Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo [Japanese Subs] (Complete)
Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo [Japanese Subs] (Complete)
Hello!
These are Japanese subs for Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo. With help from qop123, I am able to attempt translation of this series, one of the conditions being that I help provide the Japanese subtitles for the show as well. I have done my best to time them properly, but I am not a timer by nature so please let me know if you find big issues with the episode timings and I can try and adjust them in future updates.
Alternatively, you can find Japanese subs for this series from another source located here:
http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_86915.htm . I have no connection to these releases and do not know how they compare.
Note from qop123:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These Japanese subs are extracted from the original broadcast data with a program called "Caption2Ass_mod1".
To display Japanese subs on Windows, East Asian Language needs to have been installed, and at the option of the player, a Japanese or Unicode font needs to be selected.
(If you are using DirectVobSub filter to display subs, when you play a video with a sub, a green arrow appears at the right bottom corner of Windows. You can configure options from here. The Lucida Sans Unicode font can display subs whether they are in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese, as long as the text encoding is in Unicode, and qop123 uses this Lucida Sans Unicode font, with the setting of Bold, 36.)
The text encoding is in UTF-8. If UTF-8 doesn't work, sometimes changing it to UTF-16 solves the problem.
These Japanese subs are free to use. You can use them to translate into another language, or can redistribute them in another place, or can do whatever you find useful, freely as you like.
As many as Japanese subs are uploaded as far as possible, but future Japanese subs are not guaranteed. This work might stop anytime, though as much as it is hoped that it won't.
This Japanese subs extraction is coordinated by qop123, and if you are interested in Japanese subs for other dramas, and can manage to shift times for CMs and check the subs with raw videos and upload them to DA, please send qop123 a private message.

Thank you so much!!!
There is a SEVERE lack of shows with Japanese sub titles! It's nice to do reading and comprehension at the same time! I hope to see more shows with subtitles from you!

+1 to the comment. English subs are ok to get the idea, but the best is having the actual language subs for us visual learners to fully understand what we've heard.
I'm bookmarking this thread to check on future work.

Japanese subs for future episodes will automatically get uploaded there, usually within an hour after the airing. As usual they are not timed to any raw; it's just an automatic extraction of what's in the transport stream.

so all we would need to do is follow the instructions posted >here< to get them cleaned up? That's awesome! I hope i can help some if i have free time and it hasn't already been done by someone else
is there any specific timing program for windows that is good for making adjustments like this? Or do people edit the file in a text editor?

I like Aegisub a lot. It's pretty easy to learn; for this you'll almost only need to use a single function, namely shift times, which adjusts the timing of many lines at the same time.

You might want to break up lines too, since the closed captions sometimes have characters talking on the same line.
Example from episode 6s script:
Dialogue: 0,0:03:33.69,0:03:37.06,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,(ボブ)なんか機嫌悪くない?\N(ポール)男に振られたんじゃねぇ?\N
The ()'s on this line are to indicate which character is speaking. So first is Bob (ボブ), second is Paul (ポール). Unless they talk over each other, there's not much point in having these timed as one line.
But this would mean doing more than just shifting.

This program is good but only if the file is good. I've had some times messed up at the end for some reason and they were all at zero.
It was a pain in the butt to try to get something adjusted.I'm having trouble displaying these subtitles in VLC; all I see are squares
I'm quite sure that I have the East Asian Language pack installed on my computer, seeing as I can type in Japanese. In fact, when I open the .srt file in Notepad, I can see the subtitles just fine. I've already tried changing the text encoding to "UTF-8" and "UTF-16" from "Auto" in VLC and I've tried messing around with the font (changing to it Lucida Sans Unicode and so on) to no avail. If anyone has tips and/or suggestions to fix this problem, please let me know.

Took me a few minutes to figure out there was just some extra numbers, otherwise I was gonna go mad.
@dmohamed: This happened to me with another show I was watching, I opened the.srt file in Aegisub and resaved it (it saves it as an .ass file) and that worked for me. I didn't have a problem with these files though, but I hope this will help.
edit: need to sleep

@densetsu: I just finished downloading and installing Aegisub on my computer. As you suggested, I opened the .srt file and re-saved it with the .ass extension. After a quick check, it seems as if the subtitles are working. Thanks for your help.

Oh cool, I'll open it up in my word processor and see what has happened. I may need to download a fresh one though.

Thanks for your efforts! I had already finished episode 10 and the rest over the weekend. However, if you see things to change in this batch, please let me know!
