Episode 4 is now available.

It took me longer than I hoped because the language was quite difficult in this Episode.

I also subbed the Preview for the next episode since I've caught up to all available episodes and we have to wait until next week.

I used the raws available on this site. I was having some latency issues when I was initially subbing it. I will take a look at them and have an update within the next 15 minutes.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. If you or anyone else has any other concerns, please let me know and I'll do my best to correct the issue.

This is a great series and I thank you for subbing it.there were some minor spelling mistakes as well like in case when there should be your and you spell it as you, etc.
but overall the translation is good. I really enjoy it!

I've spoken with someone in regards to Quality Control and I hope to hear from them soon.
When that happens I'll upload new versions with the corrections.

Also, I have uploaded Ep. 5 subs. I have taken more care in spelling and grammar this time, so this may be my best release yet; but not perfect.

I've finally subbed the ending song as well because after listening to it, I thought it would be nice for others to be able to understand it and it wasn't as hard to translate as I originally thought. I'll probably go back and put it in the earlier episodes as well.

Thank you for subbing this program! I don't think I have ever enjoyed a dorama quite this much, even without the subs. And with the subs, I see even better how tightly written and well acted this show is. Thank you!

The end.

Postby fudgey_lumpkins » Sat Sep 03, 2011 5:12 am

I've just uploaded the 6th and final episode of this show.
I would like to thank all who have stuck with and tolerated my subs.

As I said before this was my first show and I often stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to release the subs in a timely manner. This often meant that there were all kinds of mistakes because I would be very tired by the time I finished. But I did go back and clean up everything.

So once again, thanks to all who looked forward to and enjoyed these subs. I had fun doing them and maybe in the future I'll do some other show; who knows. :salut:

Thank you, fudgey_lumpkins! I never noticed any serious problems, and have appreciated that you were obviously going out of your way to get subs to us fast. A few QC problems is nothing!

This has been such an enjoyable show! I have been riveted by the story telling, costuming and set choices, and the acting! Great performances all around! Thank you for widening my understanding it!

Thank you for subbing this drama.
I was suprised about the good story.

Hint for the future. The board game with the white and black stones is called go (igo in japan, baduk in koera).
please dont use chess in the future. It hurt me as regular go-player (my nick is based on it) to read chess.

Thanks for the feedback.

When I translate, I sometimes add localization to make it easier for the target audience to understand. I don't want to have to add notes on the screen just so people could follow.

While the game may have been significant from a symbolic stand point within the story, the game itself was not so important that I needed to be completely accurate when mentioning it.

To give a better perspective on why I choose chess, there were only a few lines that mentioned the game, (I'm going off memory.), once mentioning the cleaning, and once mentioning its disappearance, and maybe once more in between those two. So rather than explain what the game is or confuse people who may not know what it is, I simply said chess pieces and chess set. You can look at the game and see that it clearly isn't chess.

In retrospect, I probably could have used Go piece or Go set. Had the game been more vital to the story, I definitely would have. I probably even could have used the international variant, Reversi. I just felt, at the time, that the chess piece = game connection was easier than stone = game.

My intention wasn't to ignore or write off the game but to allow the viewer to mindlessly follow along as if they were watching natively. I don't know how knowledgeable everyone is on the subject so I focused on the lowest common denominator.

All in all, I am sorry that you were bothered by this. I'll try to be more mindful in the future.
But most people who actually understand what's going on tend to have issues subs, because subs can sometimes diverge from what's actually being said.

I see, you use a localization to avoid confussion to common viewer.
Okay. Please don't use reversi for this game, either.

You are right, it was only one line.

It is, like the food in drama. Shall the translator use the name of the food or use a more common name for it. For food I believe, the origin name can work without add notes.
If you translate for the viewer unknown game like hanafuda, shogi or go, it can work with out explanation. If the viewer want to know more, he can search with the name.
