oh noes.. i guess there wont be anymore kiina subs :( unless you guys find another solution such as hardsubbing your work or simply ignoring the streaming sites -_-

because the stream sites they don't care about the subbers and won't remove the videos.. j-drama fansubbing is doomed it seems.. :S

most of the fansubbers are used to and have adapted to the stream sites situation. i think now fansubbers should learn about these stream sites problems and decide whether they would like to get used to it or simply avoid it before planning on to sub.

I've never really understood how hardsubbing eliminates the problem of dramas
getting put on streaming sites. I can't imagine that a warning to not stream the
file in the subs would stop someone from doing it. (They could also just edit out
the warning.) I also find it extremely rare to not see a subbed jdrama end up on
ebay. Yes it's digusting that someone is trying to make a buck from someone else's
work but no matter what you do, there's always some scumbag ready to take
advantage of you.

I hope the subbers are more focused on the majority of people who truly
appreciate what they are doing and thankful for their work.

I am biased for soft-subs since I can control the size, color and hence,
the readability of the subs. But whatever the form I am grately that there
are subbers that allow me the experience of enjoying Japanese TV shows.

with hardsubs, at least the stream sites uploaders wont be able to edit the sub and take out the credits..

most fansubbers now take the option of hardsubbing and releasing the softsubs later on.. i think its a good approach for fansubbers to protect their work, given that they have given up with all the stream sites issues :)

I absolutely agree with you. Like what the ever wonderful Rollins has did, releasing hardsub first and then softsub later when the hardsub for the next episode come out. I think it's a wonderful method and it will eliminated the crediting and editing sub issue.

It's such a shame to see 2 teams decided to stop subbing because of those stupid streaming sites. Today is such a sad day, and the rainy weather on my side of the world does not make it any better

I truly support any team wanting to stop subbing at anytime for any reason.

I don't understand however, with the money making streaming site climate as of late, why any team would think their subs wouldn't get posted? That their posting would come as a surprise.

Releasing stuff on the internet is analogous to pissing in a pool... I purposely don't monitor where my subs have floated to.

Yeah, it's just a lost case either way, even hollywood can't do anything about the illegal distribution of their movie (well kindda...but still copyright infringement will never be eradicated) so it's hard for fansubbers to do anything beside minimizing the loss.

But that's a little different. Pirating a Hollywood movie means Hollywood loses some
income. Unless fan subbers are selling their subs what loss are they minimizing?
I certainly understand the pride of ownership but, sadly, that gets lost pretty quickly on the
internet.

Let's face it, if Japanese TV wanted to, they could seek to close down sites like this one
for distributing their copyrighted material (whether they're subbed or not).
Since they don't seem very interested in selling their product outside of a few countries,
I guess they don't see these sites as a threat to their bottom line.

I've just learned about this streaming site and went to check it out. Damn they have a lot of dramas uploaded there O_o. But I saw that the videos are hosted on Veoh, Yahoo (and probably others, I've just checked 3 videos ^^') so did anybody try to send an email to those websites to report them ? I guess if all their videos are removed, they won't be doing it again before a long time :glare:

Hi, this is the translator.

Thanks so much to everyone who has enjoyed the drama so far. You guys are great and I'm sorry that you're the ones who really lose out in this kind of situation.

I was surprised to hear that the subs had been uploaded on dramacrazy because I didn't know that softsubs could actually be uploaded on streaming sites. But given that it seems kind of inevitable, huh. :glare: I'm frustrated that someone is using our work to make money, since we did it for free on our own time, but that's the internet for you.

Thanks again for your support and we'll let you know if our production resumes.

Actually, they been removing the messages complaining that they shouldn't put the fansub video up or that the fansub have been suspended because of them.

Yeah I imagine they don't give a damn about the messages they receive. But I meant, sending emails directly to Veoh etc ... to let them know that those guys break the rules by uploading licensed material. I know that you can flag Youtube videos but I don't know how it works for the other streaming sites.

I've attempted to comment their Kiina videos complaining but was unable to, I guess they've had quite a few complaints and disabled commenting from unregistered users. As far as reporting their videos, I've attempted to but Yahoo has this whole process to reporting videos of copyright infringement and it can only be done by someone who owns the copyright (the network).

Yeah I tried as well. It's the same with Dailymotion, you can only report material that are yours :(

hi bjorno,

actually they took the softsubs, merged them permanently into the video (hardsubbed it) and then upload to stream it on the site (most likely they also remove any messages in the softsubs that refer to not uploading to sites, etc...).

there are sites, however, like http://www.overstream.com which allow you to upload a softsub, and have it "overlayed" (a layer, but not permanent) on top of the stream.
- in this form, someone could cut up the subtitles from the softsubs to match the streaming length in parts.

and then there's a site like http://www.viikii.com which allows multiple subtitles for a video, however, editable on the fly (kind of like a wiki for a video that can be edited by anyone).
- for this, someone could just type line-by-line the softsubs (or hardsubs, actually) to the segmented parts per video.

the internet sure got a lot more complicated...

-------------------

Please keep this as a discussion of the subs, not the streaming sites.
For questions/comments/concerns about illicit streaming site activity, please refer to this thread:

Have you considered releasing subs only to a private LJ community?

I've noticed that DramaCrazy has uploaded series less from those sources.

the only option left if you want to watch dramas subbed is to buy the malaysian dvds from ebay, the subs are understandable but not perfect :S

I understand and respect your decision. It sucks but there is nothing that can be done :( Thanks again for episode 1, they were really great subs. Going to watch the rest of the series RAW.

Adding my thanks as well for your continuation of the project. The drama was looking to be one of the good ones this season. :)
