Hey people,

I'm looking for some romance drama with minimal melodrama, something like Kekkon Dekinai Otoko.

Some requirements are:
1) Real actors (no JE idols please...except the guy from 1L of Tears. He can actually act)
2) No shoujo genre
3) Again, minimal melodrama (Zenkai Girl...dropped it because it's just...too much)

I'm okay whether it be lighthearted or dark/serious. Romance doesn't have to be the main focus, but some chemistry between the main characters would be good :)

Examples of drama I enjoyed recently are Jin S1 (just brilliant) and Byakuyako.

Thanks!!!!!

@Domerr, check Long Vacation or maybe Koi no Chikara.

I liked Koi ga Shitai x3 and Love Shuffle for more serious and twisted story, but has no focus on single pair.

Hi guys, long time no see :).

I haven't watched any j-dramas for a while now (think the last one i watched was Buzzer Beat) and I want to get back in. Any suggestions on good shows lately?
I'm not looking for super serious shows, but if they're good feel free to reccomend them.
Other than that I don't really have any preferences, so just reccomend away :D

thanks

edit: I decided to just list some of my favorite shows, making reccomendation a bit easier

My boss my hero
Hana Kimi (the new one is... not good :()
Buzzer Beat
Nodame Cantabile
Stand up!
Akai Ito

A bunch more that I don't remember the names of at all.

(I guess humor is a common theme here :D)

This romance is a dark tragedy.

But a great drama, with good cast.

Thanks for the rec guys, keep em coming! Preferably no idol actors though (e.g. Kimura Takuya). I'm not really into the whole pretty boy thing.

Will check out Koi no Chikara, Koi ga Shitai x3, and Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi. Already watched Densha, Nagareboshi, and Love Shuffle.

Thanks!

Kimura is a pretty decent actor though.

Not sure if you've watched Love Revolution, but it's got some pretty solid acting. It stars Esumi Makiko and Fujiki Naohito.

I've just finished watching Soredemo Ikite Yuku and can recommend it.

Uniformly excellent acting and script. It has the guy from Last Friends - Eita, and he does a fantastic job.

The story is so dark though, nothing like the light comedy-romance flavour of Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, which remains one of my favourite dramas to this day.

you should watch osen. it stars aoi yu and is about her running a traditional japanese restaurant that is "behind the times." it is visually stunning-- she wears beautiful kimonos, great food shots, lots of info about japanese cuisine. it is very lighthearted and easy to watch. however, the end was kind of half-assed. :-( but everything else was great!

Crime logic with fun can be found in Mr.Brain or Kiina.

Matsushita Nao (in Control) is not really kawaii :)

Horikita Maki is in Kurosagi. For some people she is a cute actress for other a moving puppet.

It is difficult to suggest a good story, the preferences of the viewer are too different.

The only drama that comes to mind as a "must watch" is Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta

The others that were okay were:

1. Control
2. Zenkai Girl
3. Asuko March - due to time slot the ratings weren't great and then the drama kept being interrupted for other programs. the story was a bit uneven and seemed out of sync at times but it wasn't a horrible disaster to me at least.

I've been away most of the summer so I have to catch up on the dramas I missed. Can anyone recommendation me some dramas from this summer or more recent? I am looking for romance comedy or melodrama type.

Similar to Kekkon dekinai Otoko??

Post by Technoko » Oct 25th, '11, 18:50

Hello,

I absolutely adored Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, for me it is everything a JDrama should be; It's cast is well acted and always human, never over done 'anime', the main character (Abe Hiroshi) is not conventionally handsome or funny (within the drama itself) but he is so different from the cliched heroes we find in other dramas that I couldn't help but love him!

I am looking for similar light hearted, 'slice of life' comedy dramas with interesting characters, and episodes/plots that are not convoluted or repetitive.

As an example of what I dislike: I though Gokusen was terrible, every episode following the same plot and a 2 dimensional main character.

To summarize, is there anything like Kekkon Dekinai Otoko? :thumleft:

@Technoko

After watching Kekkon Dekinai Otoko I became a fan of Abe Hiroshi and searched for ohter doramas with him. Although its not as great as KDO, At Home Dad was very good but it lacks the "interesting (or better unusual) character". Also, the dorama Double Kitchen is a wonderful show with some great actors who give the person they are playing a very unique character (Nogiwa Yoko was soooo wonderful in this show) but its more slice of life with with a good portion of comedy.

Hey there. Im a student of japanese and want to feed my brain with more dramas.

I like family dramas, business dramas, comedy and I'm willing to try other genres. Could you give me some recommendations? No subs are necessary. I want to see dramas where the main characters are women, so that I can learn their way of speaking.

Ono Machiko
Matsuyuki Yasuko
Kurashina Kana
Shinohara Ryoko

are my favorite actresses. As for man I don't know their names.

Thanks a bunch!

@Kai13

If you like Shinohara Ryoko then you should watch Anego and Haken no Hinkaku - they're business/comedy. For something more serious you could try Unfair which is a crime drama. But if she's a favourite actress then you might have already watched them...

For Ono Machiko, I recommend Gaiji Keisatsu, she was pretty good in that one. It's a police drama and pretty dark, but I think it's definitely worth your time.

Just finished Soredemo, Ikite Yuko. Awesome acting, awesome script, and awesome opening theme lol.

Anyhow I'm back to my search mode again. So...I'm looking for some romance drama with minimal melodrama.

As I've posted before, some requirements are:
1) Real actors (no idols please... and this includes Kimura Takuya)
2) No shoujo genre
3) Again, minimal melodrama

I'm okay whether it be lighthearted or dark/serious.

I've already watched Nagareboshi, Byakuyako, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, Densha Otoko, Liar Game, and several others.

Thanks!!!!!

Drama similar to barairo no seisen?

Post by purplebunny101 » Nov 6th, '11, 15:58

I've been captivated by this series ever since it started getting subbed, but the sub releases are so slow (currently on ep. 3 and it's been two months). I'm not complaining, I'm really thankful to the person who decided to sub this, really. So to hold me over until they finish subbing this drama, I was hopping someone could tell me about a drama similar to barairo no seisen. Anything about an upcoming model and especially anything about a girl who is under appreciated and makes an effort to become beautiful. If you can't think of any like that, a drama about someone who hasn't found their purpose yet, finds it, then tries their best to be successful would do nicely. Any input would be greatly appreciated :D

P.S. please, no paradise kiss, I read the manga and watched the anime

There's a drama about a model-wannabe called Walkin' Butterfly. You may try to find it and give it a try. Still, I haven't seen it myself, so can't guarantee anything. :)

Walking Butterfly is good, but no subs as I know :(

A drama about fashion and deparment store business is Real Clothes (no models in there).
The main character learn about style/fashion/presentation and want to be sucessful in this business.

Just done watching Kurosagi and a lil disappointed with SP Kurosagi.
And Horikita Maki is damn cute !! >< just as u said, like a moving doll :D
Any recommended drama ?

The condition is :
- As always, have kawaii actress inside
- Not a really old drama.
- Have logic stories inside, like Kurosagi , BOSS , Liar Game. :D

Please recommend to me

Ladies and gentlemans. Can anyone recommend me dramas of maked 1980-1993 and fully / close to end translated. I was recently watch Sukeban Deka 1 and I'm at 80's / early 90's drama mood now. Thanks and best regards.

Hello.. I think my favorite drama would be SP (Security Police). Haha. Some episodes are abit weird (RECAPS). But I do like the actions and all that stuff. The two movie specials were not too bad as well. Junichi Okada from V6 really fits in the role really well haha...Code blue and rescue are also one of my favorite dramas as well.. haha

Wonder who shares the same favorites as me as well.

Can anyone recommend something similar to Mother? A sad story involving a child that turns out somewhat happy in the end. I've seen Marumo too.

Love Shiroi Haru! The series I would recommend as being close to Mother is Youkame no Semi though. Also a 'mother' and child on the run, and very

Anything good air in the last year? I'm up for anything that doesn't have a downer ending. Doesn't matter if it's subbed or not.

Drama that starring JActress and KActor or vice versa

Post by GuyFreakz » Dec 6th, '11, 04:56

Recently I have re-watched an old series named Friends (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Friends_2002).
The short series starring Fukada Kyoko and Won Bin, 2 star from 2 big drama country.

I just wonder if there any other drama that cast stars from Korea and Japan to be the main role...?

If you know please post the title here and if you could with the review (link) also so I can check it later.

And please forgive for my bad grammar, I'm not that good with english...

Off the top of my head:
-The recent romantic comedy this season "Boku to Star no 99-nichi" starring Nishijima Hidetoshi and Kim Tae Hee.
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Boku_to_Star_no_99_Nichi

-Mystery drama, "RONDO" starring Takenouchi Yutaka and Choi Ji Woo.
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Rondo

This post belong to the RECOMMENDATION thread, though :roll

I want something tragic. I don't care if the ending is happy or sad. Just something powerful. I love both Soredemo and Marumo. Just the new stuff since I don't browse d-addicts nowadays.

Trick. It's better than everything there combined. Well, if you omit Seigi no Mikata from the combination.

I'm also a big fan of mystery/comedies. Here are some of the BIG titles you're missing off that list (that are both mysteries and comedies) off the top of my head.

-Trick (3 seasons, plus specials, plus movies) -- paranormal investigators
-HERO (1 season + movie) -- lawyers
-GONZO (1 season) -- policeman
-Rinjo (2 seasons) -- forensic examiner
-Shinzanmono (1 season) -- detective

Rinjo is more serious, but all of those are very good dramas with lots of mystery and comedy. All are well-worth checking out.

Then there are the obvious Kudo Kankuro recommendations--IWGP is popular, but my favorite is Kisarazu Cat's Eye.

Personally, I'm also a big fan of Abe Hiroshi's comedies. He stars in Shinzanmono and Trick, and has a side part in HERO, and can be absolutely hilarious. One of my favorite comedies would be "Kekkon Dekinai Otoko" (lit: the man who cannot get married). No real mystery there, but VERY funny.

Here is a classic Odoru Daisousasen. Although Oda Yuji did a great job in this comedic police drama I cant recommend his other detective-genre dramas (Diplomat Kuroda and the Amalfi movie).

I found "Smile" to be a really powerful drama. I saw it about a year ago and it still makes me think today. If you have studied Japan and know about the discriminations performed against minorities in Japanese society, I think you'll enjoy it even more. This drama pushed me to read more on the subject. :-)

gondai: I haven't watched it personally, but I heard that "Unfair" was a good blend of detective and comedy type of drama. You might enjoy that one!

I'd like a J-drama recommendation please! ^.^

I've watched (and enjoyed):
Hana yori dango*
Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake*
Hana kimi
Ikemen Desu Ne

I want something with a nice storyline or at least interesting characters, and perhaps comedy but not corniness. Romance is always lovely, but it need not be OTT! I appreciate any suggestions! :)

Hi everyone !

I am looking for dramas ocurring on workplace and/or with job interviews in it.

Need to work on my keigo and job-hunting-related vocabulary, and somehow dramas work better for me than books (at least to start :))

Any recommandations ?

Thanks !!

I need some recommendations, please! :D I've watched a bunch of doramas and I can't seem to find any good ones to watch... I'm currently watching Kurosagi (it's taking me a long, long time to finish..) and Jotei (somewhat annoying).

Here's what I've finished:
-Akai Ito
-Asuko March
-Beautiful life
-Buzzer Beat
-Densha Otoko
-Great Teacher Onizuka
-Hana Yori Dango
-Hanazakari no Kimitachi e
-Honey and Clover
-Hotaru no Hikari (don't recommend season two...)
-Ikemen desu ne
-Innocent Love
-IS Otoko demo Onna demo nai sei
-Jin & Jin 2
-Kimi wa Petto
-Koizora
-Liar Game 1&2
-Last Friends
-Love Shuffle
-Lunch no Joou
-Manhattan Love Story
-Mei-chan no Shitsuji
-My Boss My Hero
-Nobuta wo Produce
-Orange
-Ouran High School Host Club
-Proposal Daisakusen
-Rebound
-Sapuri
-Seigi no Mikata
-Shokojo Seira
-Stand Up!!
-Sunao ni Narenakute
-Unubore Deka
-Yamada Taro Monogatari
-Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge
-Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
-Zettai Kareshi

I basically have only one request: recommend me a romantic dorama. :D I did like Jin and Liar Game for example but I'd really prefer the romance. I don't mind if it's old-ish. I even enjoyed Manhattan Love Story :)

What I've tried to watch but couldn't finish:
-At home dad
-Atashinchi no Danshi (hated it...)
-First Kiss
-Koishite Akuma
-Nodame Cantabile
-Untouchable
-1 Litre no Namida
-Strawberry on the Shortcake
-Tatta Hitotsu no Koi

Sorry for the LONG post. :D And thank you for your recommendations~
