why?

Postby delsxyz » Sat Nov 27, 2004 4:26 am

Why you didn't change the file name?
This makes hell of a problem to old OS users as Dos
cannot read it.
You could make it the same as Dust Off's sub name.

Just wanted to let you know that you got yourself another seed. I can see that others are joining in on the seeding as well. That's the spirit :thumright: I'll leave mine running overnight, tho, it's not a high upload rate (~30kBs). Hopefully, it'll help speed things a little so more ppl can enjoy the drama special sooner.

Please note that the file name contains hiragana/kana entries and may appear weird if your computer does not support Japanese language.

Cap and post to abmj by FK
Sub titles soft subbed by DustOff.

For further information also see http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopi ... 322fb4833d

the full file name is
ドラマスペシャル エースをねらえ! 奇跡への挑戦 2004年9月23日 上戸彩主演 WMV9 640×480 1h34m36s.avi

EDIT >> please allow some time for the seed to stabilize.
I got slapped by my router on the first run here so I will have to start slowly.

As for renaming the file. If youre file system doesnt
support the naming convention there are two options.

1) Rename the file by your own choice, suitably DustOff's name of the smi file used.
2) Not renaming it at all if it plays anyway. It would just be weird to have all squares in the file names.

You will still fin the file as it would basically be called a lot of squares and "! 2004 9 23 WMV9" ... and so on

I personally do not like to rename originals as they are posted in a certain way for a purpose. Also, (even if it seems stuck up :P ) I'm into JDorama. If my puter doesn't support JP and at least simplified Chinese, then I should find a new hobby and thats just my opinion and not to rack down on anyone but my computer when it doesn't work.

EDIT >> To help dos users.

To rename the file with all weird characters, if you don't like to use tools as Norton Commander and so on... do this.

Place the AVI in a directory by it self.

In the same dir make anew text file named RenFile.bat
Edit with favorite text editor to contain the following text

REN *.avi MyNewFileName.avi

Save and close
In the command prompt type RenFile and hit enter.

Now the Avi is renamed to MyNewFileName.avi regardless of funky characters.

oh... but I do doubt (and hope) noone uses DOS for this anymore.

Thanks for the the help everyone.

and for the nihongrish... :)

Just a technical alert on this avi file...

The video stream was encoded wmv3 and the audio is mp3. What does this mean? For the majority of folks (running Windows OS)
there won't be any problems viewing this video. For Mac OS X users, you will not be able to view this video as there is no wmv3
support or codecs available. You would think that Windows Media Player 9 for both WinBoxes and MacBoxes would be the same,
but this is not true. WMP(Win) supports wmv3, while WMP(Mac) does not.

Mac users, you can try all the different apps, Mplayer, Quicktime Player, VLC, but you will not be able to view the video although
you will hear the audio.

Ok, enough tech talk, you have been warned about this issue.

Read you backwards first.
Given this glitch there is no way to re-encode the file for Mac either since an encoder wouldnt be able to see the file anyhow.

I did not know this about Mac since I dont use one myself. :|

Hey techie,

The file could be re-encoded on a WinBox to divx video stream, since any directshow compatible Win app
should be able to open it... VDub should do the trick.

On a Mac I've read discussions about using ffmpeg to convrt to asf format and doing some other things,
but I'm not sure if ffmpeg even supports wvm3.

Yeah, I have Win and Mac boxes about 2 feet apart, they both have their purposes.

Had I know this before, I would probably have re-encoded it first myself but I'm normally against re-encing others work. Although I don't skimp on quality most of the time :)

Thanks for the heads up.
I'll be more of a curious George in the future when I get these files.

:-( :-( :-( I'm not able to download these files, because of the language.

How do u download a torrent file which contains multiple languages
I tried Azureus, but it won't let me download and got an error saying: file not found or does not exist. It also won't let me choose the encoding. OK, there is an Option to change, but it seems not working. At the first time i used Azureus a window popped up where i could coose the encoding and i could dl also files like this, but later not again. I reinstalled Azureus, but it never popped up.
Anyone knows wich things to do, for dl this file? I need it very hardly.

What. Windows 98 does not accept it???
THAT is way odd... You do have SE with necessary updates on don't you?
I never had problems with long file names on Win 98.

Q 1. Do you have JP language support installed with the Windows IME?

Q2. Does anyone know if this is because unicode is double digits and therbey must use 128 character names?

Also, please try to find the control panel language settings and see if you have JP language support installed, to use JP as option for default language in non unicode supporting applications.

Azureus does use the proper data set in this. I use it myself.
The machine seeding is not supporting JP language but stores the file data properly.
It is n the other hand not running w 98 of course. I don't have any machine running that any more.

I have only seen episode 1 and 2 so far. I am not sure whats coming on this but patience has been urged in the past.

I guess ap would perhaps know more, or someone else close to the EN-subber/s.

Q 1. Do you have JP language support installed with the Windows IME?

Yes, i had istalled it long time ago. but i had to use the Jamondo-File. Dont know, if it is IME. I think IME is only a part of XP?

Also, please try to find the control panel language settings and see if you have JP language support installed, to use JP as option for default language in non unicode supporting applications.

Hmm. Where to do this???

Eeeerhhmmmm do we have a W98Techie in the building???

I can't even remember from one o/s to another how to open the start button LOL
perhaps, and in worst case scenario this is not an option on Windows 98.
I think the IME is functional for both XP and W2K though.

Since you have Japanese language support it should be able to read the files since it's standard unicode I thought.

I bet this is something that would have been solved by uploading a renamed version of the file. Dang.... /*slaps self over forehead for two errors today.
(number two being "Where did the W in the torrent name come from")

I am sorry i can't help you out better with this.
I might have to re-make the file anyway unless someone has a better idea.

Please note at the end who played "Goemon" :D
I wont tell. /*tee hee

EDIT >>

I just checked the status of the file and everything else (besides previously mentioned language bloopers and file names) seem to be working fine.

17 seeders and 23 completed with 144 to go sounds good so I will have to drop off here not the choke the machines when others (locally here) want to use them.

Thanks for the help and I hope you all enjoy the clip.

techie,

I had trouble opening the special in VDub until I downloaded Windows Media Video 9 VCM (Video Compression Manager).

Quote from MS: "The Video Compression Manager (VCM) version of the Windows Media Video 9 codec enables earlier
versions of encoding and editing applications to support the Windows Media Video 9 codec in file containers such as
Audio Video Interleaved (AVI)....."

Anyway, just wanted to bring this up just in case Windows users are having problems.

-----
Dust Off had written something in his NFO. If I interprte it, correctly,
Someone should buy DVD (Sales in December I guess) and rip
it with higher resolution in Divx (as he hates Xvid) without VBR problem.
(And No interlaced avi)

Then, he would re-do Eng sub for Drama Special. ( He had mentioned
the same for "Gokusen Special Sub" TV capture. And he had made
Version 2.0 for DVD rip.)
And maybe, if someone bought DVD of the Dramas and rip the
same way, just like he had done "101 Kai me no propose: 101st
Proposal", we might see subs for the entire drama, too.
Aim for the Ace -Eng sub version came in with Ep 01 and 02. And the subs were terrible. In case of 101, there was only Ep 01 Eng subbed.
And Techie bought DVD.

Yes, of course, we must start gather at abmj and ask Dust Off
nicely about it.

Yes as ar-a-mach I believe mentioned or was it you... hmm I didnt scroll up before clicking quote, sorry, but the WM3 codec may have presented this glitch too.
I am not sure but I just watched the entire special and had no problems here.

Although I should say, I have like a gazillion codecs and options installed and run XP.

As for purchasing the Dorama series on DVD, it sounds like a brilliant idea.
I myself have just drained my account though in the quest to support jem as well as to purcahse another dorama related item :)
More about that once I get my hands on it /*sneaky grin.

I will look into my optional sources for the disk set though, but don't hold me to it right this very week.

No, I never said that. However, historically speaking, (I've been long enough to say so), if we could show enough "enthusiasam" with good reasons, Dust would reply with a positive answer.

Ex
There were 3 raw movies posted. Ikinai, Toire no Hanako san, and one
more title. Dust replied no to 'Will you make subs?"-request.
These two were among top 5 in Kloofy's most wanted sub list for
many many months. And someone asked him over and over and
he replied if there were 5 votes, and 5 votes came in for toire no hanakosan. Tore no hanakosan sub were found at Kloofy's and the
subs were bad. So Dust had made his sub.

And several months later, I asked Dust Off about Ikinai. "valoras" is
translating English from Chez translation. And when it was posted as
Beta, I again asked him to go over. Around the same time, several
others joined to ask him. After 5 votes, Dust made his Eng sub for
Ikinai. Valoras was first pissed, (as it took more than a year to make
translation, and Dust had done it in one day.), but Valoras became
happy about the quality of the Dust Sub, especially SMI format.

So there is a chance. One might wonder, why not ask him first,
before spending money to buy DVD.
He had already mentioned over and over. ; Just because xxxx was
posted. Just because I can get it. Dust won't make subs.
A poster must have a file and be ready to uload wav file when
Dust needed it.

I have an xvid version of the special except the resolution is 512x480... don't know if anyone is interested in that. I skimmed through with the subbes and they seemed to be synced correctly to that version as well

Actually I had no problems downloading the thing as it turns out.
It was simply that I could'nt figure out at first why it wouldn't put in the right characters more or less.

Even so, at this very moment the machine I had that "problem" (Read my own stupidity) is seeding the file. Without any changes whatsoever.
In other words, it was my surprise that I didn't have IME and JP support on that box that got me a bit in pieces.

It's a new secondary can instead of the secondary one I had before which needless to say have more lingual support than a Webster server at the time.

When I tried it on XP it too gave me a minor issue, but after making sure IME was installed (which is a simple install by default almost) everything works fine.

Glitches thereafter have been related to the IME input settings which neonkinpatsu helped me work through simply by clicking input mode hiragana and that is also totally unrelated to the file name issues in xp.

In short, any problems I've had has been related to an extremely steep learning curve.

EDIT >> Had to check first...

Further more, I doubt this seed would have the No 1. download quota at the moment if the problem was so disasterous and indicative of a major flaw. 155 users are currently downloading this file and that is app. 37 more than next following out of 98x25 files listed.

I doubt the problem is that much of an issue than related to old o/s being in use on very few machines. That the file itself has problems for Mac users, is hardly one I could have anticipated not using mac myself.

The next worst problem I see right now would be that only 7 are seeding and I will up another later tonight when things around me slow down a bit :)
Please folks, if you could keep your seeds open a little bit longer it's much appreciated.

I wouldn't necessarily say that.
Judging form the age group of most in these fan groups and forums, I would say they ar doing the right thing focusing on finishing mid-terms and exams before fan subbing and capping.

Good work all around from all sources.

Here is a snap from DustOff on Windows based player trouble and solutions.

Anyhow,
you go to Microsoft Website (or if you want to pinpoint it
use google search and enter" Windows Media Video" to get
MS site"

There you should download 4 files
and install all of them, just in case.

wmv9VCMsetup.exe
wmp6cdcs.exe
WMEncoder.exe
WM9Codecs.exe

I am sure you can play it fine with above files.

You never read NFO file?

Postby delsxyz » Sun Nov 28, 2004 2:36 am

If Techie posted Dust Off's RAR
it contains
MUSTREAD1ST.nfo
Open it with your notepad
and read it.

If you still have problems,
then, you should ask
someone else to read
NFO one more time.

Just visit this page too and follow instructions.
I assume youre on windows so its simple.
Just download, double click and yes through it.

Then you're set (or should be provided I dont goof up like earlier on this)

Of course after drama

Postby delsxyz » Sun Nov 28, 2004 3:32 am

Special takes place at the ending of
the drama.

Of course after you watch the whole drama
If you watched the special now, you must

A --Ride on a time machine.

B --Eng subs are so accurate, you wonder
about the integrity of 2 hard subbed
episodes (ep 1 and 2)
Because I felt it after watching this
special. Yes, I watched Ep 01
again after this Drama and noticed
many mistakes, which I had never
found when I first saw ep 01 long
time ago.

J-TV is supposedly doing the english translations for Ace
however they haven't really released an episode in the last few months.
not quite sure if they do not have access to the raws or what.
anyways the first two episodes done by J-tv are really good quality I highly recommend them if you get a chance.

I just want to know what is this dorama special (Brief info), not the info about the dorama itself! I already watched the first two episode of this dorama.

Thanks!

Here is a bit of additional interesting information about this Special that I just read up from DustOff on.

About the sub titles...
the following was posted by DustOff in ABMJ.....
=========================================
Have you noticed one thing?
1: Opening song
A tennis ball is white, but there
is no way for me to write it
white, because it is yellow now.
Yes, 1970's it was white.

2: Do you know why Munakata Jin
picked Oka Hiromi?

According to web fan sites,
one manga (anime) has this line:
Between Midorikawa and Jin
Why did you pick Hiromi?
'Cause she resembles Mom.

This line should have been included
in this Special, then, it maks more
sense why Jin picked Oka who had
no Tennis Skills at all.

Dust Off
I hope someone uploads DVD rip
in December or Jan so that I can
re-write some phrases.

Hello,

I have Windows XP and no MAC, but I can't watch this one in Media Player. I can only hear the audio and it looks like it's encoded.

Can Anybody help me how to watch this one normally?

Thanks

I downloaded both progarms but it still doesn't run good in Windows media player. I can only hear the audio, but the video is distorted.

Do I have to download another codec?

It seems that there are many of you having troubles to play this video and It's subtitles...
Well... nothing much i can do but to tell you that you should use the ACE mega codecs pack which can solve most of the codecs problems to play this drama with WMP. It has all the codecs packages where you can choose and even the vobsub indeed. So just try this by downloading at:

http://www.free-codecs.com/ACE_Mega_CoD ... wnload.htm

For the subtitles I think this can help a bit. I have converted the .smil file to .srt so it be like other subtitles that most of people in this commuity used to use.

p/s: better change the movie files' name rather than changing the subtitles' name, since i notice the name is in jap language...

I hope these can help you a bit..

Just to remind you:-
while installing the codecs pack, please ensure you deselect following options:-
1)Antivirus module
2)Media Player Edition Classic
- both are at the end of the check list options.

To make things easier just select following options:-
1) all AVI's and MPEG for CoDecS option
2) all DivX options
3)all Filters options; you can deselect things which you think are not necessary to installed.
4)and all DivX decoder.

Thats all.. once you install all of these you can simply click the video file and the subtitle will appear itself...
Just make sure both video and subtitle files are in the same directory/ folder with the same name..

cheers.........

mt877 wrote:Just a technical alert on this avi file...

Mac OS X users: Yes, this file does use the devil's codec, but as of last month the newest version of Flip4Mac will allow you to play this file through QuickTime. :)

don't download this version instead go to jtv for the same special with the same subtitles -they give thanks to dustoff at the beginning- this version is much better... I downloaded both just to make sure is the same special trust me! The only difference is that jtv version is in two parts... go here and here
