Amen to that. X-Japan is amazing. I can listen to all 30+ minutes of Art of Life over and over, and then watch the video of the live from '93 - just incredible.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but there's a group call JrockRevolution that promotes jrock music. I think Yoshiki is the person responsible for it. It's a good resource for jrock info.

Speaking of Yoshiki - I was lucky enough to see him perform with a group called S.K.I.N. in Long Beach last year. The group was Yoshiki, Gackt, Sugizo, and Miyavi. They only played four songs, but it was awesome. Not sure if their music is available anywhere, but if you can get a hold of it, it's worth a listen.

Other JRock I like: B'z (they've been around forever, so they must be doing something right), L'Arc, Kagrra, Girgugamesh, Abingdon Boys School, GLAY

Other highly recommended J-artists:
Kobukuro (great duo, amazing voices, soft rock),
Sowelu (she's a cutie, R&B),
EXILE (dance, pop, R&B),
Chemistry (pop, R&B),
Ken Hirai (pop, R&B),
Spitz (soft rock)
Mr. Children (soft rock, one of the best selling artists in Japanese history, along with B's)
Mika Nakashima (soul)
Namie Amuro (dance, jpop, hip-hop)
Orange Range (hip-hop)
Utada Hikaru (pop, dance)

I am currently uploading a huge batch of my favorite Japanese songs, 15+ from each year since 1993, and couple of songs from before.

I have hand-picked all of them, and I especially recommend older songs and from lesser known artists (since they often are one hit wonders with awesome songs)

I would recommend...

Hitomi
Lost Emotions in the darkness
Japanese Girl
-I love and hate this woman... On one side she can make some really good songs but on the other her personality is waaaay to **** for her own good.

Ayumi Hamasaki-
M
Moments
Whatever
Talkin to yourself
Glitter
Decision
Seasons
-Getting older but still love her.

Utada Hikaru
Sakura Drops
Beautiful World
Colors
Deep River
Heart Station
Boku ha kuma
Devil inside you
Promise
-Favorite singer, I love her voice and her songs like sakura drops are just beautiful

L' Arc en Ciel:
Shining over you 666
Horizon
Masquerade
-Don't really know much about Hyde (I think he's the lead singer) to really comment, I've only heard a few songs which are those I listed lol

Gackt
Mizerable
Last Song
-I don't like this guys singing voice much but in Last song its bearable

Ueto Aya
Kanshou
Kaze
Ai no tama ni
Kizuna
Namida no niji
Personal
Pureness (Million Plug Style Mix
Usotsuki
-Beautiful voice, pretty actress and a behind the scenes footage of her latest concert shows her kool/sweet side you don't get to see.

Street Beats
I wanna Change
Eternal rock and roll
-If it wasn't for Crows zero I would have never heard this song, its freaking great.

YA-KYIM - Super Looper

Do As Infinity
Baranko
Good for you
Under the sun
Hiiragi
-One of my favorite bands, I actually have waay more songs than listed but I really don't want to type them all out, I wish DAI would come back ; ;

Okay, I need some good J-Rock bands! When I like a few songs by a band I go and grab their discography hoping it won't let me down. Bands I've liked thus far...

X-Japan
Gackt
Nightmare

English bands I like (If this would help)

Symphony X
Kamelot
Nightwish
Dream Theater
EPICA
Within Temptation
Age of Nemesis
Vanden Plas
(And anything you'd hear on a rock station on the radio. However, most of these bands I listen to only on the radio.)

List Contin...

Plastic Tree:
Tetris
Utsusemi
Kuuchuu Buranko
Aoi tori
Namae no nai hana
Sanbika
Ghost
Hate Red dip it
Suisai
-Plastic Tree stand out because of their singer who's voice can be as soft and mellow or as hard and corse as he wants, Tetris would be a great example to see how he can switch easily, or Kuuchuu Buranko hear his mellow/soft voice that puts feeling and meaning into the song.

Gazette:
Cassis
Toguro
Kare Uta
Back drop junkie
Anata no tame no
Crucify Sorrow
-Great band, and just like those in Dir en Grey they love to wear tons of make up, especially the lead singer who often in some of the music videos looks like a masculine chick ><

Dir en Grey:
Inconvenient Ideal
Glass skin
Mushi
Kodou
Drain away
Shiikureta haru
-See Gazette

L' Arc en Ciel:
Kasou
Shinsoku
Link
Killing me
Niji
-See Dir en Grey minus some of the makeup

Yui:
Rolling Star
Life
I remember
Tokyo
-Her voice sounds incredibly natural which is great for a change, best thing not all her songs are damn upbeat which in my book is a really great thing.

Koda Kumi:
Take back
Color
-I got an assumption she loves to show off her hips since she always seem to be belly dancing in the DVD that came with the CD, anyway it could use some work lol, anyway nice singing voice and nice music vids

Namie Amuro:
Queen of hip hop
Chase
No more tears
White light

I really don't have a preference when it comes to music just whatever can hook me, one thing I can say for sure though is I usually hate incredibly high spirited aka a ton of godamn synthesizers in a song ie.... Musumes aruite I can't stand that band at all then again they're not geared towards my audience lol. I don't dislike all like that but the majority I do.

There is a band that I absolutely ADORE!!

The band consists of two singers actually. The band is called, "ON/OFF" and the singers names are Naoya Sakamoto & Kazuya Sakamoto. They are a pair of very cute and talented twins.

If you have never heard of them and want to hear some of their stuff then the first song I recommend you listen to is ,"Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi". Its absolutely stunning in every way. Some other incredible songs they sing are, "Rondo (Rinne -Rondo-)", "Asayake", "Signal" and a few others. They havent got that many out at the moment coz they are just starting off in their careers. My absolute favourite out of their list of songs is a beautiful one called, "Eien no Setsuna"

These guys perform with so much passion and they feel evey lyric they sing and that comes through to the audience. I highly recommend these guys!

I'm going to continue the list from the previous post. I'm surprised people haven't listed them or even heard of them, they're pretty good. Then again its pretty much my own opinion of course but if you don't like Jrock, electronica, loli/gothic,visual kei type bands you might wanna stay away from this list.

Aural Vampire -Shōnan Zoku -Cannibal Coast and Dark wave surfer
GaGaaling -i scream
GPKISM- Atheos
Nana Kitade-ファムファタール
Matenrou Opera - Dachura
Alan - Ashita e no sanka
Clear veil - Cold prey
Asriel - 思いの欠片と信じる欠片
Aya Kamiki-crash

Well, for J-rock I recommend some visual kei bands, beside L'Arc~en~Ciel(of course) some of them are the gazette, alice nine, miyavi, lm.c. For me the gazette is a must (if you like this kind of music)..
And for J-pop I recommend Utada Hikaru or YUI, they're really POP hehe :D but I like Utada the most. Try to listen to her songs: prisoner of love, apple and cinnamon, this one, come back to me, etc.

I actually like Sakamoto Maaya, but most of the female voices put me off. Anything except Visual key will be acceptable (yes, I'm not on the side of gothic-glam-maybelline guys). It would be perfect if somebody recommend something like Deli Spice (Korean) - jissai ni it's my kind of music.

Talking about actual JRock, I HIGHLY recommend andymori. They released their first album in february of this year, but they had so much success that they already participate in all the main rock festivals this summer (Rock in Japan, Summersonic, Space Shower...).

Anybody want to recommend some japanese bands/singers? I tried a lot recently but nothing really interests me.

I usually listen to rock/pop but I don't really care about genre. Here's an idea of what I like/dislike:

Like:
Tohoshinki
Yui
Utada Hikaru
Soulja
Flow
Beni(well some songs)

Dislike
Gackt
Arashi
Kat-tun
Big Bang

Im happy that you are looking for Japanese songs! They are awsome...Im addicted to Ryoko Shinohara and other artists that sing from the doramas I see.....Thats a good start, If you are watching a dorama and you like the song, well download it from Lime Wire or make a good search of the artist and etc....

Good Luck! :D

Remioromen. name doesnt mean anything really is just a mixup of letters, but they're ok for the type of music they sing.

Can anyone recommend me japanese music for running? I need something with rhythm , I don't care what style, but I would like to be trance/electro/ rock or remix, but anything not too slow would be good :)
