100 Most Romantic JRock Songs

Post by Liantasse » May 8th, '07, 02:11

I'm on a quest: to find the 100 Most Romantic JRock Songs!

And of course I need help! XD
I've only started listening to JRock a mere half-year ago, so I am absolutely sure there are lots and lots of romantic things-of-beauty out there that I have no inkling about... 8)

If you'd join me on this quest, I'd be very grateful! Maybe I should first of all define what I mean by "Romantic", but that is virtually impossible, as any student of literature knows only too well... :roll
Probably what I have in mind is "songs that sweep you off to another world, a world of beauty, imagination, love, melancholy, wistfulness", things of that sort. :roll

So, I'm looking not necessarily for love-songs, or sad songs, but more like songs with:
- an unforgettable melody
- sound- or word-images that take the listener to a world of "romance"
- a romantic atmosphere, in general
and which are, as the topic title says, JRock :-)

(Maybe an equivalent JPop thread would also be worth a try! I'm aware that these things would have been more appropriate on some Jmusic forums, but d-addicts is the friendliest internet community I have met so far, and that's why I chose to post this here.)

If at all possible, please also share the songs that you are suggesting. After we gather enough material, maybe we could then have a vote to see which are the 100 Most Romantic JRock Songs!

Without further ado then, these are 25 songs I have chosen so far:
If you are a romantic person, I'm sure you are also courteous :-) so, if you take any of the songs posted in this thread, please leave a comment to say you did, and preferably also how you liked them, even if you do not contribute a song as well.

Please feel free to ask me any questions about the songs above: I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge (which actually isn't too much at all, yet ).

Thank you in advance for your help!

Edit: Yaay, this is my 300th post!

Ahh gotta love the Jrock! I too love all the Gackt songs you listed (I added some from his first album too) Most of my favorite/romantic Jrock songs are from quite a few years back (i.e. Luna Sea, X Japan) but they are still awesome as ever.

D-Shade- Alone
D-Shade- Believe
Gackt- Sayonara
Gackt- Seki-ray
Gackt- Secret Garden
Glay- However
Luna Sea- Desire

Luna Sea- Luv U
Luna Sea- True Blue
Raphael- Lost Graduation
Siam Shade- 1/4 no Junjou na Kanjou
Siam Shade- Life

X Japan - Forever Love
X Japan- Crucify My Love
X Japan- Tears

Best of luck with your list! Looking forward to it when you put it all together =)

Probably what I have in mind is "songs that sweep you off to another world, a world of beauty, imagination, love, melancholy, wistfulness", things of that sort.
Envy. Definitely Envy. Oh sure, there's a lot of white noise, a lot of screaming, and a lot of well screaming. But there is a reason why people openly weep at their concerts. Emotional hardcore.

Not sure if this is all-time stuff but I think it's good music . . .

FAKE? -- Snow <-- This is Belleza's favorite romantic J-rock song ever.
FAKE? -- Belleza
FAKE? -- Butterfly
Oblivion Dust -- Lullaby
Yutaka Ozaki - Boku ga boku de aru tameni
Yutaka Ozaki -- The Night
Yutaka Ozaki -- I Love You
Southern All Stars -- Tsunami
Southern All Stars -- Manatsu No Kajitsu.
Remioromen -- Konayuki
Remioromen -- Stand By Me
Olivia -- Into the Stars

Not hard "rock" per se but my one and only nominee for ANY kind of J-love song is:

"Dakishimetai" -- Mr.Children

That is all.

The best J-Rock love songs I've heard are:

Konayuki- Remiomoren
Chiisana Koi no Uta- Mongol 800 (it is the insert song in Proposal Daisakusen)
Tentai Kansoku- Bump of Chicken
Sharin no Uta- Bump of Chicken
Supernova- Bump of Chicken
Namida no Furusato- Bump of Chicken

Also the song stereo by Nishikido Ryo. Although he's really J-Pop this song has a definte J-Rock feel to it (at least in my opinion).

And that's all I have~

just leaving a comment to say thanks for the songs and i'll try to contribute once i find any :thumright: should have a few :P i've about... 40 gigs of music on my hdd :lol all from anime/dramas though and admittedly i haven't cleaned it up in a while so... it might take a while... ANYWAY i'll try to contribute when i can :P

oh as for how much i like em well methink i'm a hopeless romantic at heart so excuse me for bias but i think i'll like most/all of em :P i'll post more concrete comments once i actually listen to em XD

well i've listened to both by Alice Nine so far gotta say his voice is pretty good though i have no clue what he's saying :P i don't know a shred of Japanese beyond what i pick up in dramas/anime. at any rate,it's got a nice fast pace that makes you want to lose yourself in them...

and the one by Alvino is nice and smooth... it's rocky but not overly so. it's got nice balance and rhythm to it...

oh just as a note i've found a few that i think might work. They're from the anime Witch Hunter Robin and that's all i know :-( never bothered to find out more XD just downloaded the ost for fun

http://www.mediafire.com/?8pdzaj2wgk9 is shell
http://www.mediafire.com/?1kemfnc21dj is half pain

:P and sorry for not knowing how to use the http codes XD never learned how to :goggle:

Larc en Ciel-Flower

I second that, whoever said it...

I haven't listened to a lot of J-rock/pop in a while, so I don't know, but I recommend stuffs from Unicorn Table (they sing the opening theme for Jinkiextend or something, I think)

:thumleft: Miyavi Señor, Señora, Señorita :thumright:
I just love the beat...a sense of magic to the heart!

Miyavi Itoshii hito
It has been nominated by Liantasse already. :P I strongly recommend it as well.
It's so moving...more than just a heartrending love story.
After learning Japanese I wish I could know the exact meaning of the lyrics better.
I've listened to this song for about 100 times.

I am odd when it comes to what I find "romantic"

My top faves are both by BUCK-TICK.

BUCK-TICK - Dress
BUCK-TICK - Misshitsu

But I will say that Malice Mizer - Au Revoir is fabulous as well.

I liked Uverworld's "Melody" more....and to the person that says rock songs aren't romantic...well most good romance songs i've heard are rock songs....they are either in the form of acoustics usually or rock ballads with piano acompaniment.

Siam Shade and Do As Infinity is my favorite band but i've pretty listen to everything else from X-Japan, Luna Sea, to stuff like Dir en grey and gazette. I'm very broad in music...also liked Joe Hisaishi's symphonic work and the brilliant green.

I would also nominate Siam Shade's song "Life"....its the first song I downloaded by Siam Shade and the one song that introduce me to them so to me its that good. It got great emotional appeal.
