What, you mean this week or of all time? The voting isn't over yet...

I think 93 last week was the highest from With Love.

It's not even done being subbed yet. Maybe after it's done it'll have a chance. To nominate a series, it must have volunteer seeders to get into the running.

Summer Snow is old news. :P Besides, there was a brand new batch torrent made and it has been well seeded ever since then. Even if it weren't, Japan-tv's torrents are fairly easy to get seeds for. You can get it here:

Anyway, WOO HOO SHOPPING HERO!!

SHOPPING HERO, GO SHOPPING HERO!!! :lol

I've been rooting for this series since last month's poll so I really hope that this series wins! I really wanna see some fun comedy injected into this forum. We've got soooo many angsty doramas out there. Please let some comedy come into light, onegai! :P

As much as I adore SUMMER SNOW, I really think that SHOPPING HERO deserves to win because it has so few seeders and plus, it's a fun, light-hearted series that will make you smile. It really is under-rated, IMHO. Give it a chance, ne?

SHOPPING HERO, SHOPPING HERO! *cheers* Pls vote for this series!!!!! :-)

Shopping Hero Encode Quality BAD

Post by pokute » Apr 28th, '05, 15:22

I downloaded the first episode of Shopping Hero, and the encoding is quite bad. It looks like it is a 1/4 quality re-encode of a very good quality sub. The encode is extremely noisy, so the files are large, but the resolution is low and most of the bitrate is going into encoding noise. I would suggest waiting until someone can seed the version that this was reencoded from. Do not bother with this version. At this file size a very high quality encode is possible. See epsiode 2 of Lunch Queen, for example.

Come on Lunch Queen is a NEW rip, just released and by a quality group. You can't compare them.

okay....

Post by pokute » Apr 28th, '05, 17:38

fine, then I won't compare them (though I don't understand why I can't, but whatever).

Without comparing them, the encode quality of Shopping Hero is really bad. It doesn't compare well with much, and, as you can see, it can't be compared to some.

Okay, is that better?

Sheesh...

I was sort of worried Shopping Hero was going to be weak, IT WAS GREAT!!! I can't believe we waited this long to get Shopping Hero. So many of J-Dramas have so many dull moments. This was great, well written, and fun!!! Very much like Golden Bowl.

I can explain this, there is a reason for it :) Shopping Hero is a Station Keal encode. They have encoded quite a bit of series that aired on KIKU-TV in Hawaii. As with many KIKU and KBFD encodes by other people, unless edited, it comes with a sort of "hissing" sound. It can be edited out with Goldwave, I think. I never tried it, it didn't bother me that much. I believe it is something in the broadcast. Also, Keal had mentioned several times in the past that they do NOT get flawless reception and frequently had subpar video as a result. It was something they couldn't do anything about. That explains part of the quality.

As compared to Lunch Queen though, it's a totally different encode from a completely different TV source and with a totally different codec. Keal encodes are ALWAYS MPEG-1 (for VCD). Yeah, capturing to MPEG-1 won't get you as great quality as DivX or XviD but it still yields a larger file size.

okay

Post by pokute » Apr 29th, '05, 15:37

The "noise" I was referring to is video noise, not audio. There is random pixel fluctuation all over the encode. MPEG-1 is not inherently noisy, BTW... I would expect to see blocking in high motion scenes, but not general noise all over the place. VCD's can look quite good.

My intention here is to warn people that are expecting good quality should download one episode and decide if the quality is acceptable before getting the entire series, not to bash the group that produced the encodes. I realise there is a fine line between the two, that is why I "suggested" that this might be a reencode of a better quality original... to avoid disparaging the group.

I've had the idea of putting some kind of quality marker in the first post when we vote so maybe people will realise it's no good. But I'm not sure myself it that's a good idea.
