No, thank you kidmigz, you did most of the work. I'll be happy to chip in for episode 2 onwards too 8)

I didn't have high hopes for this drama when I started watching it, but it has a certain charm. For one, Matsu Takako's outwardly happy-go-lucky character with a dark side - how she spins these wildly tragic stories about strangers to comfort herself at her loneliness and her ordinary and not-that-successful life. Like Sakurako says in episode 2 after Hitomi shares one of those stories, kono hito no koto suki kamo. itteru koto hen dakedo. "I like her, although she says weird things."

(Speaking of wildly tragic stories - if you like that sort of thing, the entire drama Kiraware Matsuko is like that!)

For another, the budding romance between the accountant and the tarento. Kato Rosa stands out much more in this drama than in Dance Drill, or at least the few episodes I watched of that.

I'm very happy that kidmigz used the original Shakespeare to sub the Richard III scenes - it'll be a waste of the unique privilege of English subs if you didn't. You really get the sense of how slooowww Honnoji Kaizo's Act 1 Scene 1 was. It seems kidmigz was really familiar with the play and with Shakespeare too.

Thank you so much kidmigz.

And special thanks to lzydata for helping out.

I'm a Matsu nut, and a live theater loon... so this series was something I was really looking forward to.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you're subbing this show.

Just a progress update: Episode 2 is in the works, but I've been recently sidetracked by a few other things (including the awesome drama Iryu, heh). I should be done with my incomplete version within the next few days.

Thanks alot alot to kidmigz & Izydata for subbing this drama!! I loved the sub! You guys did a great job! So complete, and you subbed all the little details too!

I just made the ASS format of the soft subtitle. It's a SOFT subtitle, but the quality is almost the same with hard-subs, like on these screencaps.

Image

I'd just like to share this to everyone. I've deleted the un-translated lines(there are 10 of 'em), which are still in Korean characters. And I've also inserted Izydata's name to the credits, as one of the translators.

kidmigz, if you approve this ASS format of the subtitle, please put it up on your first post ne^^ But you better check the whole file first, I'm worried that I made minor changes that you dislike x) And if you like it, I'll be glad to join the team and help making the ASS format for the rest of the episode's subtitles!!^^

Oh, and to everyone, please check for me, whether or not the fonts mis-positioned/different than the caps above. Coz, I use a different video file to make it.

ASS SoftSub User Guide

ASS format subtitles works with Windows-user ONLY.

Download DirectVobSub 2.23 + VSFilter 2.37: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/ ... id=0&did=2

2. Download .ASS subtitle file to THE SAME FOLDER as the .AVI video files.

3. Make sure the subtitle file and the video file has the same name.
(Leave the extention alone: ________.ass, ________.avi)

4. Use your player (Windows media player, WinDVD and other) to view the ASS softsubs.

You can choose to download the fonts: Century Gothic, Gili Sans MT, Goudy Stout, Kristen ITC, OCR A Extended and Pristina if you don't have it already. Unzip the Yakusha Fonts file, then copy-paste into Control Panel/Fonts/

I suppose I might be able to squeeze a bit more out of the remaining untranslated lines in Ep 2, but I've already approximated several lines that I couldn't hear 100%, and I'd rather not risk making too big of a mistake on the rest of the lines. Anyway, I've decided to put this out there, again in hopes that someone else can go over it and patch it, but at least you can understand most of it with this version!

Some notes:

- Hitomi has a phrase here, "jinsei wa butai no you na mono da," which I've translated as "Life is like a stage." A more appropriate translation might be Shakespeare's famous quote, "All the world's a stage." I deviated a bit since I've generally seen that quote translated as "jinsei wa butai de ari," but it's very possible the scriptwriter intended to use the Shakespeare quote.

- When they're discussing the issue of Honnoji using simplified language, Mamoru suggests a line, "ore wa hikikomori kara dasshutsu shite, ore no kazoku wa damacchai nai ze." I don't really know Richard III all that well, so I'm not quite sure which line in the play that was meant to replace.

- At the part where Antonio first chimes in about Honnoji's performance, Honnoji asks him a question related to food. I'm no food expert, so I don't have a clue what they're actually talking about (and it appears to be some Italian term, too).

Anyway, I hope these subs give you a good enough understanding of the episode. I'll get to work on Ep 3, though I don't have timings for it yet.

I thought it was great that you were given this series a try.
I decided it was about time I gave something back to this
community, instead of leeching all the time, so i started on ep 4

I'm 100% done on the timing, thanks to tianj
and 75% translated.......<---my japanese isn't all that good so some of the lines may
need to be retranslated.

Just let me know if you want what i got so far maybe you can translate some more
and have someone else finish it up like ep 1.

oh and if ya already started on ep 4, no worries, I just doin this for fun to pratice
my japanese.

The CD goes on sale 11/29, I think... So unless someone has a radio rip or something, I think you'll have to wait about two weeks.

Just to update everyone: this project is still active, but these last couple weeks have been busy. I should have more time after this week.

Also, a torrent for the "Minna Hitori" single was posted on tokyotosho (posted by JPSEEK), for anyone who wants it. It comes with two other tracks, "Shiawase no jumon" and "now and then," as well as the instrumental for "Minna Hitori." (Personally, I like "Shiawase no jumon" better than "now and then.")

That's the nice thing about downloading a show and putting it on a disc. There's no expiration date.

Whenever you can put up the subs for an episode or two. I'll be here to gobble them up. But as far as I know-- there's no deadline.

If folks are desperate to have the subs RIGHT NOW!!! then it figures it's worth waiting for.

Well, I figured I'm not likely to make any more significant progress on episode 3, so I decided to post what I had. There are more missing lines in this episode, but that's also because there's simply more dialogue than in the previous episodes (900+ lines compared to only 600+ for eps 1 and 2). I'm still hoping someone else (maybe lzydata?) will take another crack at these.

One note about the episode: When Honnoji-sensei goes to the TV studio for the variety show, the director uses the word "saku-saku" to describe the style of the show. "saku-saku" is a word referring to the crunchy sound of certain types of crackers and other foods. Here, it seems to mean something close to "noisy," but I can't really figure out a better way to describe it in English.

Anyway, let me know if there are any problems with Episode 3 that I can fix.

Thanks seaweed! I made some minor edits and merged the doubled lines (and also added you to the credits) - the new version has been updated in the first post.

Now there's only line 418 and a couple lines in the next episode preview that are missing.

It's no problem :)

Sigh, I have to say that the show has really disappointed me. From episode 5 or so it started going off the tracks. But Yakusha is still probably the hardest drama this season to sub, because of its many and complicated lines, so I'll still help out in future subbing if I can.
People's characters seem to change every episode - for instance, what the heck was the Mamoru crush on Hitomi about?! and the Shakespeare analogies introduced only to be discarded. E.g. King Lear.
Yes, this drama does grow on you and almost become part of the family. I wouldn't mind continuing the tranlation, but don't want to do the timing, anyone still interested?

BTW, does anyone have the final ep, #11? I've been trying to download it for the last couple of weeks or so but stuck at 24%.

Timing ... hmmm... is there an faq on how to time? what software to use? I'd help. I really wanna finish watching the show.

Timing's not a problem - tianj already provided the timed files for the whole series. It's just the translating that needs to be done.

OOh wow, well, this is exciting now. I hope you have no trouble translating the series sfsjkid.

I know I'm the only one excited but man have I wanted for someone to translate it for months!

Ohhhps, I wasn't subscribed nor had notifications on.

I'll do the best I can this will be my first attempt for any drama. In fact I'm new to the p2p scene so your patience will be appreciated :thumright:

I've been playing around with various ways to get this done, and finally decided on Subtitle Workshop. I should have learned by now but I just don't like reading directions, so the timing part of it is still something to be learned and driving me up the wall. My solution for the moment is to just put in the translation. This may not be the forum to ask but is this going to cause problems in the long run?

Aah so the episodes are not all timed ...

This is most unfortunate ...

It's all timed - tianj emailed me the scripts rather than posting them here. I've sent them to sfsjkid now.

You're welcome.

I really wish I could've continued, but other things have taken over my time. I'm just happy someone else is willing to finish the project, since I do think this is a good series that has been largely overlooked.

Well, I liked the series too, and that is part of the motivation.

I got the timed scripts in my email this morning and got to say they are a lifesaver! I've done a quarter of the fourth episode which took about an hour, but spent about 3~4 hours, if not more going back to time the stuff (and generally pulling my hairs out);). Kidmigz had a few lines translated in ep4 so I learned somethings about line lengths too.

So thanks Kidmigz and Tianj, wish me luck!

Here's a rough draft of the translations for episode 4. I'm sure it needs editing, proofreading and timing fixes, but right now I need to distance myself from this for a time before I go back.

Many thanks to tianj who did the timings, which I found takes much, much more time than the actual translating for me, and to kidmigz who provided them to me and did some of the translations on this episode.

Thanks for changing the thread title Kidmidgz!

Here are episodes 5 & 6 with the same caveats as before. I think I may get another out by the end of the month, but the pace will probably slow throughout the holidays

Enjoy!
