I live in Japan, and it is wonderful that I never have to pay a tip. People give you awesome service just for being a customer.

And, usually employees speak to me in Japanese when I order, but I get annoyed when they try to hand me an English menu. One of the downfalls on looking Western.

Sadly, I cannot click any options on the poll. I am learning Japanese all by my lonesome. I immigrated to the US from the UK, and for around five years I've had a lot of ups and downs and I am still not through it all yet :-/ It also means I actuall cannot attend classes of any kind in the US. Whic...

surrealistic-destiny: haha! Just what I used to do and am currently doing... Bit of self taught during my latter high school years and now I am starting my semester of Uni and currently selecting Japanese as my language major (with Korean or Chinese as my secondary). I've been studying Japanese for... errr... 3 years now? And while I learned a lot of grammar, I couldn't really speak more than hello and goodbye until I actually moved here. I'm a bit better now, and it gets a little bit frustrating when I can't understand or respond to what people are saying to me...

Capsule hotels are the way to go. Usually they're cheaper as long as you're not claustrophobic. There are also a number of decent hostels in all the major cities as well as a lot of terrible ones.

And shopping at the 100 yen stores is a must :)

Satoshi is definitely my favorite Japanese actor. I think he's just amazing in that he can play different sort of characters. In Lunch Queen and Orange Days, he was sorta a shy boy... but in Dororo he was so different! Very serious and intense.
