Anna-San no Omame [Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby ZeeSeeS » Sun Nov 05, 2006 7:15 am

Hello everyone.
Since no one has started subbing this series I decided to start doing it since it's my favorite drama.
Translated by me and timed by Tianj.Special thanks to tianj for helping me with figuring out how to synch the subs!
Here's a website I found with a synopsis of this series
http://en.j-dorama.de/serie-121.html

Episodes 1,2 and 3 revised by no1ayupan

Episode 5 Notes:Riri calls Kyotaro's father and mother Kyopapapi and Kyomamapi respectively.I decided not to translate that so I just use Kyomamapi in the subs.
I translated Riri's song because I found it funny. I didn't translate Kyotaro's mothers because it was just a normal song.
The song Riri is singing in the contest is the opening song of Cutey Honey Flash (Anime)... song by Koda Kumii. Therefore it's not "Riri, fell" but "Riri, flash(Thanks to Karo for the info)
Episode 6 notes: Furitaa = young people subsisting on part-time work ,one whose livelihood is provided by part-time work

I asked my japanese teacher and some of my jp friends and they couldn't figure out what it means.Omame doesnt exist in the dictionary because the O is honorific so you have to search for mame. But mame means beans or corn so it doesn't make sense.
Btw , compared to other new jp dramas the number of replys and the number of times the subtitle files are much lesser. So I 've been wondering why.Is it that not a lot of people like this jdrama or people think my subs aren't so good?

I Just think it has nothing to do with the quality of your work, which is awesome by the way, it is just that people don't know what this drama is about, so they don't dl it much.I mean there is no synopsis on drama wiki so it's hard to dl files blindly , the actors are not so famous also. Maybe as time goes by, more people will know this series, don't worry :-)

I had considered the possibility that the "O" might be honorific, so I checked for "MAME" too. Most of my dictionaries only list the "beans, corn" definition — the word being written 豆, and pronounced まめ.

For whatever it's worth though, one of my dictionaries has a second definition listed for "MAME" (right after 豆), and that one is actually written as まめ. The definition given for it is "blister (on the hand or foot caused by rubbing against something)."

So, uhhh… since the title is "Anna-san's OMAME," but (as the narrator repeatedly tells us) Riri is the main character… and Riri is (in her own cute and lovable way) sort of an irritating nuisance for Anna… and, uhhh… a "blister" might also be described as an irritating nuisance… maybe…

Could it be? "Anna-san's Blister?"

ZeeSeeS wrote:Btw , compared to other new jp dramas the number of replys and the number of times the subtitle files are much lesser. So I 've been wondering why.Is it that not a lot of people like this jdrama or people think my subs aren't so good?

Your subs may not be perfect, but I've seen much, much worse — and that's never stopped anybody from downloading subs before. If the download numbers are low, it's just that the drama itself isn't terribly popular. As nadesico pointed out, there's no proper description on the Drama Wiki. No hype = less popularity.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for the subs!

ZeeSeeS: Assuming おまめ is in fact intended to mean "blister" — although not literally, of course — I consulted a thesaurus in order to find a more palatable translation. Treating "blister" as contextually synonymous with something like "irritant" or "annoyance," these seem to be the most likely candidates:

AFFLICTION, BANE, BLIGHT, CURSE, PAIN, PEST, PLAGUE, SCOURGE, TORMENT.

Whaddya think? I rather like the sound of "Anna's Bane," myself… but maybe you like one of the others better?

Or maybe we could just put it up for a vote?

Wow it seems that you really investigated the matter:P
But I don't think Anna has a problem with Riri.So I don't think it should have a negative meaning like the ones you mentioned.
If you remember Anna said in the first episode that she was an honor student and had no friends but Riri became hers and she kinda "saved" her.So I think Anna really likes Riri and she always calls her shinyuu(best friend).
Your explanation makes sense but it doesn't suit with the drama I think.
But I'd like to hear more opinions about it.Maybe you are right.

I think it's not really negative, so much as deprecatingly humorous. (Or humorously deprecating. Whichever.)

Of course, that's assuming that おまめ, as used in this drama's title, does in fact mean "blister." I guess we'd need a native Japanese speaker's opinion on that to be sure…

You probably have to ask a native speaker about what まめ might really mean, but here's my two cents for what it could be...

There is a phrase 豆知識 which means like trivia or quirky little facts or knowledge... So if you stretch it a bit, you can take アンナさんのおまめ to mean something like "the everyday happenings in Anna's life," in other words, all the little scenarios she and her boyfriend get into as a result of Lily.
I wanna stress this is strictly speculation, but this is what I can make out of it... :whistling:

Anyways, thanks for subbing it, ZeeZeeS, and giving other people a chance to watch (and actually understand) what's going on... This is probably not one of the easier ones to sub either, since there is a lot of colloquial speech. まあ、頑張れ!

Little beans of knowledge = Trivia. Damn, sometimes I love Japanese.

:D

Maybe so, but it's well-reasoned — and it makes a bit more sense than my "blister" speculation, doesn't it?

what an intersting discussion, japanese language can be so challenging sometimes, but it's what makes its interest! Although I studied japanese in Uni,I must admit my knowledge is quite limited, but here is my 2 cents:
both explanation makes sense: I mean riri can be considered as anna's blister, in the way she actually helped her at school: she was hurt because she was alone and ignored, and riri "cured" her loneliness. I mean you can consider "blister" like something used to relieve or ease a pain.
the second explanation seems really accurate too because it's the more plausible one in the linguistic way. I've already heard somewhere "little beans of knowledge" and it really summarizes the series.
As japanese language is a very elliptic language sometimes, I'm pretty sure there's a word play on the two meanings.
Anyway, I Thank you tao libra and quashlo for your investigations, that was pretty intersting!

I know this subject is dead and buried, and I don’t want to dig it up but, I just wanted to
comment on it 「アンナさんのおまめ」 title

Your standard dictionaries will give you usually three definition such as the ones
below. But it is hard to tell which one is intended because
They don’t write omame in kanji. But it’s defiantly not the first one because that’s a
adjective and grammatically it wouldn’t make sense.

忠実【まめ】
(adj-na) (1) faithful; loyal; devoted; (adj-na) (2) hardworking; painstaking; diligent; (adj-na) (3) healthy; fit; (P)

豆【まめ】
(n,pref) (1) beans; peas; (2) (as a prefix) miniature; tiny; (P)

肉刺【まめ】
(n) (col) blister; corn

But it actually seems to be a common phrase and I have heard before such as
お正月のまめ知識 New Year’s bean knowledge, but then again it could mean blister I
don’t really know. But I bet there are some Japanese people who watch the show that
don’t know the answer either. But I have to agree with nadesico the Japanese
language is interesting just look at the kanji they used for blister, 肉 which is the kanji
for meat and 刺 which is the kanji for thorn, put it together and you get MEAT THORN.
Sounds like a heavy metal band name to me.
So we could say the title is Anna's Meat Thorn.....Just kidden
I think what I just said go's to prove that ZeeSees is absolutely right when he said

ZeeSeeS wrote:Yea the japanese language is interesting.
Anyway I think it would be better not to give a translation for the dorama name.
Like I said before I've asked some of my Japanese friends and they didn't know.

But if I had to decide I'd choose both I think nadesico's right its probally a "play on words"
the japanese love to do it, and it fankly confuses me to death. For example in another
drama I was watching the guy kept apolpgizing saying すみません (Excuse me) over

Sweet Ep 4 thank you
You doing such a great job and you quality is great
I'd rather wait for quality like yours then have a fast release

I was just wondering on the title the little tag that is attached to the め "me"
that say's 美人のおまけ , "bijin no Omake", "The beautiful women's exaggerationl"

Are they refering to Anna or Riri ?

This is a really funny series... It's not very popular, but I'm enjoying it immensely. :lol

Noticed that, too... Well, the 美人 is obviously Anna... (They start off every episode by calling her 才色兼備). So I think 美人のおまけ refers to Riri -- in other words, Anna seems like the perfect girl, but she's got some extra baggage (Riri). おまけ here I think means something free or extra (e.g., you buy something and they give you a free prize).

Ohh I see, that makes sence now. Thank you, I was wondering about that for a while

So its like a two for one, You get Anna, and Riri the free prize,

Well to kyotaro not so much a prize. Thank you quashlo

Are you asking if i'm going to upload revised subs?
If yes I'm not.Like I said I've been studying jp for 1.5 years so no a 5% of every episode I won't be able to understand.
If you or anyone else can , I wouldn't mind if you uploaded a revised one.

btw Haruko are you Greek?
I'm Greek too :P

I had never imagined that a Greek person was into making subtitles for Japanese dramas. I'm glad!
You have been studying Japanese for just 1.5 year and you are able to understand the language so well as to make subtitles? That's great! Μήπως κατά τύχη έχεις γονιό Ιάπωνα;

I'm learning Japanese too, but I have not reached that level where I can understand everything...let alone make subtitles...

Μπράβο για την προσπάθειά σου!!!

Yay.... Subs for ep. 5 are out.. XD
Mitai naaaaa~

Just a note... ^^ The song Riri is singin n the contest is the opening song of Cutey Honey Flash (Anime)... Therefore it's not "Riri, fell" but "Riri, flash" XD Like in the original song... XD (Just because I always liked the opening song... :P )
Just an unimportant note... Still I had to say it... hahaha...

Great work of yours... Keep it on and make the fans happy... :lol

Hah , thank you for the information.I wasn't sure about that :P
I'll use it as a note in the first page if you dont mind.

PS: lol such a coincidence. Like 2 mins after I edited the post I heard the song in the radio rofl. It's song by Koda Kumi by the way.

Thanks ZeeSeeS for the subs of this hilarious drama.

I couldn't help but correct the spelling and grammatical mistakes. So I made a revised version for my own sake. But since I finished them and read in the post that ZeeSeeS was okay with uploading a revised version, I thought I'd share them with you guys.

I also re-translated some of the mis-interpreted dialogues, and I added few missing translations. I have to say, not to be mean to the original translator, but the mis-interpretations were pretty off to what is actually being said. So I made major corrections in dialogues. I noticed that the mis-interpretations are at times when the characters are either talking too fast or mumbling.

Minor corrected words...

In episode 1,
instead of Asama, it's Hazama.

In episode 2,
instead of Yoshida, it's Yoshino. I checked the official website.
Matsure Faito no Shonshun Hen is Matsure Fight, the Final Match
Tamago Booro should be Tamago Boro; a type of Japanese biscuit

NOTE: I re-timed the subs so it is sync with my videos files, which can be found at clubbox.co.kr/kangjeju

NOTE: I once again made revisions on my revised version of Ep. 2. This is my final version. I only changed one line of dialogue, the part where Anna and Kyotaro are having red wine. So you can delete the old revision and dl this new version.

UPDATE: I changed the timing back to the timing of the originals subs. So for those who dl this drama from D-addicts, well these subs will sync to them. Guarantee. But make sure you DL the one that has description "sync to file from D-addicts"

I finally finished revising Episode 3. I'll start on 4 soon. ENJOY
