change the subtitle font color of a hardsub video, possible?
I have an avi file wherein there is hardsub english subtitles, the problem is the font color of the subtitle use is very dark, very hard to read, I want to change the font color to a lighter color.
Is there a way to change a certain color in an avi video to another color?
For example, the font color used in the video is pink, I want to change all the pink color in my video to yellow.
Please advice any software, plugin that can do this.
Thanks.

to my understanding, hardsubs are mixed in with the video data, no way to remove them. The only options I've ever seen or heard of are watermark removing tools/filters which generally blur and blotch out the waternark, but generally leaves an ugly blurry mess. or to crop/trim/block out with a solid colour.
The only way I see what this person wants to do being done is blocking out all the subs with a block of colour and subbing it yourself, or doing something similar and trying to repaint the subs manually. So yeah, it might be doable, but like I said, I sure as heck wouldn't want to undertake the project. Getting the RAWS and subbing those would probably be less work in the end.

lovely? my reply is directed primarily towards Riea and her seeing the only way being to block the original subtitles and putting new ones on top.Puppet Princess wrote:"I would imagine" isn't very helpful though when the person wants to know how to do something not just if it is possible.
And this sure seems like a question asking if it is possible.nokiamania wrote:Is there a way to change a certain color in an avi video to another color?

I said not "JUST" if it were possible.
That quote was followed by...
All I'm saying is, how frustrating would you be if you were the original poster if you asked for help but all someone did was say, "yeah, that can be done." Not even a link to someplace with more information.
It's not very helpful. It makes it seem like you only posted to tell Riea they were wrong.

Yea...I don't need to answer every portion of her post. Why? Cuz I sure don't know the answer to every portion of her post. I only had opinionated info regarding the first half. So I gave info stating that I think there is a solution in the form of a plugin. Implying a google search for such a plugin. Or even further input by another user with better information.
Really, I don't even need to answer her particular post when I am looking to make a reply towards another user's post in the same thread. It is still relevant to the topic at hand. And as you stated, it seems my post was just to tell Riea that she is wrong. That's pretty much why I posted. Not that she's wrong. But rather that I disagree with her.
We can keep going in PMs if you like. This thread should really get back on topic.

As long as the color of the existing hard subs is suitably consistant and distinct from its surroundings then replacing it with another color is definitely doable. It's called chroma key. I don't know of any way to conveniently accomplish this on a full-length video though. Maybe by playing around with virtualdub, the colorkeymask filter, and a yellow underlay...
Good god, I'm away a few days and this turns up..
firstly, I don't mind being corrected, wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, nor the last time either.
secondly, I did mention that "to my understanding" and "the only way I see".. I only did a few minutes of research on the subject and did not find any simple way of doing it and therefore simply relayed that fact.
Basically, we're all here to try to help one another, no need to bicker or argue over something this minor.
