wooden platforms

Post by chrysanthemum » Oct 31st, '09, 04:50

Question... and hopefully it's not too stupid.

Is there a particular word for the wooden platforms outside of Korean houses? I've seen them so many times in dramas... and I think they are the coolest thing. At the moment I can only think of The Vineyard Man (where they ate breakfast) and in Attic Cat... in which it was actually on top of a rooftop.

Thanks.

Hmmm. Thanks for the reply.

I usually see those wooden platforms in Korean dramas, not Japanese dramas... so it's probably not a Japanese word... but I tried to look up osoto gohan just the same. I learned something new... gohan is cooked rice. Osoto only seems to come up in conjunction with judo. I couldn't find an actual meaning for osoto.

The mystery continues. I do thank you for the reply though, because I'll continue to be curious until I find the answer. I expect it's something really mundane, like "wooden platform," except written in Korean.

Can you post a picture? I could find only old-style wooden platforms like Japanese getas (they are called "namushin")
