The Semi-official Wuxia Series of the Month (May 09)

Post by abcd99 » Apr 8th, '09, 13:54

Welcome to May 2009's Semi-official Wuxia Series of the Month (WSoTM) Poll.

As the name implies, the WSoTM is dedicated to seeding completed Wuxia drama series with ENGLISH subs. Note that WSotM is not official yet. This poll is intended to be a test run. At the moment, I and others who have pledged to seed will be responsible for the seeding of the selected WSotM. Please make your pledge to seed the WSoTM in this thread.

I would appreciate if you're also willing to help seed. PM me. Thanks.

The vote shall run until May 3, 2009. The seeding shall commence at May 4, 2009. So, cast your vote now! The voting is somewhat early.

For the what, why, and how’s of a SoTM, please see this thread by puccakiss79.

Read this for the discussion of WSotM.

Note: Past winners of WSotM / CSotM are not eligible. The series nominated last month can't be nominated this month, unless it's the runner-up. This is to give other series some chance.

This month's choices are predominantly historical dramas. Enjoy. :D

Well, another great month of series hopefuls. I nominated Water Margin and voted for it...though, I really like Legendary Warrior (and similar to Water Margin is based on some real historical events - in fact, Xue Ren Gui was a real person..though his wuxia abilities may not be exactly as depicted ;-).

Hu Jun and Ady An in The Great Revival should be wonderful and Genghis Khan? Well, he was Genghis Khan...should be lots of fighting and intrigue...

That only leaves Wind and Cloud 2...which as I said last month doesn't even have Aaron Kwok to excite some fans...

The Great Revival was awesome, but since it and Genghis Khan have seeds at the moment, I'll vote for
Water Margin. The wiki link doesn't have much info but I think it's based on the Great Classic Chinese Novel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Margin

The Water Margin for me. Apparently, the Japanese version was dubbed into English and was shown on the BBC which subsequently enjoyed cult status along with Monkey Magic

That's right, they were the shows I grew up on and Lin Chun was more of a hero to me than Robin Hood.

Just voted for The Water Margin, never seen it and I haven't seen it available since becoming a member here, whereas the others have been available more recently. As for future nominations how about Romance of the Three Kingdoms, haven't seen this one before either.
Thanks for continuing WSOTM

"Romance of the Three Kingdoms" has been selected as a CSotM winner. So, it is not eligible. Sorry.

While I'm still hoping for Water Margin for May, how about Swordsman I or III for June?

Water Margin for me as well.

I've got this thick doorstop Pearl S. Buck translation of Shui Hu Chuan's "All Men Are Brothers" that I've been meaning to read, maybe having the TV version will encourage me to start it.

My copy is 1279 pages long. Has anybody read this? Any good? Worth plowing through nearly 1300 pages of text?

While I'm getting ready to download Water Margin as WotM for May :-) I'm also wondering about June. Other than Swordsman I or III, what has been suggested?

None yet. You can nominate one yourself. There are two slots left. If nobody make any nominations, then I'll make my choices. :)

Ok. Will put that one too. All slots are taken then. The next poll is going to be:
1. Wind and Clouds 2 (as a runner up)
2. Swordsman 1
3. Swordsman 3
4. Chess Warriors
5. Huan Zhu Ge Ge 1 (but please make sure that the uploader is willing to put a batch torrent. If not, I'll put the batch torrent on their behalf)

But don't batch it up just yet. Wait until it wins. Otherwise nobody will vote for it because of lots of seed. I'm sure it's going to win the next one up.

Talk about competition, I've wanted to see Huan Zhu Ge Ge for ages (especially since Tou Long Zhuan Feng won here some time back). Oh well, what ever doesn't win can go another month...

Has anyone nominated Lotus Lantern? If not, and it is eligible, I would like to nominate it.

Thanks. :lol

It's okay. You don't have to open up another slot. It probably won't win against the others, so can you just wait til June to put it up?

Excuse me abcd99... I was just wondering what happened to the seeding? No offense and I don't mean to rush you; but I'm sure that most of the people out there, like myself, are waiting for your great work. If you need more time, I guess we could all wait... and thank you in advance for sharing!!! :salut: :salut: :salut: :thumright: :thumleft: :thumright: :thumleft:

The WSotM torrent was outcompeted by the other three torrents I am currently seeding. What happened was that the upload slots were monopolized by the other torrents due to more aggressive torrent clients leeching on the other torrents. So, the WSotM torrent get seeded to about 10KB/s while the rest get a lion share. Now I limit upload slots per torrent and that should fix the problem.

I didn't notice that until some time in the evening. Sorry. To make up for it, I allocate around 600KB/s for WSotM until several people complete their download. Then, I fall back to my usual 100KB/s.

Yes, only 8 are translated out of 46. So, it's ineligible. Jiang Hu will sub the 2009 version, though. Stay tuned.
