Wanting to encode a DVD. What to use?

Post by Orbity » Jul 9th, '11, 15:23

Hello

If wrong section then sorry.

I have a DVD here I would like to encode and shrink. Any suggestions on what to use would be great.

Thank you in advance.

If you're a newbie, Handbrake or Avidemux are good because they're quite simple to use, and you just have to use your mouse.

Just remember whatever the program you decide to use the x264 encoder for video, and to remove the black borders around the video ("Crop"). Then the default options should work perfectly, since they're quite sane anyway. For the sound, it should default to a good codec depnding on your file format (AAC audio for an MP4).

So if using Handbrake or Avidemux, load your video, crop the black borders, make sure you're using x264 and press encode.

Thanks. I found that DVDFab works a treat.

Oh yes, DVDFab is really good, actually it's what I use to extract the video, since it manages every kind of protection. Never tried the encoder, because I'm not sure what they use.
