Hotaru no Hikari Season 2 [Japanese Subs] (Complete)

Postby vitcon86dt » Tue Jul 13, 2010 1:12 pm

Japanese subs for Hotaru no Hikari Season 2

Note from qop123:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These Japanese subs are extracted from the original broadcast data with a program called "Caption2Ass_mod1".

To display Japanese subs on Windows, East Asian Language needs to have been installed, and at the option of the player, a Japanese or Unicode font needs to be selected.

(If you are using DirectVobSub filter to display subs, when you play a video with a sub, a green arrow appears at the right bottom corner of Windows. You can configure options from here. The Lucida Sans Unicode font can display subs whether they are in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese, as long as the text encoding is in Unicode, and qop123 uses this Lucida Sans Unicode font, with the setting of Bold, 36.)

The text encoding is in UTF-8. If UTF-8 doesn't work, sometimes changing it to UTF-16 solves the problem.

These Japanese subs are free to use. You can use them to translate into another language, or can redistribute them in another place, or can do whatever you find useful, freely as you like.

As many as Japanese subs are uploaded as far as possible, but future Japanese subs are not guaranteed. This work might stop anytime, though as much as it is hoped that it won't.

This Japanese subs extraction is coordinated by qop123, and if you are interested in Japanese subs for other dramas, and can manage to shift times for CMs and check the subs with raw videos and upload them to DA, please send qop123 a private message.

Can you rename on to Ep 2? Confusing for my timer who didn't think 2 was up yet. I imagine the smaller one is ep 2.

Reading? Kanji, kanji!!
http://www.coscom.co.jp/ebook/e-2001kanji.html

Bone up on the first 1000 or so most frequent ones and life will be a whole lot easier!
Also, watching dual-subtitled EN+JP dramas help comprehension develop faster, too. (my ep05 is up! link above).

But why not practice like me? Take the subtitles here, Aegisub, load up both, and have your hand at translating line by line. Soon, the more common words become 2nd nature....

Thank you for working on and uploading the japanese subtitle. My reading skills have definitely improved. I wonder if there is anything I can do to help to put in my share..

Meanwhile I have been checking almost 3x a day for the subtitle for ep7 :)

From what I know about the RAW video stream based on the first post, the subtitle information (text) is embedded in the video stream broadcast by the TV station much like they are embedded here in the USA as well.

Anyone can thus take the RAW video (that big 1+GB version), run it through the program noted in the first post, and extract the full Japanese subtitles w/o much work at all as I understand it. (And then post it here for all of us =D )

------

This is likely what allows the Chinese subtitles to appear so quickly thereafter (almost always up the 1st or 2nd day of broadcast).

The English subtitles take more time, but places like Viikii have it up very quickly with each new eps, and Veoh does too in short order (along with TuDou and Youku) for various languages. All worth checking if you must see the latest in your language.

English subtitles, depending on the translator, can either go very quickly (native level, as fast as they can type) or slow (me =D only 2yrs of JP, so it takes 3-4 days, or about 40 lines translated per hour).

I'm also slow at mine because I adjust the timing to better surround just that person's lines, and try to do a bit of research to really understand what things like gakkushi mean (and putting up background info if it helps).

[gakkushi - derived from gakkuri, which is the onomatopoeic sound made when one is defeated or driven down by something, + likely conjugated, abbreviated suru - gakkuri shimashita -> gakkushi. This, naturally, causes angst translating it into English because there is no one-word equivalent.]

And mostly doing it for fun and to help myself learn....

---

So, back to the Q of helping out? Japanese subtitles - no need since it looks like a simple matter of running the video through the extractor and voila! perfect JP subtitles in seconds.

English and other languages - they can all use help. Just shout out and I'm sure a group can be formed quickly to whip things into reality. (Or, just do it like me on my own.... aegisub + video + JP subtitles will get you started.)

i thought you have to adjust the timing and such for the Japanese subtitle, if it's simple, how come it does not come right after the video is uploaded :(

What's wrong or different with the file of ep 7? It's surely different from the rest of the files, it seems like I can't use it...The file of ep 8 seems to be fine again...I hope I'm not the only one having this problem. But thnx for sharing anyway. Uhms srry I found out what the problem was, I used to open the files with wordpad but now I open it with--> (in Dutch it's called: kladblok->maybe: notepad?) and now the problem is solved.

I have to say thank you again vitcon86dt-san for making my Hotaru no Hikari 2 experience a wonderful one.
I would not understand all the story and jokes this much if there's no jap subtitle to help me out.
And it really helped improve my Japanese too. Learnt lots of vocabs from this drama.
