Shinya Shokudo is back! Did it ever really leave for us fans?

Let's talk about what moves us in this delightful series.

Well, I guess I won't be the first person to be replying to their own OP...
First of all, I'd like to say that Shinya Shokudo has the best opening theme and sequence ever. The beautiful ballad paired with breathtaking evening street scenes of Kabukicho fill me with an intense longing to return to Japan and find my own special place to refuel and relax.

Secondly, on a more prosaic note, I am LOVING the fact that the dreaded cel phone, aka ketai, is not appearing as a lame plot device (over and over again) in this series. They're going to have start giving out "best ketai performance" awards soon, because the damn things are so ubiquitous.

So far, great atmosphere and tasty dishes. Speaking of which, will Master be getting a little love this season?

Heheh I hope he will.

I really love the opening theme too, it's like a lullaby to me.
Short sweet stories, calmly told and always accompanied with a simple dish.
Yes, it makes you want to go back indeed.

I wonder who this mysterious character is, played by Odagiri Jo, who come once in a while to the meshiya to speak some rhymes... probably master's son???

I absolutely love this series. Does anyone know if there will be a third season?

Well there was a bit about it at the end of season 1
I think the character played by Odagiri Jo is somehow responsible or feels responsible for Master's eye, whether or not they're father and son I'm not sure
Almost finished with season 2 not quite there yet.

There's a manga too and a few chapters have been scanlated, expands on some of the story lines that we've seen in the show and has ones we haven't seen at all.

searching "shinya shokudo manga" in the googles does the trick ;)

is there any dramas similar to this? It flows like a well-made indie movie with to gimmicks and very good storytelling.

Hey, SS fans, is there anyway to update the thread title, because happily, we are now at season 3 in this wonderful dorama? (I also misspelt "discussion", which is a whole 'nother lever of embarrassment.) :blink
Is Master (Kobayashi Kaoru) still the coolest? Why, yes, yes he is. I believe the Japanese word is shibui. :alcoholic:

P.S. Check out Master's awesome geta (shoes).

^ Haha, didn't even realise there was an extra s until you mentioned.

I finished season 1 recently and it was excellent. Really must find the time to watch seasons 2 and 3. Can't wait to find out what Odagiri Joe's character is all about.
 玉木宏、藤木直人、佐藤健... 大好き!
