'sample' ... in order to make it work you have to rename this file just to hosts (without .sam)

interesting thing was that my bit torrent clients (both ABC and Azureus) couldn't render the torrents from momosu.lunarpages.com as valid torrents. and that was before MoerkJ included the ping that fixed the problem. so i thought the problem lied in my bit torrent clients. i uninstalled and reinstalled both clients....and the torrents ending up working fine.

hmmms.....at first i thought it might have been the same problem a lot of you were having... but then it might have been a different one. it was just weird that both bittorrent clients weren't reading the torrents at the same time. i never had that happened to me before.

either

1. You haven't configured your computer for BT properly.
2. They haven't configured their computer for BT properly.

Since they're uploading its likely that its number 1.

Do you have a firewall or router? (If you're using windows xp it usually comes installed with a software firewall by default.)

Most common problem is you haven't forwarded your ports.

Have you read the tweaking bittorrent topic yet? http://www.d-addicts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1831

I don't know diddly about all that IP stuff you were all going on about before, but this certainly helps. Makes a lot more sense to just say "download this" than to say "open this and that with notepad and change this and that blah blah blah"....well, at least for this lay person ^^; But anyways, thanks for posting that.

DM, just wanted to let you know that i'm in the same boat. it's not just you. and you and i are on some of the same torrents, right?

at first, i thought it was my connection as well, but couldn't really test it (since i hardly dl anything other than asian dramas). but on some of the popular torrents, i'm quite fine. i also know that on some of my torrents, the people just are not configured correctly.

but on some torrents (like the ring), i just can't figure it out. i've got my ul speed set pretty high, but it won't take as much, and my dl speed is even worse. just no idea, man.

I tried everything that was said in this topic but I still cannot d/l

I always have page with this:

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://momusu.lunarpages.com/bt/torrent ... 11.torrent

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for momusu.lunarpages.com
The dnsserver returned:

The torrent file is fine. Do you want me to send it to you through PM?

Incidentally, I just had problems connecting to http://d-addicts.net:7979/ and to the tracker for seeding...but no problems downloading torrents and connecting to the forum. I wonder if that's my school's doing or because it's down. >_>
sure it helps. thanks!

everybody who has the same problem with resolving the ip-address of momusu.lunarpages.com can apply the following fix temporarily:

add the line "216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com" to your hosts file.
This way the computer don't need to query the address from a nameserver.
Depending on which operating system you use you find your hosts file at:

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000/XP)

Don't forget to remove the line you added later because the ip-address may change in the future.

edit: instructions for Mac users are available at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88158 (thx to darb for the info)

i dont understand, how do i add that to that file?? help please

1. You haven't configured your computer for BT properly.
2. They haven't configured their computer for BT properly.

Since they're uploading its likely that its number 1.

I cant seem to open the hosts file.everytime i click it, a small black window pops up but then disappears after like 5 secs. its not open long enough for me to type in216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com. I right click on the hosts file to try to open it with notepad, but it doesnt seem to have the "open with" option. Is this a problem that is going to be resolved soon?

It means that you should be logged in to your PC with local administrator rights, nothing to do with your ISP...

Copy the lunarpages entry under the localhost, just like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com

Save the file and you should be right, if not then close down and restart your browser.

okay this is sooo weird...i accidentally cancelled my torrent Download and when i tried to continue Downloading again...by clicking on the torrent link...the link is down?
so i read about this and i was just wondering where exactly do i add 216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com to? HELP please!!!

EDITED: i once again screwed myself up...i went and renamed the host file to 216.193.207.187 momusu.lunarpages.com...so now the host file is no longer a file extension but MS-DOS APPLICATION...that doesn't open up w/ wordpad or anything and it doesn't even open up....i'm soooo screwed....

I did manage to work the torrent links using Ruroshin's method....Good work there buddy!
Ruroshin wrote:lunarpages had routing issues on their end but apparently they've fixed the problem already it just might take a day or two for everything else to resolve itself.

Another solution if you still have that problem and that proxy problem is to to replace http://momusu.lunarpages.com with http://xanthe.lunarpages.com/~momusu2/

e.g.
http://momusu.lunarpages.com/bt/torrent ... pg.torrent

becomes

http://xanthe.lunarpages.com/~momusu2/b ... pg.torrent

Hopefully everything will be back to normal in a day or two.
