is it necessary to watch the specials? is it worth watching? or does the story end on episode 11? The specials are, as has been said, prequels to the series. So, it is not necessary to watch the specials unless you want to see how Akutsu-sensei became the way she is, unless you want to better under...

Re: Joou no Kyoushitsu

Joou no Kyoushitsu was by far the best drama of its season. The first episode was fantastic at setting the mood for future episodes (although I still don't understand what the butterflies flying around are supposed to signify. Is that her trademark?). But because the teacher was so strict in the dr...

 I'm not sure what to think about this yet. The anime holds a special place for me, and it would be painful to see a bad translation to live action. Itou Misaki, though great in Densha Otoko, does not strike me as an Otonashi Kyoko. I think the character is complex and really needs some skil...

I must say that I share Skykim 's sentiments regarding the ending and the comparison with Long Vacation. It was an opportunity for Kitagawa to explore an alternate outcome. And those final shots were just too perfect to pass up. I also rated this one a "See it" rather than "Life-Altering" though. Bo...

Thanks for responding auroragb. I agree with your point that some parents are more stern the more they love their kids. (One of the themes that struck me with Joou no Kyoushitsu - another drama that I like a lot.) And this definitely plays a part in Rika's relationship with her mom. But as you said,...

Thanks musouka for filling us in on the differences with the manga. @awrittensin : Rika definitely did cry for her mom. (I went back to check.) I was really really shocked the first time I watched episodes 8 & 9, with Nobuko's death. I had surmised from various references that the defining school jdrama is Kinpachi Sensei. (GTO even makes reference to it.) It's a little more serious than GTO or Gokusen, but deals with a dedicated teacher of a middle-school class. Season 6 is available here with English subs http://www.d-addicts....
