no, subs do not work with .rmvb files (not to my knowledge anyway). I believe you can load subtitle files for RMVB files using Media Player Classic. .. although i havent tried it myself I did watch some RMVB files using MPC, it works great... i know in the menu there's an option to LOad subtitle fi...
