Sukeban Deka [Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby taro » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:07 am

OK, I couldn't contain myself and had to do this. For the most part it's pretty clean. Only a couple missed lines and they aren't critical. Please enjoy! Saki's Yo-yo of justice rules all! I can't promise all the rest, I'll try my best, but I need to finish Shimokita Glory Days.

Thank you very much. I never imagined that someone would make subs for an 80s series.

Dude, this is such a cult classic that I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. If I wasn't so tight ono budget, I would have had the DVDs and possibly made scripts by now. I bought the US release movie (which I have also the original VHS) but it pales in comparison to this TV series. In fact, I could only recommend the movie to those who are fans already. I was scared that the dialect would be too strong for me to understand, but this first series is not. It sounds like the later series has stronger sukeban speak though. Anyway, enjoy!

I should make one correction, there is one critical scene that I'm not entirely certain on and would like a fluent speaker to check my interpretation. It's Saki's soliloquy just before she rains justice down upon the baddies. It is quite important and is repeated throughout, so I'd like to be sure of it.
And thanks for the encouragement. I love this show so I plan to keep with it as best I can.

LOL, but that's part of the appeal too. The 80's melodramatic BG music is just too classic. And Saki's theme. I find myself just waiting to hear that and see Saki pull on the gloves. You're like, oh yeah, Saki's going to lay down some justice now! It's seems a bit (maybe more than just a bit) corny to a lot of people, but thats why we love it so! & everyone in "The Organization" is just too cool. Saki of course, Mr. Tall Jin, and the 'Dark Director'. Gotta love it. The more I watch of this 1st series, the more I appreciate it. Kinda makes me wonder, with some apprehension, how the new movie is going to be.

oh yes...the music is totally 80s ^_^ it reminds me of when i watch old macgyver episodes...the music is like a whole extra person in the room ^_^

i do enjoy the music to a certain extent...i just can't watch a bunch of the episodes in a row or i am forever hearing it in my head ^_^

i'm scared to death of the new movie...i don't care much for the girl that they cast...but i'll watch it anyway ^_^ somehow, if the acting is bad...its just that much funnier!

Hey hey, I'm still at it. Decided to post up next script. Wanted some t/l assistance, but it was simple enough so just went ahead and posted it.
As for the movie, yeah I dunno. There was the Cutey Honey movie where the intentional camp factor and bad acting worked, but sometimes it won't. This original is not intentionaly campy, and thats why I love it.

This is an amazing series. I'm a big fan of both Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and the female yakuza films of the 1970s, and this bridges the two beautifully. Please continue subbing!

Ah the wonderful goodness of Sukeban Deka. Too bad interest seems pretty low for this classic. Anyway, the episodic stuff is done, and this is where I caught up with my backlog of completed scripts. So now just as it's gotten to the meaty part of the series, the releases are going to slow down, gwah! Sorry!

odd question

Postby kitamurafan » Tue Apr 01, 2008 11:27 am

I have a really weird question but this seems like one of the best places to ask. One time on a site I saw a clip from Sukeban Deka showing Saki (I think) breaking a tree in half, throwing a boy and crushing an apple. I was wondering if anyone would happen to know what season they were from or if they were from the movies. I know for a fact they were from Sukeban Deka and I'd like to download whatever episodes they were from but since i don't know what season... I don't need exact episodes, I'll just download whatever season they are in. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: odd question

Postby taro » Wed Apr 02, 2008 2:54 am

I can tell you I'm pretty sure thats not the 1st season. I can't recall anything like that in the movies I've seen either. Maybe look on the net for images of the girl(s) from each season and narrow down your search with thath?
The 1st season subs are on the backburner for me, I hope to resume sometime soon. Honestly, if you're going to watch, I think you should watch the 1st season because its the original that started it. I haven't watched all of the second yet, it does get more over the top than the 1st. The kung Fu dance had me giggling.

Thanks for the info. The two screencaps I found are really small and useless and the site which had the clips seems to have disappeared. I'll get the 2nd season and probably the rest eventually. I saw the new movie with Matsuura Aya and love it. Thanks again for the quick reply.

I think it sucks that your hard work isn't appreciated for this show, this show, and your subtitles are watched and enjoyed by a lot of people I know and we all can't wait to see if Saki is able to take down the new girl gang with a bullet in her shoulder! We're counting on you! Bring back saki's growling yo yo of justice! Bring back SUKEBAN DEKA!

Exactly
I have several friends who do not write in this forum. So they, like me, are very waiting subtitle for Sukeban Deka.
Before I have found this thread, we hadn't hoped to see this old TV series.
Seemed lack of interest is likely due to very little information about Japanese serials released earlier then 90s!
And the existence of a subtitle may raise interest to these serials!

I've posted the first episode with subs on crunchyroll to try and drum up some interest. I hop e to upload the rest soon, and include a link to this forum.

Love this franchise (so far have seen about half of season 1 and the recent movie with Ayaya) so.... any news relating to subtitles for the rest of the season is very good.
And random question for anybody to answer:
Are the first two SD movies any good cuz I'm thinking about ordering the DVD that comes with the first 2 for only $20 off of deep discount.... then again I guess I shouldn't need to ask, I'll probably like them even if there bad (but can they be? the first one as Ibu Masato in it right?)

Anyways someone.... please sub the rest of season 1!!!!

the older movies do not have all the fancy stuff that is in the new one, but I thought they were entertaining. If you like the tv series, you will like the old movies.

I only knew the OAV, I never knew about the movies until I saw what is actually the 3rd (what the???) so I have been surfing the net for anything else (try to catch up) since I really don't know Japanese very well...yet, your subs are a blessing, thank you a million for them , hope you keep it up, although I know it must have been a lot of work, be assured your job has been valuable beyond words!!!!

Just finished watching the last episode of this season (#24) last night. My god, didn't expect what happened at the end :goggle: .
I guess I can't say much more without risking spoilers though but.... the ending is surprising.
Gonna start season 2 today!!!!

Oh and also got the first two movies in the mail earlier this week (ordered them in a pack for $15 off of Deep Discout, great deal!). Both were very good although because one happens after season 2 and the other after 3 it feels like I missed quite a bit (Why can't the series be released here on DVD also for anyone watching the movies on DVD and wants to watch the series but doesn't have a good enough connection to download it.... I think it'd sell at least decent).

Holy yo-yo's, Saki! I forgotten I had left the series off on a cliffhanger! Let's see if I can finish this!
Although it'd be great to see a DVD set released here for it, it'll never happen. It's extremely rare to see any US company take on and risk doing a full live action series. Until then, I'll do my best!

Alright awesome!!!!
More subs! Thank you!!!
Looks like I'm gonna be going back to season 1 for a while to clear up the stuff I didn't understand w/out subs!

Any chance of moving onto subbing series 2 after getting through these??? (though I guess that would be QUITE a challenge, 42 eps is a lot)

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, LOL!
Not to mention the sukeban dialect. 1st season the language was quite straightforward.

Uh oh, looks like I'm hitting some language that I can't quite make out and is beyond my first grade vocabulry. I'll do my best but I might have to guess a little and fudge things. People are more than welcome to tell me if I mess something up and to correct me!

Plugging along and doing my best, hope I do justice to Saki! And yes, I hope more people see this and realize where a lot of current stuff was influenced by!

It is considered a cult classic. It may seem a little dated since its from the eighties. For fans of Japanese pop culture it should be a history must see. It was popular enough to have had a movie remake just recently. If you like tokusatsu too, you'll prob like this. If you're looking for heavy drama or romance stuff, this isn't it.

Hey, appreciate the subs for this show taro-san!

Hamowangsta, I'd say it's a must see but it depends very much on taste... I'm just about to watch the movie which a mate got on dvd and I came here to get some of the real original hard-core classic **** to show him...

I'm sure the yo-yo combat and general shinyness of the movie will outdo the 80s version in some (superficial) aspects, but for me discovering this was a little bit like being a kid and suddenly realizing that Goldorak, Battle of the Planets and Ulysses were all Japanese....

Such a cool show, keep up the great work taro!

PS, taro, is it true there will be a hardsub based on your translation?

peace

Sukeban Deka series hardsubs

Postby zeldAIS » Mon Nov 24, 2008 2:45 am

that's right XrayZ-dono ^_^

taro-sama was kind enough for us to use the softsubs posted here for us, Skewed Studios, to use for hardsubbing. currently just waiting for the DVD raws to arrive and have to finish up the karaoke to be used in the series :3

in behalf of Skewed Studios, i deeply and humbly thank you taro-sama *bows very deeply*

PS: I remember watching the 2nd and 3rd series when i was a kid :P that's why i'm really spoiled to the 2nd series more XD

Excellent news!

Just discovered Skewed's sub of GeGeGe no Kitaro, which will help keep us entertained in the meantime (my daughter and I are both looking forward to the Negima live too!)...

However I'm hardly stuck for entertainment since I'm still only up to ep 11 of the 1st series...

Thanks again Taro-sama, and I look forward immensely to your hardsubs zeldAIS and co!

PEACE

Whoops, sorry for the long delay. Had the script mostly done a while ago, but things like computer problems and trips and holidays and stuff. Being sent to Seattle for a little work and play so not sure how quick next one will be.
I love how sincere this series is. The movies start to play on the cheesy bits, but the 1st series is done completely straight. The second series (actually have to finish watching it over) does go more over the top, but is still played pretty straight.

I just wanted to thank taro for his hard work. I bought the dvd set just recently and I didn't know subs existed, so you can imagine how happy I was to discover these scrips. I have now watched the first 10 episodes and I'm absolutely loving it.

Thank you taro.

I would suggest trying to contact them so you can get the series done together.

(I tried going to their forums but their forum registration seems broken.)
