Birthday and 1,000 Cranes!

Post by superlarki » Sep 8th, '06, 12:40

In some dramas i have seen that there is a jar of what i believe is paper cranes. Anyways what i wanted to know is what the 'story' is behind the giving of 1,000 paper cranes to a friend?

Also, does anyone know how to make them? Or know if theres an internet resource from where i would be able to find out.

I'm hoping to make the cranes for a friend's birthday in December.

Any help and information would be appreciated.

How To :: http://www.sadako.com/fold/folding.html

i think the cranes also symbolize good luck, but that i'm not so sure of.

does it count if you BUY the cranes instead of folding them??

how long does it usually take? =]

I don't think so. =)

I don't know about normally, but my friend did it in about a third of a year, making 10-15 cranes everyday.

hahaha, don't know. but once you start folding them, you can actually fold a good part of the crane without even looking. do some while you're watching tv/dramas, walking to school, or something. it gets to a point where making them is really fast. i can make like 10-20 cranes in a 20 minute subway ride to school. it sounds daunting, 1000, but when you start, you realize that it gets easier and easier =)

I remeber reading Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes in like 4th grade!! I didn't get it at first though...like when she went to sleep, I just thought she went to sleep and not actually died. My brother tried to make 1,000 paper cranes but its tedious and you must have a lot of time on your hands.

I don't think buying the papercranes work...besides, you don't feel any sense of accomplishment or if anyone asked, you couldn't say "I made 1,000 paper cranes once"
