It's fine. I mean, yes, it sometimes chokes up, but that is true for all the live streams. I particularly like the tv schedule that is on the same page as the live stream--makes it easy to see if there is anything on or if there will be soon.

Freshverse, I think, no longer uses Flash and is using silverlight instead. But when it was using Flash, it was using an older version. If you had the latest version, Freshverse wouldn't work.

These links were emankai streams, Freshverse and cocomonk were directly using them in their silverlight player (as well as some other websites).

Pretty sure it would still be available if these websites were re-streaming instead of directly linking but well...

Actually Wist offer their service for free till 8.25.

The stream quality isn't worth $ 29.99 - better buy a ZiZiplayer (1seg) or get a jptv24 SID... or wait a bit to see if some new links show up.

Just want to say tha I have had JPTV for the past 2 months and I think its great. In terms of reliability its pretty damn good. I've only had one problem in the 2 months and that was when Fuji TV HD went down for like a couple of hours. Luckily the SD version was still working. Other than that its been great. Sure its kind of expensive but if you want to watch your shows without having to worry about the channel crapping up than JPTV is the way to go.

The device is similar to the On Time TV DMBO, but less expensive.

I'm also interested about zizi, with a simple USB, we can watch japanese channel in real time... for... 20000 yen. so about 180 euro...

that seem good if the service is better without problem, but i need more information before to pay :whistling:

No, it's a 1seg tuner. The video quality is designed for small mobile phone screens.

You can see more sample ZiZi videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/littleboy19450806

Have you got one to test?

Remember that like all of our options, we rely on the internet to get the data to us. As Japan has really crap internet connections to the rest of the world, any personal investment in this kind of kit seems like a bit of a gamble.

Japan actually has very good Internet connections to the rest of the world. By average speed, Japan is ranked second behind South Korea. If you have a device such as Slingbox, you can take advantage of the fast upload speeds to get excellent quality playback elsewhere in the world, provided you have a reasonable download speed.

There are several high capacity undersea cables running between Japan and the US. See here.

Is there any option with JPTV to watch programs on demand? I know you can schedule your machine to record programs but that seems a bit backward to me.

I am currently using Firephoenix (tv-rec.com). It is slow, but you can watch programs on demand. Its not streaming, you download each program as a wmv file.

NTKTV offers the same service. Their service is a lot quicker and streams rather than downloads. However each segment begins on the hour and you cannot skip forwards or backwards as far as I can see.

I am interested in the ZiZi player, I understand it basically plays one-seg tv. Does that mean that the image is 1-seg quality? I must admit I dont really understand the need for this device if its just streaming over IP anyway.

Basically, I am happy with tv-rec.com but it is seriously slow. If there is a similar service for a similar price but with decent download speeds I would be all for it.

With NTKV, after a video has finish streaming you can access it from your temp folder (Browse to %TEMP% in Windows Explorer) and move or copy it elsewhere. The file disappears from the temp folder after the NTKTV application is closed.

I don't think that's what you wanted, but maybe you'll find it useful?

Better alternative

Post by fischer22 » Sep 2nd, '10, 20:06

Wouldn't it be better to stream through TVants instead of bssubs? I mean, if it's the same stream, it would be a way to use it in a more efficient way (P2P instead of just leeching the stream). I say this because I would hate to have the HD disappear again just because too many people are online at the same time...

Been a while since I posted. From a quick read of the previous few pages, it doesn't seem like things have moved on much. Are there no reliable, streaming and/or download timeshift solutions out there? Don't mind paying, but it needs to be

1) a damn site simpler than some of these solutions, as my wife would be the main user
2) let her watch things on her schedule. the UK is 8 hours behind, so by the time the kids are in bed there is nothing really worth watching - she'd want to watch prime time, which means recording.

NihonNamaTerebi is a slingbox hoster. It comes with DVR so you can record two different channels at once, and it is on the Japanese side so you don't have to worry about timing being off unless there is baseball or something going overtime. You can use it via TV with a Slingcatcher or on pc or mobilephone with the SlingPlayer software.

Beyond the basic channels you can also receive BS channels, WOWOW channels, or select channels that SKY PerfecTV! e2 carries, at additional cost of course.

thats useful to know. Actually, I guess that is why you can't skip ahead on NTKTV, it just downloads an AVI file starting at the start I guess.

mrkrb - as far as I know the only simple, video-on-demand/timeshift solution out there is firephoenix (tv-rec.com) and NTKTV. Just about everything else will require you to set up a PVR solution yourself.

Both of them are easy to use, NTKTV however is set up according to hourly time slots rather than particular programs and is probably therefore less user friendly. I have nothing against the tv-rec service other than that it is slow to download. My wife schedules programs to download during the night which probably works to be honest because we have an off-peak period with our ISP.

I suppose at this stage we will end up sticking with the service. We are in Australia and so the time difference is only 1 hour and we could probably cope with a real time solution, however it is just easier to have the timeshift solution already set up.

Unless anyone else has a bag of magic beans I guess that's that?

How? NTKTV records the stream for you and then you just click and save. I haven't come across any other JPTV streamer that does that.

Edit:
Also, I want to record a documentary that is going to be on TBS. Does anyone know where I can watch that channel and record it?
