Thank you very much! たいぎでござる。

While I can watch love comedies or crime stories without subtitles, it does not work well with a Taiga Dorama.

I guess that Taiga Dorama is the hardest to translate. Great work!

Thank you for providing softsubs for this. The hardsubs were just too small for
these old eyes but with these I can adjust the size as needed.

Subbing a taiga is quite an undertaking; I wish you good luck with this project.
And thanks again.

Good point.

With softsubs, each person can adjust then to taste. :)

For some reason I couldn't adjust the subs for this one, so I had to watch the episode with squinted eyes.

I use directvobsub for the subtitles. Any idea how to change the size for the Gou subtitles?

I think you can just bring up vobsub while it is playing and click on the bar under Text Settings.
From there you can pick your font size and type. Not sure but perhaps DirectVobSub must be run in administrator mode for this.

Sometimes I just go into the sub file and change the font sizes.

That's how I resize subs, but didn't work for these particulars ones. Instead it resized the subs that appeared whenever people were introduced.
I guess I'll try to change the font directly in the sub file.

Thanks for taking on this project.

My first period drama was Toshiie and Matsu and I've been a sucker for good period drama ever since. :)

There are different "style" formats in the sub.

You can change the font sizes in a text program. That's what I do with some of the ASS files with small fonts.

I convert the .ass files to .srt and let the player take care of the rest. :)

That will take care of the problem for sure. What program do you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you all for your support. I just attached the subs for episode 2.

As requested by many of you, I've made the font size bigger, please let me know if it's okay now.

The hardsubbed version is pending approval.

No prob! Thanks to qop123 and gryzze, I was able to get my hands on the new episode quickly and start translating it. The fact that ep02 is not the premiere episode also helped as it had about 200 lines less than the last one.

I also re-upped the subs for ep01 with bigger font size.

/facepalm...I got a chance to watch the first episode again with the bigger font, and I noticed a semi-major (ok, major) translation error on my part.

SPOILERS: where the error was
A couple of lines during the scene with Ichi, the young Chacha, and a katana :whistling:
I am reupping the revised subs (again) for ep01, sorry for the inconvenience

I should also revise the hardsubbed one with the new subs and font...

I agree! :salut:

I watch the drama trying to comprehend the Japanese dialogues (as an exercise, but it's a little hard from a jidaigeki), when I don't get something then I go to the subtitles.
Therefore it's great for me to count on a great job of translation, like the one we're having from Liubeibei. :thumright:

It's the same here. I can watch Deka Wanko without subtitles, but a serious story like a taiga dorama is too difficult. Too many unknown words, too many unknown places, and much talking.

Many thanks to those who provide as with subtitles!

Thank you for ep03 subs, much appreciated!

I read about the news that qop123 will shut down the Japanese Subtitle Project by the end of this month.
Will you still be able to continue translating and subbing without a Japanese script?

I'm looking into Chinese websites for the Japanese scripts. I am sure there will be a way for me to get my hands on them. The only thing is that theirs don't seem to be automated...so it might take a bit longer for me to finish translating.

I can't imagine how it would be to translate a Taiga without a script. It can be tough even with one...because of the way people used to speak and some of the words they used in the old times.

Will you continue releasing hardsubs for episode 3? Or will softsubs come first from now onwards?

I try to release both simultaneously, it's just that I'm still a relatively new uploader, so my torrent uploads need approval first before they'll show up under the regular category.

I had the same problem with the ep 3 subs. But I fixed it. Open the subtitle file in Jubler and then click the 'sort subtitle' button (two arrows pointing down). Then save. Should work now.

The problem is that the subtitles are sorted according to the order in which they were transcribed (line numbers) instead of the order that they appear on the screen (timings).

Interesting, didn't know that could create problems for some of you. But from here on I'll be sure to sort them first before releasing then.

I didn't sort the first 2 episodes either, though...hmmm.

Do the video and subtitle have the exact same name?
The subtitles wont work if they don't have the same name as the video.
Exmaple:
Gou - Episode 1.avi
Gou - Episode 1.srt
Gifted Ones | Twitter | tumblr | MyDramaList.com
Subbing: Gomen Aishiteru, Inochi, Ito-kun A to E, Oshin, Seoul 1945

Download FFDSHOW
It have various DirecShow filter from h264 decoder for newest ASS/SSA filter (at the site the are compilations by different coders using different compilers like optimized for Intel CPUs or AMD CPUs)

Download Haali Media Splitter
It adds newest and more refined usage for MPEG, MP4, MKV and AVI container.

Download Quick Time Alternative and Real Alternative as they are lighter and faster thatn originals.

With that selections you have anything needed to watch almost any film except for these encoded with exotic and forgotten codecs like Intel Indeo 5.

That's for Windows and it works with all DirectShow players - Windows Media Player included.

As for Linux... MPlayer and nothing more are needed.
Ah... maybe some nice GUI like SMPlayer.

And there is no problem with not sorted ASS subtitles since time codes are for subtitle apperance and not it's order in file.
I m going down...

Updated for ep04.

I know I'm later than usual this week, but as many of you might know, it's the Lunar New Year and I got caught up with all the family gatherings.

Things should be back to normal next week!

Happy Lunar New Year to those of you who celebrate it!
