Japanese film review websites

Post by MochaValencia » Aug 7th, '08, 11:33

Hi! Does anyone know of websites with critics' reviews of Japanese films? Box office details would also be cool. It doesn't matter if the websites are in Japanese or English.

Thanks!

Try these sites:

Kinema Club
Midnight Eye
Japanese Horror Movies Database
Cinema of Japan - Wikipedia
English-Subtitled Japanese-Movie Database
Shochiku Company

These last two are commercial sites, but can be a good resource of information.

Amazon.com - Do a search for "Japan" or "Japanese" in Movies & TV section.

Ahem http://wiki.d-addicts.com/User:8thSin#J ... ie_Reviews
Japanese box office:

I generally stay away from English critic reviews of Japanese films as they tend to be n00bs looking for blood or pinku. Voices of many is better than opinion of one.

Great collection of reviews!

I don't agree with all your reviews, but the latter is rather solid.

As I was searching for torrents for some of the movies you reviewed, some of them were tagged with your name on it! :lol Some are lacking seeds, however I hope I can at least one 100% peer.

Dai-Nipponjin: *talking talking talk....* *ROCKSHATTERSGLASS* *silence...* = LOL! Probably a classic Matsumoto Moment!

Kantoku Banzai: Just a compilation of Takeshi's style / ego. I found it watchable. *breast DJ*

Just reading your list shows how much I have missed. Most are not available via. P2P - so this will definitely increase my DVD collection. Thanks for your reviews.

For English reviews, I second Midnight Eye and also suggest Mark Schilling of The Japan Times. He has reviews of recent movies.

8thSin, I believe I've seen some of your reviews on IMDb. Very nice.

Thanks for the links guys! I'm reading them now. Wow. I think I'm missing out on a lot of films!

@8thSin: I've read some of your reviews some time ago on Drama Wiki. I love reading your them. They're direct to the point. :thumright:

My own Japanese blog (mostly film) is in my signature, but it might not be what you're looking for.

www.asiandvdclub.org may have some titles worth viewing (Gold Torrents = Free leech).

Though its not a review site, they do have titles worth watching. Afterall - the point of reading reviews tells you weather or not its worth watching.
