If anyone cares to know, there's a Chinese food called Nian Gao that's also made from "rice cake". It tastes exactly the same as ddukbokki, but it's shaped differently - flat ovals instead of long, thin cylinders. You can use the oval shaped ones for the Korean dish also. I've seen this food (the orange colored) in so many Korean dramas and I always wanted to know what it is and what does it taste like?
