Acknowledgments: Many, many thanks to ap for uploading the raw, sn0tcat on LJ for going so far as to burning the entire series on cd-r and sending them all to me so I could have the raws, and of course tianj for providing the timings that were indispensable. The adorable pixel art buttons are from LOVE v MANHATTAN Union

Culture Notes
Episode A
-We left all the Japanese prefixes because we thought it adds an extra little touch of character development.
-Notice several cameos of actors who played main characters in Kudokan's other dramas (Kisarazu Cat's Eye, Ikebukuro West Gate Park, etc) and notice the cameo of Shigeru Joshima, the leader of TOKIO (Matsuoka's band).
-"2 Hour Drama Special" - A one time drama special usually is a much more low budget than a full fledged drama, hence, Chikura's outrage.

Episode B
-The prefix "-yan" is a cutesy, nickname-ish type of prefix.
-We translated 'announcer' as 'anchorwoman' but I just wanted to clarify that an announcer in Japanese TV is something there really isn't an equivalent of in the US because many shows require a sort of narrator and that is what announcers do.
-Onsen town: An onsen is a hot spring and they are usually found in the countryside, therefore an onsen town would be a rural little town.
-Music: I love 80s jpop and this show is filled with it. Besshie dances to Judy Ongg's "Miserarete" (A Taiwanese crossover in the same vein as Agnes Chan. Does anyone have this mp3?) Shinobu rocks out to X-Japan's "X" (80s japanese hair metal breakthrough band) and Akabane's favorite song is Seiko Matsuda's "Akai Sweet Pea" (I would probably compare her to Madonna? Immensely popular in the 80s, broke many hearts and is now featured on gay interest magazines.)

Episode C
-The owner refers to two weddings in this episode. The first is a sumo wrester's, so I decided to keep it as is, but the second is a comedian, but I decided to replace it with an American celebrity wedding circa 1995 to make things easier.

If you want the ending theme song, I uploaded it and roler and I translated the lyrics HERE

Awesome! I was working on subbing this at some point, but never got around to finishing it.

I've really enjoyed watching it so far, but I haven't been able to get episode 6 and on due to lack of seeders.

Some trivia: the songs that Akabane-san sings in this episode are Hirota Mieko's "Ningyou no Ie" and Matsuda Seiko's "Akai Sweet Pea."

Oh, I forgot to add the notes about the songs they sing, thanks! :-) Besshie dances to Judy Ong's Miserarete, but I couldn't recognize for the life of me what Chikura is singing in that karaoke fantasy bit.

I would, but I don't think she has an account here? Maybe I'll add her livejournal account then.

Hello!
This is Laura! I just made an account here. We're still working hard on subbing the rest of the series for you; I hope you like it! A lot of the dialogue is really heavily laden with cultural references so just a few lines aren't literal translations but should get the idea across. Kudokan is BRILLIANT with dialogue but that just makes it ten times harder to make into comprehensible English. Still, it's my favorite drama ever so I'm quite enjoying this! Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks so much for the Ep. 1 subs...it's only the first episode, and I'm really excited about it. Excellent job with the subs, they look really good! I can't say anything about the translation because I don't know Japanese, but everything else is great.

Episode B done! Episode C is translated but I have to put all the lines into the timings, which takes longer than translating it :x

EDIT: Sorry about the timing error, I've fixed it now.

I don't know if it's just me but when I open the file, it gives me error saying "erron on line 2825" and then the file would play but not with the subs for ep.b

But still thank you guys for taking the time to sub this!!!

I'd just like to thank Alyssa again for putting all the lines into the timings in addition to her share of the translation... I love working with the words and searching for natural and humorous ways to put Kudo's lines into English, but the technical part is seriously beyond me. So yeah, yay for her! Thanks!

I'm also getting a weird error when I try to play Ep. 2 with the subs...it tells me that there's a syntax error on line something or other and then doesn't play the subs. I've never seen this before...is there any way to correct it?

there's a line without timings
695
But...it's like...

you can put some in, something like
695
00:26:56,536 --> 00:26:57,936
But...it's like...

Finally! Episode C is done! Laura had the text translated a long time ago, but I finally found enough time to put it into the timings and QC it.

You guys'll have to wait until after 12/20 for Episode D because finals are coming up :'(

Wow, someone's finally subbing this?! I actually bought the R2 DVD set over two years ago, but I've never watched past episode 1 because of the lack of subs. I tried subbing it myself but it took too long because everyone talks too fast!

So thank you so much for subbing it!

It's good to know you've not abandoned this, and there's no rush, since there obviously are more important things than this. Just many thanks for taking up this project in the first place, and I'll be waiting patiently for continuation. Good luck with your college work!

seeing the first page i was also worried the project might be abandoned, but the last posts gave me.. hoope ;D i hope you will continue some time soon, i'm always really grateful to all you subtitlers! it would be too much of a pity if i had to watch the remaining episodes withouth subtitles and only grasp like half of the content (excluding all more.. hmm eloquent or abstract dialogues *cough*)

Hello,

I am new to all of this but I would like to download this drama. I am using Bit torrent but it comes up with "invalid" comment. Do I need to download another type of software to download this drama?

Can you please help me. I have read all the tutorial but some of it is a little over my head!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your excellent efforts. Now if only I could understand how to download it - it would make my day.

Cheers
Addie

well, this isn't really the place to ask for torrent help. there is a whole section of the forum thats specifically for those types of questions.

that being said, the srt downloads in this thread are not torrent files. you can search for the torrent files in the torrent section (button located at the top of the page)

Hi

Thanks for your kind suggestion but I have read all through the Torrent tutorial and it only refers to torrent files etc. It doesn't explain any other softwares that people are using to download.

I still couldn't find my answer so I suppose I since you appear to be a little upset in me asking you the question and instead of just giving me a simple and quick answer - like the link to go to - to help me out. I think that I better go without.

Thanks anyway.......I will see if I can find the answer elsewhere. If you go through all this effort to subtitle why not help those of us that are not really all that good in computer useage. I don't get it at all???

But thanks for your efforts anyway. Maybe one day I will be able to work out how to download your work.

Cheers
Addie

i'm sorry if you think i was upset in anyway because i'm not. i'm dead serious that there is a whole big section of this forum that is specifically for tech support to help people who are having trouble. there is no simple quick answer to figure out exactly what your problem is and how to fix it. this is just not the appropriate place for tech support help.

wow bga you have the patience of a saint.

Addie there is no need for an attitude. She was trying to help you. Why is it a fansubber's responsibility to take every incompetent person's hand and walk them through watching dramas? It's already been explained very clearly in the FAQ, it's not bga's fault that you can't comprehend what is written in plain English.

Your problem is you think a torrent and an srt are the same thing. Try reading the FAQ again, it will explain the difference.

Hey Guys Chill out.........

I have printed out the Torrents section in FAQ and have read it all. I understand english perfectly well. I am also currently downloading other series from this site having followed the instructions from this section. No problems here at all! I just couldn't locate the section that explains your type of torrent extension.

Life is way too short for all of this stuff. This has nothing to do with patience but more a case of good manners.

Sorry to have asked the question in the first place. :salut:

your type of torrent extension.

The files downloadable in this thread are not torrent files. They are subtitle files. They contain only the subtitles, they won't help you in anyway to download anything else. You can open them in notepad and see lines of text.

If you want the torrent files, you click the button up there that says torrent and search there.

Please get along people. There's no need to comment on people's English competency here. =T Everyone was once a noob before. :)
Addie: Please post your comments/questions in the tech area instead of this thread.

Any updates that there are still plans to complete this project? Just a quick "not abandoned" or cry for help will do..... I am not very skilled but I can pool some resources and help somehow, and I am sure there are others willing to help out there in cyberland....anyone?

I'd be willing to work on this. I am not very good with encoding and timing subtitles but I do know how to do it. If somebody can provide the translation for the series, it might take me a few weeks but I would like to finish this since, the story seems really interesting. Any takers? PM me.
