What are some dramas that have wonderful Japanese settings, like One Million Stars...? I liked the small town setting for that drama. I'd also like to find a cool period drama that isn't a taiga drama (never liked those).

I'm looking for a fast-paced J-drama, like Bloody Monday or Zeni Geba in the sense that they are fast-paced and keep you hooked. It doesn't particularly have to be dark, but it must be intriguing. Looking at the list below, what might I like? Shows I've liked: Zeni Geba Bloody Monday Kurosagi Iryu L...

Whatever happened to the Series of the Week/Month?

It was really helpful and pointed out shows that I wouldn't have otherwise heard about.

I'm new to K-drama, but have some history with J-drama. I speak Japanese, but not Korean. All of the beautiful pictures of Korean historical dramas have caught my eye. What is the best and most intriguing Korean historical drama?

Are there any K-dramas that have storylines about homosexuality?

There's nothing wrong with criticizing a piece of work (作文). If you want things to be better, then you need to speak up. Criticizing something isn't synonymous with hating it. I like Jin, but I can still wish it were more realistic. If you think what we're saying is the same as someone calling out K...

You are right about Last Friends. So many viewers loved what's-his-name from NEWS that they altered the show. I found his character interesting, but they went as far as to make a girlfriend-beater and potential rapist a sympathetic character! Is that what they were doing? I thought, when he was try...

Quantity certainly forgoes quality for Japanese TV. Plenty of excuses can be made, like "Japan doesn't have a big market," but none really explain the phenomenon. It doesn't make sense to say Japan has a limited market because of its size and language barrier, and then in the same statement say Kore...

I find that Taiga's have really poor production values, writing and cinematography. As much as I'd love to see a good Japanese period drama, taigas just don't cut it. There are many American and English dramas that are short, especially those for Showtime and HBO, that are well-made. Perhaps the mai...

Japanese dramas hardly ever have notable production values. With a show like JIN they may spend a lot of money on sets and such, but the cinematography, editing etc. is still the same old cookie cutter stuff you see in every other drama. That's the real problem. In the same vein, Yamato has good se...

Dramas with the highest production values

What dramas have the highest production values? It's hard to find dramas outside of the US and England that get that glossy shine. Jin and Iryu seem to have received a lot of funding, but still aren't near to what Western shows like The Tudors or Star Trek might receive.

Really, a 200kb image would overrun a database? Even with a large number of uploads, it still wouldn't overrun a server. Not even close.

Well, this message is intended more for the webmaster to correct this issue. Like you said, uploading to an image host isn't a good option, and neither is piggybacking on someone else's server.

Uploading an avatar

I seem to be unable to upload an image from my computer to use as an avatar. I don't know if it's just a fluke, or an actual banning of users from doing that. If it's the latter, I don't think it's right to use what is likely another site's bandwidth to repeatedly load pictures for avatars. It would...

Are there jdramas, which revolve around bands(not classical music, like in Nodame Cantabile)? There's a movie called Oresama. It's a story where a J-rock star goes back in time to the 80s. He even meets a band player from back then who loves metal. The star of the film is Miyavi, who actually is a ...

I'm looking for some intelligent, stimulating Japanese dramas that revolve around learning, books, dorky things like that. I know there are a lot of teacher comedy dramas in Japan but I'm not into that. Samurai High School might be interesting but I only saw the first episode. I also like dramas abo...

Re: Re :

I'm not taking a Japanese language class right now, so I'm trying to keep my skills from deteriorating too much by using LangLearner through their podcasts. Tools like this can be a great supplement to language learning, but there's nothing like an in-person tutor. I recommend taking a look at Lang...

Maybe try Zeni Geba and Byakuyakou. Both are very serious and dark. Zenigeba takes the cake as the most intense drama I've ever seen. The music can get a bit overbearing at times, but they get a better handle of it over time. The whole thing is only 9 episodes long and the final episode is crazy. D...

I'm watching Maou and while it has a subject matter that's more up my alley, the acting is atrocious by one of the leads. He overacts sooo bad. I've watched Million Stars Falling From the Sky (whatever it's called) and 1 Litre of Tears. The latter is a great drama. I might watch Mother some time, bu...

I'm looking for recommendations for Chinese TV shows. I'm not interested in the stereotypical teenage stuff. Thank you so much, Kaguya! I've been using the Internet since the early 90's, and honestly, that was the most informative answer to any question I've ever seen. On top of that, it sounds like you've got good taste in dramas.

Please recommend

Please recommend me some Japanese or Chinese dramas. I would've posted in another category, but since I'm willing to watch either language (I'm studying both Japanese and Mandarin), I figured this is the right place. I'm interested in medicine, tragedy, computers, animation, action, suspense, and an...
