I'm Pollish, Dutch on one side, and Scottish, "Brittish" on the other. "British" because I'm not sure where my grandmother's from. She's formerly a newfie, but before that I just know Britain somewhere. I'm Canadian through and through though, and I don't claim to be anything else.

But my parents are from Taiwan, so that makes me Taiwanese.

aaaaw, again Pacific Islander gets clumped in w/ other

 it's okay....I'm a few of those on the list...but usually I just put Pacific Islanders on applications, etc. Interesting poll tho :)
Same here, fall in "other" category....I come from a long line of chieftains...I'm a Pacific Islander.....

I'm 1/8 chinese and the rest is viet. I didn't think there would be more viets than koreans on the poll since a lot of the movies are korean, chinese, or japanese.

my grandma`s grandma was russian :lol but she married my great great (great?) grandpa, so does that make me 1/16 (1/32?) russian? i don`t look any russian, and i don`t speak any russian...

btw, are you a guy or a girl? cuz hehe if you were a guy, and thought a 40 year old with a russian accent talking to his son was sexy, that`d be kinda creepy heheh :lol

come to think of it, it`d also be kinda creepy if a girl thought that, too XD XD

Ya Korean characters are cool. I always wondered if people had different accents in different languages..

Russian? hmm... never heard that before. I like scottish or irish accent.. My friends parents are both irish and are really funny when they drink cause I can't understand them one bit(I guess that can happen without an accent.)

I shouldn't be rude and to any russians here im sorry for saying this but the russian language scares me lol. They always sound like they are mad.

I wish I learnt another language when I was a kid cause now that im older and trying English is just so much backwards compaired to other languages..

HAHA your comment about your parents made me laugh out loud :lol

and yeah, russian does seem kinda scary... but you know what scares me, HEBREW... because my fricking jewish neighbors scream at each other every other minute, and it`s hebrew here, hebrew there, some glass breaking, some kids crying.... it`s creepy :blink

but hebrew the language itself isn`t bad... :-)

japanese is CUTE! and korean is sometimes funny, like they make sounds from the back of their throat... but that actually applies even more to French XD

i still think mandarin is the best language of them all (my opinion!!!), because you have so many more adjectives to describe things. to me, english just plain sucks, because you can`t express what you want for the lack of adjectives. plus mandarin sounds so nice :-) and english is like.... not as nice XD

but this is all just my opinion, don`t mind me

Ya mandarin is an intresting language.. Although unlike japanese I have no idea what people are saying lol. I think another factor why I can't really learn another language is because I don't understand english. Like verb...noun...adjective.. All forien yet I speak it lol. Lucky people who got the benifit of learning another language at an early age.. I really though should have just listened in english class and french. I spoke a bit of spanish once.

Ya im suprised Mexico(North america for that matter...errr....well I guess someone said we are not an ethnicity but mexico would) or even south america or central america wasnt avalible...

You said you spoke mandarin with an accent but wasnt it your first language? I guess when you are 5 the way you speak is just forming. I can't pick up accents in other languages. Bad example but in the jdrama Summer snow the character Jun who supposely talks funny.. I can't tell LOL sounds perfectly fine to my ears.

^___^ it`s ok-lah. there`s this show on TV right now, where this Japanese girl from the drama speaks chinese, and she has the cutest accent XD also, in love contract, the uncle has an accent.

japanese people trying to speak chinese have the cutest accent, and american people trying to speak chinese have the funniest accent i have ever heard (try teaching your teacher XD mine took like 3 months just learning how to say "新年快樂" (Happy New Year), and when he did learn it, he went around saying it all the time :blink )

once i was on the phone with my mom, and he walked by saying "新年快樂!" with the strangest accent (he`s like half japanese, half european), and my mom was like "who was that saying '新年快樂' in the weirdest accent?" it was pretty funny :lol

This maybe a stupid question or impossible to explain but what do the japanese speaking mandarin sound like? To me Mandarin sounds rythmic too but I guess different from the sounds the japanese make. Or what do us english foke sound like lol? I wonder if a british person speaking Mandarin would have a different accent than someone from north america.

I think everyone has an accent, they just don't know it? Even though we all speak English, we have different dialects because we live in different regions. I wonder if that made sense...

This is true. In the USA, South, Midwest, East, and West all talk differently. It's not just the pronunciation, it's a different dialect as well. I took this online test to find out what kind of English I spoke, I scored a Yankee, which is true b/c I live in NJ/NY area.

from my experience, there isnt much variation in dialect. but thats prob cos mandarin is their mother tongue. but wen a langauge aint ur first lang thats a whole diff ball game. when me and my canadian cousin attempt to speak vietnamese..we confuse the hell outa our parents cos they cant tel we're trying to say the same thing. pronouniation is important

I used to answer this question as "I belong to the only important race....human...blah blah blah". Now I use "other" as I have more geographic, ethnic and nationality-wise mixes in me than most, although I suppose that comes from being an American. An American with Asian and Pacific Island (Japanese and Filipino) East European (Polish) Mediterranean (Greek). And then I suppose you can take into account that all those areas, with the exception of Japan (excluding WWII), were conquered and reconquered from invaders from diverse places such as the Middle East(Persia, the Turks, the Arabs) and the far steppes of Russia and Central Asia(Tatars and Mongols) and I suppose that blood has to be included and which leaves me with the inescabable fact that my ass is a member of the HUMAN RACE...lol
IF THERE WERE NO WOMEN IN THE WORLD WHAT A MISERABLE EXISTENCE THIS WOULD BE (not to mention none of us would be here....THANKS MOM!!!)
