Ueno Juri, 1 dorama 5 roles

Actress Ueno Juri (23) is going to play 5 different roles in the WOWOW short dorama "Ueno Juri to Itsutsu no Kaban" ("Ueno Juri and the bags of five" or rather "..and the 5 bags"). Known names like the scriptwriter of "Densha Otoko" Kaneko Arisa or the "Tennen Kokekko" director Yamashita Nobuhiro are going to tell stories related to bags, along with several other young directors and writers. Each of the stories will have Ueno in the starring role and it will be interesting to see 5 totally different faces of her in one and the same dorama.

As mentioned above, it’s not going to be a full-length dorama. Each episode will be 30 minutes long and feature a different story. The main characters of each story will be very different from each other. Ueno will have to play a woman with great guitar and singing abilities, a woman that gets locked in an elevator, a woman going on a flight trip, a confused woman that suddenly gets a call from an old childhood friend and a woman that is trapped in a time-loop ala "Groundhog Day" with her birthday repeating itself day after day.

"It’s fun to work with each of those fascinating directors and writers who all have a different and unique outlook on the world. The stories are going to be short, but from the planning stage I can already tell that they are still going to be very deep." Ueno said with a lot of confidence. It’s a new situation for her as well, to play 5 different roles in such a short time, but she seems to be very ambitious about this project. "I don’t think that you often have the chance to see such a interesting project, so you definitely shouldn’t miss it! It’s a short project this time, but I want to try out various things besides the typical long doramas and I hope you are still going to support it."

This time Ueno is also going to show her other talents when singing the ending song called "Kaban no Banka" (temp). The song is very impressive and has a very fresh melody. Ueno isn’t a complete newbie when it comes to singing, in 2007 she already had her CD debut with the "Nodame" song "Onara Taisou". Fans can be looking forward to get wowed by her acting and her singing in "Ueno Juri to Itsutsu no Kaban".

The short-dorama is going to start airing on September 03.

I really hope a fansub group will make sub for this, plus it's only 5 episodes, and with Juri you CANNOT go wrong no matter how bad the script is (look at Last Friends hehehe)

i know. but i assume they will be putting a hardsubbed stream on their site. i'm hoping someone will put out softsubs for the raws (hopefully, someone will upload raw files, as well). i like to download and archive stuff, especially stuff involving juri.

Ah, I gotcha. :thumright:

Yeah, I'd prefer the raws and softsubs as well.

I suppose if there were a way to save the stream/hardsub, the subs could possibly be ripped for softsubs....

I don't know what you thought, but viikii is just a site that allows you to add text/subs to vids that are hosted on other sites like youtube.
bmwracer wrote:I suppose if there were a way to save the stream/hardsub, the subs could possibly be ripped for softsubs....
It is possible to rip the subs and has been done before. Over at aja-aja.com, there are shows that didn't have eng subs, so some users took the subs that were on viikii and uploaded them to MU as soft subs (.srt). Take for example http://aja-aja.com/regular/that-fool , you'll notice the link "Viikii Sub Ep7-16" :-)

@HypnoSurf22: I just DL & install this morning, BitTorrent 6.2.
Is it any good? I've nvr done p2p b4 Is everyone using utorrent?
Since I changed my comp, I'm using the old one for DL'ing purpose.
If everything goes 'smoothly', I can watch this in HD in abt... 2days 13hrs time. :|
In the mean time, I'll just catch it on viikii~

Edited: I've watched a few secs of the opening this morning b4 work, I'm already liking it so much.
If they are releasing the DVD, whether is its eng subbed or not, I'm getting it. :P

Did you set up Port Forwarding?

You need to do that in order to get maximum speed and not have any Firewalls block downloading/uploading...

See this site: http://www.portforward.com/default.htm

But the speed still varies alot, I think due to the poor net services I'm having. :-(

Yeah, my ISP has been sorta flaky too, but I managed to get it all downloaded...

The subs over at viikii.net are not only out of sync (1 of 3), but incomplete as well (3 of 3): the point of the story is completely lost.... :(

Hi everyone, it's my first post here on d-addicts...

Bmwracer, I wrote you back on viikii but I wanted to write it here as well, just to clarify some things.

At the time you were trying to watch a video (the 1of3 one), I was reuploading it and fixing the timing (when I was uploading it for the first time, something went wrong and the file was different from the original one). I'm sorry that you didn't notice the video description saying that the video is being fixed and asking everyone to come back and watch it later. Now everything is fine.

As for the fact that the subs are still incomplete (part 3of3), well, I'm sorry but we are still working on it. I uploaded the videos 12 hours ago so it is still great that 2 parts are almost completely subbed. Unfortunately, I can't sub it all myself as I'm still learning Japanese. I count on help of other Viikii subbers.

I read that someone had problems with turning the subtitles on. Just click the "subtitle on" key. You can also turn on or turn off comments or switch the subtitle language when other language versions become available.

To sum up, I hope that even though you encountered some problems, you will come back and watch UJ and the Five Bags on Viikii.net.

And for the future, I think that generally we can assume that if nothing goes wrong, new episodes will be uploaded by Saturday morning (UTC) and subtitles will be complete by Sunday evening (UTC).

just finished the 1st ep. The subs are incomplete so I can't really digest what exactly is going on, but Juri's singing is cute and funny! Especially the 1st song she did about the policeman stopping her, LOL :lol

There's a twist int he story which I can't understand, so hopefully the subs will be complete soon, I'll watch again ^^

Yeah, that was really funny, thanks to her staccato delivery... :D
There's a twist int he story which I can't understand, so hopefully the subs will be complete soon
My thoughts exactly.

I can't wait to watch the 2nd episode nxt week too :-)
The only part I dunt get was the ending at the restaurant with 3 of them being together. What's their relationship like, do they actually know each other in the beginning?

I was so worry that the chief was gonna 'enlarge' the mole on the printout of the suspect, while he was doodling~ That will make make Juri a 'suspect' ne~ :lol

LOL, seems like everyone has had the same reaction.

I wonder if the Japanese viewers have had the same problem.....

Really weird relationship between the cop and his wife. What kind of person totally ignores their housemate like that when he comes home, let alone a spouse? Of course, from the phone call before, you can tell he is a bit of a jerkass, but that was one poisonous marriage.

I just can't figure the relationship between the three women. Why were UJ and her sister even involved with this couple? How did UJ's sister wind up with the money the cop stole?

^ She's listening to music with the earphones on , tat's probably why she didn't notice he came home.
Plus the bruises on her legs, indicating DV (IMO) Look, the guy even hope his wife will fall 'fly' off the balcony.
And I'm quite sure the phone call was from some other girl other then his wife.
Both Ueno & her sister are like the good samaritans or rather the 'Robin Hood' stealing from the bad and giving the money to the needy. The last job they did was to steal back the money from a company tat 'con' other people's money and life savings.
The sisters gave the money back to their respective owners in the end.

This short film was a little nonstandard~ like Kame wa igai to hayaku oyogu

I suppose... But there was more time for development in the movie.

25 minutes didn't seem like enough time to flesh out the story.

Can't wait for the next episode too. It would be really nice to watch a panic person trapped in an elevator. What would have happened inside? Interesting...

is there anyone that is willing (or knows anyone willing) to use nalnerii's subs from viikii.net to make softsubs? she said she wouldn't mind if someone used her subtitles to make softsubs, you would just have give credit to them. although, she may have to get the rest of the group's "ok" first. hopefully we can have some subs to watch with the hq files here on d-addicts.

We're in luck: I got a script file from a software person here that will extract the subtitles from viikii.net to create softsubs... :thumright:

I just need to try it out and see if the subs are in sync with the D-Addicts releases. :)

Can someone check with nalnerii and his group if it's okay to distribute the subs and if it's okay to release them here at D-Addicts?

^But the subs are incomplete, non?
I guess it will be challenging to merge them since the film was divided into 3 parts, so thanks for the effort!

Highly anticipated~ its tomorrow!! :roll

Merging isn't really that much of a challenge: I've done this before. :thumright:

Actually I'm a girl :-) so not he, his but she, her... :-D
Anyway, I will ask other Jap-Eng viikii subbers whether they are okay with it.

And BTW, if you merge our subs, they should be in sync with the videos available here as I downloaded the video from D-addicts and divided it into 3 equal parts.

Okay, the person responsible for the majority of our Jap-Eng translation not only agreed to the idea of making softsubs but would like to be involved in it. I think other translators won't mind it either...
Bmwracer, please read the following topic: http://www.viikii.net/channels/goto/5bags#TOPIC/880 and contact Samshikmomo via her inbox on viikii page. (If you click on her name, you will be redirected to her page).

Have just watched the second episode, HOPE. Oh my goodness!! I'm truly amazed by Juri chan's acting. I was like doki doki and nervous when watching this episode. The background music is so great as it adds a lot of feelings into the story. The story plot is very simple but it came out so sophisticated. I can't praise enough all the staff, moreover Juri chan. Sugoi!! Looks like it's gonna be my favorite episode. :thumright:
