Wordpress blocked in China?

Post by Keiko1981 » Aug 5th, '11, 13:10

I have read that Blogger/Blogspot is blocked in China.
What about Wordpress.com? Also, does WP block Chinese users?

You're welcome.

But it can be different with other ISP. For example, the ISP we use at my office blocks all images on Wikipedia, but at home I can access them no problem.

Must be careful choosing ISP then.
What about domains that host their own Wordpress blog?
Is it different as well, depending in which country the domain is located?

If the domain is different than wordpress.com then it can differ. Also, if the website is hosted on a server or share an IP address with a website that is blocked in China, then the domain will be blocked.

It can be pretty tricky... But China seems to be more tolerant these days.

I didn't encounter any problem with country specific domains, but the speed can be slower when hosted in certain countries.

There are some proxies you can use to know if a specific website or domain is blocked in China. As long as the proxy is located in Mainland China.

Yes, more tolerant than before. I hope things will get more easy for you in the future.
