Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo [Eng Subs] (Eps 01-03)[dropped]

Postby essu » Sat Jul 24, 2010 9:21 pm

Image

Unfortunately, we have decided to drop this project and focus on GOLD for this season. There is also another subber for this project and we initially started this group to work on shows that have no subs. Since that's not the case for this series, plus wanting to focus on GOLD, we have decided to drop this one.

There is a very, very, very slight possibility that we will finish this series later on, but please don't wait for it ^^;

Thanks to everyone who watched the first three eps with our subs!

------ ------ ------

Synopsis
Kano Haruko (Naka Riisa) is a charismatic shop assistant who has such excellent fashion sense that she has been featured in fashion magazines. However, she is unable to give up her dream of being a high school teacher. Haruko is asked by her former teacher to teach Japanese to foreigners for three months on the understanding that he would introduce her for the high school’s Japanese language teaching position. And so, she becomes a trainee teacher at a Japanese language school where she coaches nine foreign students with strong personalities, including an Italian anime enthusiast and a Swede who is in love with ninjas, according to her own convictions, while setting her sights on becoming a high school teacher.

I am only releasing .ass subs for this project. There are various on-screen notes that would not work in an .srt format. There should be no problems running .ass subs with your preferred video player.

Thank you!

Wow, I think there is also a third party that is going to sub this. Anyway different versions only means that it is better for people that study japanese. So I think I'll watch all three!

Debut project for Hifumi Subs. ^^

I know someone else is already subbing this, but I still want to continue with this project. You can decide whose releases to follow.

Thanks for the subtitles. Just a little question about japanese...
"A yori B no hou ga suki desu".
I don't understand why everyone else translated it "I like A more than B" but I think only you did the correct translation "I like B more than A" because, as far as I know, in comparisions "B no houga" means that your choice between the two is B, and "A yori" means "more than A", so together it means "More than A, I like B better".
Can you confirm this? Sorry if I seem to be rude, but there's a great difference between the two translations...
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you are correct.
"Yori" means more than, and "hou" means way/side, so "A yori B no hou ga suki" would mean that more than A I like the side of B, or "I like A more than B".

essu's explanation is correct and on further inspection, I noticed I mistakenly typed the wrong translation, apologies for the mistake! I've corrected my subtitles to compensate for this.

Many thanks for your hard work (and I'm a translator, so I know how hard it is!)
I'm still a bit put off by the show's stereotypes and goofiness, but the learning opportunities are great -- thanks in large part to your subs. Looking forward to the next episodes!

Interestingly, I'm actually ok with the stereotypes. Maybe because that actually is how a lot of foreigners are. This is coming from experience as a Japanese language school student in Osaka for more than a year ^^;

There were those who worked hard at food places to keep a living, those who were there just to fool around, those who were there cuz they were into anime/jpop/etc, and also those who were serious, like Jack in the series. So I think overall, it isn't too completely horrible >.>

Good point -- also, in any kind of drama, you have to go for some stereotyping, otherwise people wouldn't understand the character. And they do take on some serious language issues. But the main thing is that it's fun -- hope you're enjoying subbing it as we are watching it!

Thanks for the subs.

Allow me to make a pointless correction for something trivial. At episode 2, the word 大穴 was transcribed in rōmaji as ouana instead of ooana (the kana for 大穴 is オオアナ).

Ah haha. Oops ^^; Thanks for pointing it out. I always just naturally end up writing "ou" even when it should be "oo". I think it's just habit ^^;

Yeah, actually many of us make that kind of spelling mistakes, since the "irregular" ou and ei are used way more often than the "regular" oo and ee.

Thanx for subbing this great dorama!!

Nice to hear those Finnish names in ep 3. Even though they might sound funny in Japan:

Paajanen, Minna Aho and Henna Pantsu...

Essu, thanks for subbing those three episodes! But according to your fansub wiki you've now dropped the project? Your subs were really good, plus I appreciate all the information/notes you included. If you decide to pick it up again, I will definitely watch it! Thanks again. :-)

Unfortunately, we at Hifumi Subs have decided to drop this project. I've posted the reasons on the first page. Sorry for any inconvenience >.<
