Favorite Japanese Music Show
Since there's a poll about variety shows, doinkies thought I'd make one about music shows. What's your favorite Japanese music show? I'd probably say Music Station, Utaban, or Music Fighter...my least favorite is CDTV because the CG host characters' voices are really high-pitched and annoying, but doinkies still watches it anyway when I get the chance just to see the performances and chart ranking (though they use their own chart rather than the Oricon chart).
My favorite defunct music show is probably The Best Ten, which aired from 1979 to 1989 (IIRC)...a nice doink has been uploading episodes of it on JPOPSUKI and I've got most of the ones that have been uploaded so far...I wish it was still on the air today.

Music Fighter... I love Aoki Sayaka teamed up with King Kong... their talks with the guests are always a hoot!
They still have quite a few weekly enka shows on NHK.
I wonder what will become of enka as Japan's youth ages... I mean, I crack jokes about how I love Itsuki Hiroshi and Sabuchan.... and jokingly do enka style clap-alongs to modern music... but, I never really can get into it.

It usually airs every Tuesday. They do tend to take a vacation every now and then, so estimate about 40 shows every year. It is recorded live at NHK Hall, the same venue as the Kouhaku. Live NHK Symphony Orchestra music. Every show has at least one of my favorites: Mizumori Kaori, Hikawa Kiyoshi, Horiuchi Takao, Nagayama Yoko, Fuji Ayako, Ishihara Junko... This year, they've been airing some really interesting formats, such as a tribute to Misora Hibari, Mori Masako's re-debut... And in one show, they even went as far as taking a camping trip.gryzze wrote:You got me curious on this show groink... Never heard of it. Does it air weekly?
I've never seen this series posted on the Internet anywhere, which is not a surprise as very little enka video ever appear on-line. There is one lady who sells the episodes on-line, but they're like $5 a disc. I get it via TV Japan.

Yay! I'm not the only fan of Best Ten. Ah for the days of Wink and Bakafu Slump and Hikaru Genji (roller-skating on top of Tokyo Tower no less )
Music Station is pretty much it for me at the moment, though I will watch all the year end specials. CDTV's year-end really impressed me last year, but I haven't been able to get into the series itself. Same with Heyx3.
If I could just get a TV Asahi satellite feed... I think I would never leave the house.

Music Station was the first music show I've watched weekly, and I think it's still my favorite. I like how there's many artists singing their new songs in each episode, which helps me decide which song to download or buy.
I also like Utaban, because they get more in-depth with the singers, and usually it's really funny.
Nothing beats Kouhaku at end of each year though. I've been watching it every single year since at least '93, and I love hearing the best songs of the year and fantastic stage/costumes. Also, I get to see/hear best Enka songs on TV.

I think 2006 was a weak year too...hikkichan wrote:It just ended over an hour again...
Kind of "meh" this year... Rip Slyme kind of botched things up by not being ready on time and you could see Tamori get a little peeved.
Aside from that, you just didn't really feel "the season" with the show...
Anyways, I see you uploaded part one in Jpopsuki already. Thanks~
How many parts in total?
Music station is the best..
Music station has the most variety of performers to me. They even invited red hot chilli peppers and that episode was hella funny. One member flirting with koda kumi. LOL The only thing i don't like about it is that they usually make the j-rock bands play in sync with a music track and only the vocalist gets to perform live. But anyway, music station rocks!
PS: anybody know where to get MS now? Jpopsuki has been down for so long that I missed out many episodes.

RE: NHK Song Concert
Hello, does anyone post this show on the web? My mom is using a c.1980 cassette tape recorder and I wanted to just use audio CD for her instead. Thanks!groink wrote:WARNING: Old man on the premises...
My favorite musical show is NHK歌謡コンサート (NHK Kayo KONSATO or NHK Song Concert). Virtually ALL enka and kayo music.

my old! favorites
I used to like Night Hit Studio or Hit Night Studio (not sure which) and Music Fair. Occasionally, I see bits and pieces of those shows (music only) on YouTube.
The current crop of shows I don't get to watch. TV Japan is available here in America, but we don't subscribe. My wife fears she'd be watching it 30 hours a day.
I used to get NHK World, but quit watching it after they went to the current system to be in competition with the BBC.
