Alright, I haven't seen anyone else doing this, & between waiting to get scripts back, I did ep 1 since it's fun.

Its a 1992 comedy drama.

Synopsis
One day, when Azusa (girl) and Kouhei (boy) were running in opposite directions, something happened and in the next moment, their bodies have been exchanged. Azusa has to live as Kouhei and Kouhei has to live as Azusa. They don't know how long they have to wait to get their own bodies...

heh heh heh
It would be interesting if the Azusa's soul will have problems and ban Kouhei's soul in an Azusa body from bathing and the like. Huahuahuahau! Wouldn't it?
I havent watch yet. Just anticipating at the moment. Torrent downloading now.

It's really rare, that I post (normally I'm just a silent reader), but thank you very much for this. I like the simple but not really new plot. But even if this "body switching" main plot may be old, it sounds definetly interesting in this variation. So, thank you very much again, I really hope, you'll keep going. Image

I know it's been over a month. I said I couldn't promise more, but I'm waiting on final batch for my other project, so it freeded up some time for this. And besides, this is a fun and nicely done show so I enjoy working on it. It's lighthearted, doesn't go overboard in goofyness or melodrama. Nice balance. Enjoy! I noticed the source I was working with seems to have an audio sync problem, but oh well.

Thanks alot, alot, Taro!! For Ep2! I love this drama...and I'll pray, hopefully you have more free time to do the last 3 episodes! hehe...

Takeda Shinji and Shinohara Ryoko apparently are in this drama, huh? They got small roles^^ Takeda Shinji play the role of the dork, Azusa has a crush on. Boy, he actually looked like a dork here!
And Shinohara Ryoko, have even smaller role... xD As Azusa's classmate, she sit in the front of Azusa. And in the first episode, she called to Azusa, in the opening school scene^^

Problem with Ep 3?

Postby bakaman » Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:08 am

First of all, THANKS so much for doing this series, I've really enjoyed it so far, and look forward to the last half!

Question to everyone out there: is it just me, or does the RAW to Ep 3 have a glitch from 03:10 -> 03:20? (basically right before, and during the opening title "LESSON 3").

I just want to know if it's there in the original RAW file that everyone has (that I got via Bit Torrent from the torrent here at D-Addicts) or not. If no one else has such a 10-second area where the sound and picture go all weird (from 03min 10sec to 3min 20sec) and it's just me, I'll re-download it, but as it takes a while, and I suspect it's there on everyone's Raw for Ep. 3.

Thanks!

(The reason I'm asking is because the glitch in this episode is causing all the programs I use to deal with video not to want to load or work with this episode. I can view it with Windows Media Player -- with lots of crackles and pops during those 10 seconds -- but anything else refuses to load it. I like to make homemade DVDs of the Jdramas to watch on my large TV instead of my terrible computer monitor -- and no, I'm not one of the scum selling the stuff on ebay, it's just for me because I have a great TV and a crappy monitor and I like to keep Jdrama on watchable DVDs for the future. Everything I'd normally use won't load this episode except VirtualDubMod, but errors out at that very spot. Other programs from TMPEGE to AVIDEMUX and anything else refuse to play it)....

Yay! Thank you so much for subbing ep 3! Awesome! :D :D

As for the video quality, I was the one who uploaded the raws, and I am afraid that was the best I could do for episode 3. My source is this set of VCDs that all appear to be corrupted somehow. Trying to get episode 3 off of it was nearly impossible @_@ That was the best I could manage ;_; My copy has those glitches too. Hopefully someone else can come up with a better copy *_*

Emi801,
No, don't apologize... thanks so much for getting the RAWs in the first place! I did find a work-around (tedious, but it works.. if anyone's interested read below).

But thanks Emi801 and Taro for bringing it to us! :)

(my workaround: I loaded the MPEG2 stream into VirtualDubMod. There's a setting in VirtualDubMod where you can have it "skip past" mistakes (otherwise it stops at the error and doesn't go on). This "works" but it causes an audio sync problem after the glitch area for the rest of the episode (which is almost the entire episode). But I was still able to save it using VirtualDubMod as an AVI file, and then used "AVIDEMUX" (freeware) to load and fool around with it (AVIDEMUX will normally load MPEG2 files, but won't load episode 3 because of the glitch... I had to "wash it" through VirtualDubMod first, then save it as AVI, and THEN AVIDEMUX would load it OK). Now AVIDEMUX has an "audio shift" command, so what I did was, split the file into two parts. The first 3 mins or so (where the sync is good) was one part, where I didn't change the sync. But from about 3:20 on, I used the "audio shift" command in AVIDEMUX to get the sound synced up right. The correct number (on my system anyway) was (positive) 350. By doing that, then the sound came out right. So then I just later joined the two AVI files together. It's a bit cumbersome I know, but I hate audio sync problems. ANyway, this is long and boring, but thought I'd just post in case anyone else wanted to "fix" it. Of course if you just use WindowsMediaPlayer it plays past the glitch and you don't have audio sync problems, but just about any other program (where you can control or render it) has it, so this was my solution. But thanks everyone, for taking on this project.. it's a great little "mini drama!"

OST?

Postby bakaman » Thu Dec 14, 2006 5:35 pm

This is probably never going to happen because the series is so old, but... does anyone have the OST they could upload? I kind of like it... it's the most Hollywood of any Jdrama I've seen, but it fits really well (along with the Back to the Future fonts at the end). There's some really good tracks on the show...

Ending and Various...

Postby bakaman » Tue Dec 26, 2006 3:42 am

Yes, definitely Back to the Future inspired -- even down to the dance.
Just a few quick comments -- and asking for YOUR ideas/comments on how it ended!

(1) Couldn't fix the audio-sync problems in Episode #2 the way I could in Ep #3 (because in Ep #3 a glitch causes it, but it's steady. In Episode #2 -- at least my copy of the raw -- it progressively gets more out of sync as the episode goes on). Oh well, as you said, the source wasn't the greatest.. certainly better this than never having a chance to see the show!

(2) Noticed at the very end creidts (shown in the final episode) the music is listed as "T-Square" (in Japanese), and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (that's why it sounds like such a big orchestra.. they actually spent the money for a full-size orchestra), but wondering who T-Square is.

(3) Dig those pants. Guy's plaid pants? Hmm...

(4) In case anyone was wondering, the main theme of Houkago is either a rip-off or homage (or certainly mighty close to) the "Stary Sky" theme used in Steve Martin's 1986 movie "Roxanne." There are of course other music cues that pay homage to everything from Back to the Future to 1950s Hollywood romance (one of the cues)...

(5) THE VERY END: Aah! Love it! Just as with "Back to the Future" ("Marty! Something's got to be done about your kids!") they end it like this! :) I'd be real interested to hear anyone's comments on what they think of that last black & white photo -- what's going on in it -- what that "other occurance" is they talk about. Too bad (as far as I know?) there was never a sequel made for Houkago :)

(6) Wow... 1992? This is 15 years old now. But still loads of fun. THANKS so much for bringing this to us!

I watched all 5 episodes on Christmas day! It's a great show, so THANK you soooooooo much for subbing it, taro!

As far as that last black and white photo of them, I REALLY wish there HAD been a sequel! It looked like a funny incident, like they were in disguise or something. ^^

Oh, bummers, I jumped back on to seed it.
Everyone's welcome, I had fun with this show, it was one I enjoyed watching repeatedly, which you have to to do a fansub. I still crack a smile everytime the funny bits come by. It was pretty much all predictable, and yet enjoyable. The cast did a good job. I found it kinda amusing that at the end I almost found their acting strange and unrealistic. I suppose throughtout the rest, their acting was actually a bit over emphasizing the swap, but I came to treat that as the norm so at the end, things seemed weird.
As for what happens after, there really is not enough to make much of a guess. 5 years would make it prob just out of college. Looks like in the pic they're attending some formal function. Hollywood?

What an awesome individual work, Taro!! I think there was only, like, 1% of typos!^^ Otsukaresama deshitaaa~~~!!!

How I wish there's a sequel for this. Well...actually, Ishida Issei and Mizuki Arisa has acted together once again in 1998, a dorama titled Boy Hunt. Can we consider that as a sequel? :D

15 years has passed...it should be interesting to make a sequel in 2007. Kohei and Azusa coincidentally meet again, and accidentally switch their souls again. As adults, they'll encounter another different problems, ne?^^
