Thanks Rangoon for replying... I did read somewhere they are *thinking* about bringing it to the United States, and when will that happens, who knows *shrug*. I guess once it's in Europe, more peeps will be selling it on the net. So I guess i'll have to wait til May. I did hear that it may be a bit different to conform to consumers taste in Europe.

Yes, i think because US simply have too much rules in network communication, that y they have to pass some tests and have to get permissions from FCC, FDA, etc etc etc...

Dun worry as i think only the software wise will be different, dun think much of the design will be diferent from the origin phone as it will not be logical to produce the same phone under 2 production line. Anyway we will have to wait till May n see the final product.

uhmm, anyone know

1. Can anyone tell me the model n the brand of this phone,

Hi!
It's been a while since i visited the forum.

Just wanted to tell that I just saw an ad for the LG chocolate here in Germany. Debitel sells it for 49 € with different kinds of contracts for every net here.
I don't know if there are other sellers, too. Could be.

I also think it looks great, cool style. unfortunately I'm not using the phone that much so I use prepaid.

I hope it goes well here, so there will be more cool asian cell phones in Germany.
Especially the ones we discover in dorama series and like.

I have a Samsung A900 (US version) and I've noticed it in a lot of shows. Shin has it in Goong, and Gong Chan has it in My Girl.

the US getting phones slower also has to do with supply and demand here. in korea and japan their main source of communication is all accessed through their cell phone, so they are willing to shell out the big bux to pay for the latest and greatest model. whereas in america, we're still heavily relied on landline communications, so ppl arent willing to spend a lot of money on a cell phone whereas their current cell phone, although outdated, could still do the job they want and that is to mainly talk and not surf the net. ppl in america always wait for the phones to be free in order to purchase it. so unless ppl are willing to pay for expensive phones, dont expect phones to be rlsd as quickly as it does in the asian countries.

^ i agree...its the same thing here in the UK...people still prefer to rely heavily on their landline phones...in fact..its mostlii asians here that tend to change their fones quite a lot..and its also mostlii asians that dun realii have a landline phone...hahaha.. and a lot of people do tend to wait until the phone is free..so that they dun ave to pay an additional amount on top of the tarriff itself.. ^^

I think AnyCall sells Samsung phones. Not quite sure., becuase Anycall from what I know only server rather than the phone brand.

I think?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anycall

The best korean quality phones are korean. And then the overstocked items or one's that don't sell well get shipped abroad. That's what the guy at cingular told me.

I need a new phone. I want the new thin lined cell phones.

sorry, it's not AP, it's underwater set...Brought in from oversea, 12 months contract, but 8 months free line rental...

in malaysia there's only 1000 units, original set by zitron at KLCC RM1499...sg.wang has hiked up the price to RM1599 ..some store sell as low as 1200 but without original accesories such as chargers or battery + limited warranty

This phone is real skinny. It's like 7.9 mm thick. Geez. I saw Song Hyegyo's CF for it. It's really cool.

It was featured on V for Vendetta, but apparently they don't even sell the phone in the states. At least for now.

I just came across this blog on Korean cell phones.
I guess the blogger made a recommendation list of popular (latest) cell phones in Korea around May, 2006. Hope you check them out if anyone is interested !! They got pretty cool new stuff!!!

actually, there are a misconception in the technology of phones in korea vs in the US.... the media is telling us that korea is so far ahead of us in wireless tech due to their location (alot of island...). This in fact holds true, but the real truth is the US is catching up like a storm. So far the only thing that the korean cell have as a disposal is video streaming across phone and their picture quality seems alot nicer than ours. But that's it, all the new phone in the US now have bluetooth, and all that junk u can ever want in a phone (mp3 player, all kinda add on)... further more the US is leaning heavily toward those "blackberies", which are PDA + phone intergraded. that's a different direction from where the korean are going. so in conclusion the US phones aren't that far behind, the korean just have more variety of phones to choose from (dont' know why, they just do).

just an example. the razor V3 came out 2 years ago, and even with that tech it's still looking pretty slick. the razor V3i now even got a memory expansion slots. and those blackberries are like a gingantic load of fuction that u can never use them all.

Is it true that Korean phones can't pick up missed calls? I've seen this theme several times.

Also I was wondering how the text messaging worked in a Korean cellphone to the point that people can text message without looking... which numbers do what?

ehhh the chocolate phone ew another razor for fashion stament so played out, i have personaly used a chocolate crap phone. look a it this way you have to spend $200 on the phone it self with little memory for todays standards. and if you want more space you have to spend (regarding how much more memory you want or need) will cost you about another say around 150 dollars or so and thats only 2gigs max this phone can support. I rather go for an Ipod. Im not hating on this phone its like they advertise it like no tomorrow like its the next best thing after the RaZr phone. another feature it doenst come with is a camera. with its supported memory why not it has the space and feature to have it. well anyway im done preparing a short faqs on getting these phone to work with-in the us. stay tuned....

little faqs about getting one

Post by SSJSubgeta » Sep 12th, '06, 21:31

I have gotten several messesages in regards to getting an unlocked phone, or how does
an unlocked phone work and such. So i took some time to answer those questions in my day off.

I personaly own a Samsung SGH-D500 phone, I think i posted earlier in this thread way back in page 3 or 5 i forgot but, here some teaser pics...enjoy!!!

Now here are some things you need to know on how to go about getting your "Cool Asian phone"
But before i go on, Im not responsible for any way shape or form, Im providing this info to use at your own risk. Im not responsible for any injury

What is an unlocked phone?
Unlocked phones are like a region free phone, you can use it anywhere in the world.

Where do i get one?
You can aquire one very easy now adays through the internet and various websites.
Make sure first of all the web-site is legit. But i reccomend going to cell phone shop at your nearest asian/china-towns etc. neighborhood. They most likely will have a wide arrange of phones. That way they can demonstrate the phone there make sure it works. I hear a couple of horror stories from people who ordered their phones on-line and recieved "bricked" phones (Bricked is a term used when some one is unlocking a phone and the process fails. the phone is screwed, it wont be able to function at ALL.
wont be able to turn on or off. like the quote "useless as a brick". so becareful.

How much do these phones cost?
Depending on where your getting the phone from, and how much you want to spend.
I have seen these phones range from $150 to $400.

What service providers can i use my phone with?
Which companys work with my unlocked phone?
Does my provider suppor these phones?
As far as i know the providers that use GSM phones are AT&T/Cingular (they are now one co.) and T-Mobile. As far as my knowledge goes, and all the research i have done
up to this point, ALL GSM phones are unlockable and usable with these US providers.

***If you use Sprint, Nextel, Verizon and any US based company you DO NOT have a GSM phone. You cant use an unlcoked phone with these service providers.****

What is a SIM card?
SIM Card: Subscriber Identity Module card
This basicly your ID card for your cell phone service provider, it has your service number, phone book etc. all that
data is in that little chip.

What is GSM?
Global System for Mobile communication

What is the diffrence in GSM or CDMA?
This may get a little confusing but ill explain it in the best way i can.

GSM carriers: Cingular Wireless, recently merged with AT&T Wireless,
and T-Mobile USA.

CDMA carriers: Sprint PCS, Verizon and Virgin Mobile.

(There are also several smaller cellular companies on both networks.)
Now just so you know GSM networks totaly own the world market.

This is where you implement choice, say you live in the USA, and you go out camping and your provider is say, sprint. But sprint covarage area does not give you signal where you are camping. But people with T-mobile phones do have signals in that area. So spring doesnt have service there but you suddlenly get a signal, but instead your phone saying sprint, its verizon. It called piggy-back networking. Even tho provider company is diffrent, the signal remains the same. Take a look at the service procider coverage area.

to put it in short, its covarage, thats what it means.

CDMA:(Code Division Multiple Access): A technology for digital transmission of radio signals between, for example, a mobile telephone and a radio base station. In CDMA, a frequency is divided into a number of codes. All tho there is no limit to how many users are on one connection tower, it does limit quality in the call, hense static, dropped calls.

***Notice that some of the GSM have digits next to them. (for example: GSM-900, GSM-1800, GSM-1900.)
Thats a digital network (working on that frequency) like a radio station signal.

How do i know if the phone is unlocked? .
There are serveral ways to find this out.
1. You can get your tech manual and punch in the program code that takes you to see your version of phone and you will see the part depending on what phone you have, each prosess is diffrent. it will show either "locked" or "Unlocked" next to the phones internal ID.
2. Ask one of your friends with a GSM phone sim card (make sure its a diffrent provider than yours). swap the card from their phone to your phone, turn it on.
If it has all his/her info and works it is unlocked.

****If it gives you an error screen and doesnt work or turn on then you dont have an unlocked phone****

How do i unlock my phone?
You can do it if you have a GSM phone, its like punching in a code to your phone.
Refer to your tech manuals or search on google to find out the specific steps to doing so.

Is it legal to unlock cell phones?
You bought it, payed for it. So you have every right to do what you like with YOUR cell phone.

This is somewhat not done and doesnt include all the info i will like it to have. But I will finish this up and clean it up in the near future.

:salut:

I should clarify my question. What character s (hangul) are produced when pressing what numbers and in what sequence? Can cellphones do hanja? And if so by pressing what keys?

Several different sequences of hangul used in each different phone company..like cyon,
anycall, sky. They use different order. Anyway it's not difficult to put text message in
Korean because the number of alphabet is not many and easy to write because the length of words is short. Like keyboard. The way to put text is so similar to English, people can type very fast. I think most of young people who own cellphone can text the message without seeing..

And they cannot put hanja with the cellphone..but the people use messenger to send texts like hanja or another language.

Definately every cellphone can pick up the missed calls...and even if the phone is
not turned on, still you can pick up the missed calls. it's called "MannerCall". it costs around 5dollar per month.

You sound very defensive,

Obviously it's a lot easy to wire a small Country like Korea than America. It's not like we're living in a 3rd World Country. We invented all this whole crap.:argue: Anyway, cell phones and getting wired is way overrated. Cell phones are unnessary pile of garbabe that yuppies like to tool around with, all because they have a small penus. Often times, they are simply very rude piece of garbabe that ruin a good meal at resturants for people who use to enjoy peace and quite. It would be a lot better if we never invented that crap to begin with.:glare: There's nothing proud about being rude and offensive.

Koreans like to boast about technology because they have nothing else going on in that Country. When you can get from one end of that Country to another under 3 hours on a highway, what else can you boast about? Much of this stems from a shear frustrations of living in a small Country. I know, I use to live there. There's lots of pent up frustrations up there.

Anyway frankly, I'm getting a little tired of cell phone as convienent plot device. Often times they're a little 30 second ads for a cell phone company which they are not suppose to be doing under Korean laws but which they are getting away with anyway all because of the high cost of Korean lead actors these days. :|

I have seen the Korean soap opera "Really Really Like You" which features a talking white stuff teddy bear. I saw this link / blog and the picture of those handsfree teddy bears. I would like to buy a couple of them, does anyone know where I can find or where to buy them from? Thanks... - Raymond -

Ahh.. maybe the characters don't have that "extra" feature and are trying to save money. Many of the people who don't seem to have this seem to be relatively poor.

But knowing how to key on a phone was very useful. I didn't know it varied though. Thank you very much.

Im reading the thread and ppl need to stop intermixing CDMA and GSM phone technology in their statements, it confuses the ppl who know nothing about cell phone technology and why importing korean market CDMA phones and using it in their home market (US, europe, asia) is nearly impossible, even if you have a native CDMA network.

Furthermore, some ppl are mentioning GSM samsungs that do have korean CDMA counterparts, but they are not the same phones.
